I was just thinking "how come NAU is still in the Big Sky, but Grand Canyon gets into the WAC.

Then I looked up the WAC... man oh man how the mighty midget has fallen. NO FOOTBALL. The WAC was established explicitly as a football strong conference to balance the PAC-8 in the west. ASU thought it could control it, but they were in over their head and Wyoming and BYU had more success than ASU. Utah and Arizona and to a lesser extent New Mexico dominated basketball.

Now its just a holding place for little schools with modest goals and little ambition.

If there was any justice, NAU should be competing strongly in the Mountain West. How come they can barely keep up in the Big Sky? Is it the altitude? Something in the water? Does NAU just need some good facilities to attract good coaches and good athletes? That's just money, right? So , lack of vision by ABOR? The general war on education conservatives in control of the legislature? Jealous protection by ASU and Arizona?

I'm really at a loss to explain it. NAU is a 'sleeping giant' 8-)

School record for yards in a game. Most points we've ever scored against a "real" school. (Scored 167, 110 and 84 in 1920-21 against camp harry Jones, Bisbee legion and new mexico military institute)

We really are the forgotten team in this conference. Overlooked once again--at least until this time next Saturday.

To go D1 you need attendance of 15k+ but the dome can only hold so much so they need winning plus donations to move up.

They've got facilities on the way, but as Gilbertcat said, the dome capacity is shy of the minimum.

They've also got a dedicated basketball/volleyball arena in the works.

I thought I heard the winning streak started in 1932, so the last NAU win might be 1931 or earlier.

merk's got it right - series started in 1931; Arizona's first and only loss to nau was in 1932; streak's been going since 1933. 13-1 all time.
