USC Discussion - Enfield Era

Don't see a thread about this. I was sold and envisioned Dunk City rivaling Arizona's staunch defense and turning into a great little rivalry. But something isn't right. Is Enfield not a capable coach or does he need more time.

Here's some fan takes for your reading pleasure:

PS - HADEN, the poster is right, why didn't you hire HOWLAND who wanted the job? That would have been NAILZ.

I guess Haden could still do it, that would be interesting.

Doesn't he have a really good recruiting class coming in next year?

well enfield is already on the super hot seat, even at usc, going into next year. likely to finish the year something like 11-20 and 3-15 in the conference after going 11-21 and 2-16 last year. last place in the conference. they have 2 top 60 recruits coming in next year. looks to be usc's first top 25 recruiting class since 2007 with oj mayo that actually went to 3 ncaa tournaments.

No one actually thought he'd be a success or that he'd last long, did they? He had literally one good weekend and parlayed that into fairly big gig. Dude just keeps winning the lottery.

Ben. Howland.

Can you imagine? Can come in like a new person to the AAU scene. Already has ties, could use Westbrook, Love, Lavine, etc. to promote him.

Absolutely crush UCLA in recruiting. Be like what Tim Floyd did there.

Does Haden have the sack?

I don't know if Enfield is the answer or not, but if they fire him without giving him at least 4 years they are stupid.

Aren't there rules requiring pics be posted of Mrs Enfield anytime we are discussing coach Enfield?

I get it - Haden hires coaches based on the wife, until he has to try something else like with Kiffin.

LMAO....good one....and yeah, I can't believe the hype and luck of this Dude.....I don't see why he was touted as such a great coaching prospect.

As for the comment of Howland to USC.....that would be awesome....especially as Alford flames out at UCLA.....that hire was such a desperate 3 late in the clock IMHO.

Actually it was more like a Bryce Alford 26 foot shot 4 seconds into the shot clock

Hahah good sense of humor, Bug.

Keep hanging in there. I for one hope for a resurgence soon at UCLA. Hard to see now how that is going to happen.

How does he pull that???

I never though much of him as a hire. Figured he would sneak in a decent class or two before people saw he was just a guy who caught lightning in a bottle once. I agree with Salim's headband though, USC better give the guy 4 or 5 years before they start looking elsewhere.

From what I hear Miller and Enfield absolutely hate each other.

No one likes Enfield.

Miller isn't all that popular either.

Was this due to tampering with recruits?

Interesting... Enfield is the only one I have noticed where Miller does not stop and even say a word in the post-game handshakes.

Any coaches in the conference that ARE especially popular with their peers?

Kent and Romar are pretty well liked.

They do?

Most coaches don't like other coaches they compete against often because they want their teams to kick the holy living crap out of the other team and being friendly can get in the way of that passion to win. And guys who are more successful than others are going to be disliked more.

As for Enfield, he came into the conference and immediately started talking shit about a number of coaches both on the recruiting trail and in the media. That's not going to earn you any friends.

Stems from the Stanley Johnson recruitment. I guess Enfield got desperate near the end and it irked Miller. I know that the starters playing a little longer during the USC blowout was meant to send a message a little bit.

Walton on Enfield just now during the SC-UCLA broadcast, while UCLA shot fre throws over a technical foul Enfield earned with his temper: "Thank You for caring Andy Enfield! The coaches and recruits he's bringing in will revolutionize basketball in the conference of champions!"

The guy's in over his head.

I have no idea what his style even is, besides "dunk city" for 2 games.

Walton thinks USC will be one of the best teams in the Pac next year. Obviously the shrooms have just kicked in.
