Why would Lloyd have any influence over grades?

Reminds me when one of my brothers had Sean Elliott in a class. During the final Elliott walked in late, said something to the professor and walked out.

Pretty sure Elliott said "I'M M***** F***** SEAN ELLIOTT BITCH!".

I'm getting Michigan vibes with this team, which means they could end up like Villanova (quickly fading). Their only signature win was UNC (soft bubble team) with Villanova spanking them and a home loss to Texas Tech. Kennedy Chandler is legit, but outside of him, I don't know who else they have.
I think their defense is legit but the offense is lagging behind.

If we want to do some transitive property, Villanova smoked Tennessee, Creighton smoked Villanova by 20, Creighton lost to asu at home

Starts with a lot of bricked 3s. If you don't hit threes against us I don't think you have a chance

I had a class where when we walked in for the final there was a list of like 6 names on the chalkboard and it said for those people to speak to the professor before sitting down to take the test.

Everyone who went up front walked out with their heads hung. It was obvious they had failed the class and no matter how they did on the Final it wouldn’t change their grade.

The only person who walked out with a big smile after shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries with the teacher was listed as “R. Geary” on the chalkboard. I had literally no idea Reggie was even in that class.

We got a first place vote. Let me guess, Seth Davis.
Andy Katz had us at #2 last week, think he was the only one (from the Titus and Tate podcast.)

It was a beat writer from Colorado.

I had a class with Mills.
We had a final paper due. He was on steps out front when I walked in. He came to class about 5 minutes late. He walked in with another guy who was always by his side in class.
I’m sure he was out from waiting for this guy to bring his paper to him. No other reason to be late.

The only FB or BB player I ever had a class with was Craig McMillan. He missed a lot of classes for games but it seemed like he was doing the work. It was an easy class anyway, Philosophy 101.

I had one of the baseball pitchers in a class. It was the #1 guy that year. One day he told his buddy “hey let’s leave and go golf.” So he told the teacher that he had to go for treatment related to baseball and he couldn’t drive so the other guy was going to take him.

You had Ronnie Veal in a class and he was very engaged the whole semester.

I had a class with Jim Arneson back in the day. Not sure now but I think it was Cobol programming.

I might have met him at the TUSD Computer Center when we were in High School, but I'm not sure about that. There were a bunch of us that used to hang around from different schools and work on our programming projects.

Anyone remember the 2012-2013 season vividly (I've seem to memory holed everything in between winning vs top 5 Florida and losing to Ohio St on the Laquinton Ross shot) and think it could happen again to this year's Arizona team?

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/sc ... edule.html

This team had a Sr Lyons, Hill, Parrom, So NJ, and the obvious 3 freshman 5* bigs. Team went undefeated in pretty good non conference schedule and climbed to #3 in the nation and proceeded to go 12-6 in a pretty weak conference (only 3 ranked teams including Arizona at the end, all in the 20s).

It is hard to say, cause anything can happen. But that team had issues with defense at times and loved shooting the three ball. That said, mark lyons was a tough player but he would often chuck too much and wasn’t a true pg.

Interesting idea. I feel like this year is different for two reasons. First, 12-13 had some warning signs during the undefeated run (like back from the dead vs Florida and Sabatino Chen's shot being .00001 too late) that implied things weren't as pristine as the record.

Second, the roster composition is sort of the opposite, IMO. In 12-13, there was a logjam of similar players. Perimeter, we had a bunch of shoot first players who weren't big distributors (Lyons, Hill, NJ, Parrom). Post was a bunch of young guys who either weren't quite ready yet or never would be (Zeus, Ashley, Jerrett, Chol). The roster was too duplicative and lacking complements.

This year, the main 5 complement each other nicely, but we sort of need them all. There isn't a real plan B for Kerr or Tubelis. Plan B for Mathurin or Koloko involve significantly lesser players.

12-13 had trouble developing because there was no distributor, rim protector and a lot of similar parts. This year, I feel like we have the right parts, but the big ones are irreplaceable.

From those threads: I was wondering about their backup bigs having to put in special duty to match ours. Sounds like Vols fans have that take as well.

I like the Tennessee fans' analysis. That board seems level headed. From that sample it appears like a good fanbase, unlike Illinois who has a juvenile mindset.

Run the 7 footers to death! They are usually the ones who have to run the length of the court every time. Even if the shots aren't falling at first, it will pay dividends late in the game.
Good luck with that.

I'm looking forward to beating a ranked Tennessee team on the road and then Seth Davis not moving us up in his rankings because he then removes Tennessee off his top 25 list and claims we still haven't beaten a ranked team.

Think it'll be close almost the whole way, and then we'll pull away in the final minutes.

AZ 75, TN 67

Lower scoring game because both of these teams are strong defensively.

Thing is, both sides have to run and Koloko and Tubelis both run well. They're big but neither is a plodder that wants to jog.

It's like it used to be with Zeus. He was a big 7 footer but he was ready to run.

We're used to 77.4 possessions per game and they're used to 71.6. Pace isn't their thing.

Smarter would be spread the floor, try to get Chandler into pick and roll switches with Koloko or Tubelis and tell him to go downhill to draw reach ins or create drive and kick opportunities.

If they try to outrun us, they're going to lose, possibly by a lot. We've got the athletes and depth to more or less run you off the court.

They won't. That's just message board talk. Sure, bigs running is good, but they won't crank the pace, nor should they.

Chandler is probably our toughest defensive challenge yet. He's the first time I think we've seen a type of player who is built to exploit Lloyd's style of D.

Arizona is #4 in kenpom in tempo while Tennessee is #77. That's pretty good pace for a top 25 kenpom team.

There's only 10 in the kenpom top 25 who have a adjusted tempo under 100. They're relatively fast pace team just not as fast as Arizona.

I never really understand KenPom's adjustments, and for this, I thought raw possessions meant a little more.

Their poster is basically arguing they should max out possessions to tire our bigs by shooting faster. Point being, we're used to 77 possessions and they're used to 71. 71 is a bit above average but nothing special pace wise.

That strategy would be them adjusting their game to play ours, which I'm good with. They don't play slow, but they don't appear to have ever tried to win by anything close to maximizing possessions.

I hope Terry is on him. He can be a shut down defender on the perimeter. Just needs to stay out of foul trouble.

Hopefully a bit of both with Kier off the bench.

My bigger worry is that he can exploit Lloyd's P+R coverage by getting into Koloko or Tubelis and drawing contact. We have options on the perimeter, but Koloko or Tubelis being limited with fouls...well, we lack good options there. Either we have Koloko/Ballo and are vulnerable because of two bigs who stick to the lane or we lose our eraser in Koloko whose presence allows for more aggressive perimeter coverage.

Yeah and that was mentioned on one of the Tenn blogs that “Tubelis might not be available.”

Think they don’t know we have 2 of them. 😁

That's a good thing zu is in, we need him to score 10 of our first 18 points while everyone else warms up.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.
