Combine this with their announcement today of a new injection of cash ($42 million). Wow.

When I heard about Riley leaving, I felt like that was a huge moment for the Beav....basically they had to decide whether they were going to compete or start fading into the permanent 2nd tier of the conference.....looks like they ante'd up to compete.

Time for us to flatten Sancet and put in our hybrid indoor practice facility/game-day beer garden like Oregon...gotta keep up....

I think he's a solid coach.

In the Big Ten championship game, it looked like he was primarily running a pro style offense. I will be interesting to see how that competes with Oregon.

Gotta be honest.

I was counting on Oregon State hiring whoever they could get - meaning someone non-threatening. Yes, OSU is in the other division, but I was counting on that North entire division to continue being as bad as it is (OSU, WSU, Cal, +Colorado) for the sake of gimme wins.

Give Gary Anderson a few years and they'll be a solid prostyle team - a mini, 7/8 win Stanford.

I'm torn...part of me wants to keep some gimmes on the schedule, but on balance I would rather moves like this happen - in the long run it benefits us for the conference to be seen as strong & a desirable place to play/coach beyond just USC.

I wouldn't go that far - Corvallis is the 2nd hardest recruiting sell in the conference next to Wazzu. But, I can't imagine ntOSU making a better hire than this - definitely will be interesting to see how they do.

Truth. Mike Riley never lost less than 4 games there in 14 seasons and never did better than tied for 2nd in the PAC.

When it comes to football I'll always take more conference gimme wins than worry about how tough the conference is. I just look at a program like Georgia or South Carolina getting beat up in the SEC year after year despite having enough talent and coaching to win their shares of Big Ten's or Pac 12's. Rather be a 9 win team in the Pac than a 6 win team in the SEC.

Gary Anderson was never a good fit in Wisconsin given the clash between Barry Alvarez affinity for the pro-style offense and Anderson's affinity for the spread offense. Anderson didn't have the personnel to fit his scheme, but I guarantee you see a spread offense up in Corvallis before long.

This is true, but I was thinking about the whole conference. Riley's teams played spoiler from time to time, but for the most part they rolled over. I think they just got a whole lot tougher in their mindset.

Pitt should call up Al Golden right away. Average results thus far? Yes, but he'll always have them above .500.

The environment has turn absolutely toxic against Golden down in Miami; he's looking for a way out sooner rather than later. Place, for Pitt, he's a local PA guy who does as good of job as anybody when it comes to recruiting the New Jersey, PA, Florida trio. Plus he wouldn't be sweating through his shirts/ties so much.

We don't want the Miami job to come open according to some of the insiders. That's one place RR might go.

Many sources confirming Muschamp to be Auburn's next DC, a very highly paid DC at that.

largest NCAA contract:

Nick Saban: 8 years, $55M or 6.9/year

largest NFL contract:

Sean Payton: 5 years, $38M or $7.6/year

So on an annual basis, it would be the largest contract in football history.

$8M a year plus. I think I heard that's around $1.25M more per year than Saban. That's a pretty strong level of desperation; it will be interesting to see what happens if Jim doesn't actually go there.
Chicat wrote:Remember folks, they don't need a Michigan Man.

Think about how much it's cost them needing a "Michigan Man." They probably had a coach that would've won them the games in RR at about $3M a year. Instead they go with Hoke which slides fairly quickly into disaster. Then they feel they need to pay $8M to Harbaugh to get things going.

That's an expensive and destructive habit.
