Oh yea, that was me. Darn good pension too, although my salary sucks. Also could not afford to buy the house I am living in right now based on its current value and my salary. My wife did stay at home to raise the kids.

My first semester tuition at the UA was $333 in 1981.

$333 in 1981 equals $969.42 in 2019.
In state tuition at the UA now is something like $6000 a semester now. Out of state is like $18000.

My dad, boomer, got an early retirement package at 59 with a pension and bennys. He had to file for SS at 62 and the company deducted that amount from his pension each month.

Plus he had a 401k he'd been putting money into since the program started.

All that shit is gone now.

I don't like Mexican chorizo. It's like a billion flavor crepuscules beaming out in every direction and crashing into each other with nowhere to go.

Why do they put so much of it in chorizo and eggs? Where are the eggs? It's like jumping into a pool of nails.

Chorizo should only be used in very small portions, less than a tablespoon. That's why I never order in restaurants, but will use it at home. That way I can also use the soy version which is much less greasy.

Soy chorizo is an oxymoron.

I love chorizo. I've had about 26247 breakfast burritos from about 15 different places with chorizo and they vary wildly. My favorites mostly just have enough to flavor the egg and potato without making it soggy and greasy. Taqueria El Pueblito. Mmm.

There is a Spanish tapas restaurant a few blocks from my house in SD. It has, by far, the best chorizo I've ever had, quite a bit different than the local Mexican chorizo.

I get the reference, and I know I’m a worse person than you, but I don’t know how the two relate, and on a separate note I also can’t stand ‘Italian subs’ and always have. Same problematic overload as Mexican chorizo.

I want to separate it from Spanish chorizo, as per TucsonClip, which is good stuff like every sausage in the world, including Bar-S hot dogs, but not including Mexican chorizo.

Aha. I don’t have much skin in the game. I like Mexican chorizo. I’d probably like Spanish chorizo, too. But then I enjoy Marvel films and think they are cinema while also enjoying Scorsese as well.

Just a little gear switch here. Was just at Target and can confirm this cartoon below. I’ve long taken the radical position that the only good shorts are shorts you wear while exercising. This guy gets it. No self-respecting male should ever wear shorts in public unless they are exercising or hiking.

I wear cargo shorts all year round at home, and still wearing them to work except for 2 cold days last week, the first time in 6+ months.

I need to 4 pocket ones on the left, for keys, reading glasses, and my man purse cell phone wallet.

Never put wallets in your back pocket btw, if you sit on it.

Sadly, I see that short shorts are back for men which I will never wear.

Shorts are pretty much all I wear when not working unless it's below 65ish degrees outside or I'm in a more formal environment. When I was younger it was all about the long, baggy shorts. Now, everything o wear is at least about 2 inches above the knee. My legs are one of my few redeeming features so why not. Too hot to run around Tucson 80% of the time in jeans or chinos.

Costa Brava. It's really good. They also have a market right next door where they sell iberico ham, their chorizo, and other Spanish items and wine.

Costa Brava, classic Spanish tapas in a buzzy space.

Whatever that means, but that's what Google maps says. My youngest son lives in La Mesa, and we go out to eat a lot when we see him. Thanks for the heads up.

If a Taylor Swift song played on the radio I would not recognize it. Although I would recognize her if she was walking down the street, pretty attractive woman.

FAME is NOT worth it!

(Help me think this through!)

#1 - FAME overhauls your thinking toward constant self-promotion and over time lowers your personal morals/standards when it comes to methods of sustaining the self-promotion required for remaining FAMOUS.

#2 - FAME leads you to annoyingly believe you're suddenly an expert or deserve to be an authority on everything. See celebrities preaching all day on twitter.

#3 - The FAMOUS fall on the disadvantaged side of face to face interactions. This is a little harder to explain but the one whose story is already known will be subject to manipulation, or keeping manipulation at bay, when it comes to sitting in a room full of lawyers or going to an Eagles game.

#4 - FAME pretty much ensures you're known by everybody for one thing and only one thing. Whereas the obscure can be known by many different things to the different people of their daily life, and thus control (to a degree) the terms of how they're known, the famous are stuck being known for what makes them FAMOUS. Who wants to be recognized as anyone from Saved by the Bell when you're pumping gas or waiting in line at the pharmacy for your cocktail of Ambien, Xanax, and whatever they prescribe for when it burns to pee?

#5 - The worst part of FAME might be trying to keep up with it. It's just as difficult to stay relevant as it is to achieve FAME in the first place! Public attention shifts sooner rather than later and the inevitable fading of whatever you're known for leaves the FAMOUS in the compromising position of shamelessly forcing their brand down self-deprecating paths of famous-for-being-famous platforms such as trashy VH1 reality shows full of other has-beens - shows whose main selling point is public mockery of their downfall. See point #1. All this to frantically avoid the sinking feeling of being forgotten by the masses who are conditioned to dispose of the FAMOUS as quickly as they can consume the FAMOUS.

If you're not famous, but considering whether or not to become famous, and first want to know what it's like:

Borrow a friend's parrot and walk around town with it on your shoulder. Literally every single person on the streets will either try to talk to you, will talk to about you to who they're with, or just stare at you. Just to be able to keep walking, you'll find yourself starting to avoid eye contact and pretending you can't hear.

After an hour, decide whether you want to continue this kind of experience for every day of the rest of your life.

#4 is oh so true. There was a Real World reality “star” who parlayed his fame into some DJ gigs around Chicago. But he sucked. Then he bartended, but he was way too social and not very fast or accurate. Moved on to working the door at a few clubs. Got recognized all the time, but also fucked with by drunk meatheads who wanted to fight a dude they saw on TV.

Then one day I saw him working the checkout at a CVS. The girl ahead of me said, “Hey, didn’t you used to be.... uh.... what’s your name?”

I honestly hope he left the country. Fuck that kind of fame.
