Presumably because the team is wearing blue - and UTEP's 'main' color is red.

In a way, its pretty amazing we managed to stand out amongst all these generally ignored Western/mountain state schools.

If we didn't join the Pac would we be similar to UNM? A fine, flagship state school but with brief and occasional national impact?

Or should we be thanking some school leadership from the late 70s to early 90s for some shrewd moves?
The answer is YES.

Dear Lord, may they rot in hell for that blasphemy!!! Wish we had put a best down on them instead of a tight win for that insult.

Still......., thank you, thank you, thank you Sean Miller for being our Coach!!! So damned lucky to have him instead of Tim Floyd!

Bear Down.

So Craig Victor didn't fulfill an academic obligation, and his punishment was to NOT make the trip to El Paso?

I had to live in EP for two years, so IMO if they really wanted to punish him they should have made him stay the whole weekend! :)

Good post. Forgettable games from Tarc and Rondae. Tarc with five turnovers, and those wild-ass forays by Rondae might as well have been. He seemed extra manic tonight. Going too fast, losing balance, and tossing up junk. Wish he'd play more on the block.

Only two players had assists. TJ with eight and Rondae with two. Just did not cope well with the changing defenses Floyd threw at them. Their guard/wing pressure bothered us. Few open looks on the perimeter and Keystone Kops on the drives. Was the ball greased? Because neither team could hold on to it.

This is the first team that didn't play a sagging defense. They forced drives, and we didn't look comfortable at all.

TJ had seven rebounds to lead the way. We need to improve on the boards. York was 4-4 from the line. Other than that, 11-23. Ten steals, including a couple of big ones by Johnson in crunch time.

That game was uglier than Lorenzo Mata. Hunter foul-out was the key. He was the best player.

Tarc gets in great position down low. Our team does a piss poor job of feeding him. We have ballstoppers slowing offensive movement, not moving off the ball. When Tarc finally gets the ball in his hands, he's no longer in great position. It leads to more turnovers, bad shots, and almost an expectation for Tarc that he is facing the double each time he makes a move. It's like every movement he makes is the type of movement he would make in tight spaces, regardless of him actually being doubled or not. Miller always gets his team to figure this out later in the season, so I'm not worried. But Tarc is the classic guy who will play better in the pros than in college. He won't be able to gain position as well in the NBA but when he does, his teammates will know how to reward him. His efficiency should improve. He's not unskilled. That much is obvious. Sometimes it's easy to forget that big men, especially in a 4-1 or 3-2 motion offense, are much like WRs to QBs in football, dependent on another player to put them in a position to take advantage of their skills. Same goes for RHJ. When we get spacing and ball movement figured out, this team is going to destroy opponents.

Their player (Willms) missed the front end of an one-and-one because these dumbasses wouldn't shut up. Lovely.
ah, the nick johnson foul-out technique :D

Yeah, I agree, the offense may have more facets, but older method of feeding Jordan Hill and Derrick Williams down low and seeing what awesome things happen does not appear with Tarc. Even feeding Jesse Perry deep down low was sort of useful.

Because of strategy or maybe Tarc is not as disruptive down low?

Wentto the game and just want to say that utep fans were awful. Good Lord, of all the road crowds I've witnessed they were by far the most idiotic. Maybe the beer they served didn't helpbut the insults didn't make sense. Even after the game the hate was insurmountable. Goodthing I just pointed to the scoreboard which really poised some off. : lol:

Btw good for those who went. The uofa chant was pretty loud.

I don't feel like starting this as its own thread - but does anybody want our guys to hit the weight room more? BAsh, Shimmy-throw, and especially Tarc? Against Vince Hunter, all three looked so skinny! We could really use a cement shouldered build like Hunter in the paint. A Charles Oakley type. Granted, I imagine Pac 12 refs would whistle him up every chance they get, but it seems like all the consistent programs out east have one and put them to successful use. Syracuse, Pitt, Georgetown...
