Last night was crazy. Woke up around 11pm to what sounded like rocks being thrown at every window in the house. Best I could describe it is what it would sound like if you threw golf balls at those tin patio roofs. Lightning, loud thunder and strong winds. The whole family woke up, 3-year-old who is a heavy sleeper screaming. Quarter-sized hail. It has hailed at my house before, but this stuff was coming down hard. The hail/heavy rain went on for like 15-20 minutes. Never in my life been in a storm that loud in Tucson.

Talked to several friends who don't live too far away, all they got was the thunder and heavy rain.

We had hail the other day in Phx as well, some golf ball size. My 15 year old son thought it would be fun to run around in it untill he almost got knocked the fuck out.

Anyone know whether this hurricane bearing down on Mexico is going to have any impact on Tucson?

Don't think so. It's too far south and is turning northeast. Eventually heading towards south Texas.

Hurricane Patricia will make landfall about 5 pm today. atm it has a sustained wind of 205 mph, making it the strongest hurricane in history for the Western Hemisphere. The wind will slow to 150 mph when the t hits land. Texas, especially around Dallas and Houston, are expected to get hit with about a foot of rain. That area already is experiencing massive flooding. This hurricane is serious.

Patricia went from a TS to a Cat 5 in 24 hours. It's like she walked in our husband with an 18 year old.

Hurricane hunters are finding unreal barometric readings. The readings aren't confirmed yet, but currently 891mb, which beats the previous record of Linda 1997 at 902mb.

For comparison-
Strongest Atlantic storm on record, Wilma 882mb.
Strongest western Pacific storm on record, Typhoon Tip 870mb. (also strongest storm anywhere)

Some addl intensification may occur and Patricia could flirt with breaking Wilma's record.

200+ MPH winds with a 30 mile diameter will kill a lot of people.

I'm already practically in tears thinking about the damage to Puerto Vallarta. Truly one of my favorite places on the face of this planet. Not to mention the incredibly warm and open people of that town.

I'm not a praying man, but I truly do hope that everyone makes it through safely and that they can restore anything that is damaged.

Hurricanes don't usually just spring up literally out of nowhere in less than 100 hours, and when they do they are usually minor category 1 storms with poor structures.

This one is like Mother Nature flipped a switch and went straight to 100. :(

That guy is still by that webcam wiping the screen and adjusting the angle. Hes in the direct path of the eye. Hope he makes it

his bio
In early 1999 some events occurred that made me finally give up on the idea of moving when I was organized and ready to move. I sold my business of 27 years for what I could get for it, sold or gave away everything that I did not want to take down and bought a used travel trailer. I loaded the travel trailer full of stuff and at 3 am on Christmas morning of 1999 I crossed the boarder into Mexico basically dropping out of society as I knew it at 49 years of age to live full time in La Manzanilla Mexico.
he just posted this after power went out

Thanks guys. Yeah Marriott was on the ball and evacuated us at 9pm last night. Shut down the whole hotel. The only one to do so that early. Bused to Guadalajara, got to the room at 3am. Supposed to fly out of Gaud tomorrow, but looking increasingly unlikely.

We are safe, in a high part of the city that doesn't usually flood. The sky outside is a foreboding brownish grey. We have food and water for 72 hours. We are on the 12th floor, which I am someone concerned about, and I got in a fight with my in-laws today when I demanded that they stay in our room tonight, because they are on the 21st and winds in buildings get worse the higher you go. I'm worried about the glass breaking as Bitch Trish is supposed to be a Category 3 when it hits Gaud tonight/early morning.

I pretty good at keeping it together and have been on war footing to keep my family safe, hydrated, and fed since yesterday and I don't scare too easy, but I've from freaking Arizona and hurricanes are only something held in my imagination. Trying to stay positive for everyone else, but inside I'm a bit tense.

Overall, we'll be fine, just want this night to pass without glass breaking and my wife and daughter remaining safe.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I really appreciate it. Bear town.

Fuck, now the lights just flickered. Power is going to go.
Bear Down.

Seriously, as someone who has been through 4 of these, protect yourself from flying glass. If shit gets real, sleep in the bathroom. After Rita, we had large shards of glass embedded in our bedroom wall from our south facing windows. We were in a no window hallway, and it sounded like shotgun blasts when our windows blew out. I think Rita was only F2 by the time it got to Houston.
