Interesting. To me the fulcrum looks lower on the foot then say the Tubelis injury where we thought initially that it might even be a knee.

Again, I'm a message board doctor, but the problem is the ankle rolls much more easily out than in.

Just stand and try to roll out and in. You get a much larger ROM outwards. Meaning, rolling out, you overstress a natural roll more. Rolling in, you take the ankle beyond where it can easily go, so it distributes the strain higher and has more of a rigid...then snap effect.

Would be good news, would help to sit him completely in Rd of 64 but I don't like a player returning cold vs what could be a tough 8/9 opponent.

So maybe some light minutes.

Everybody's ankles are different.

I have very strong ankles. I've have tripped and put almost all my weight on a turned over ankle and never even had a mild sprain.

I have a friend who routinely sprains his ankles walking up/down stairs.

Let's hope Kerr's got strong ones.

Nothing concrete outside of what I just said. Every sprain is its own unique beast. He’s done as far as Vegas goes barring a miraculous recovery tomorrow morning (and an AZ win tonight). Every thing is up in the air after that. There’s hope for being ready for game 1, we’ll see.

i mean you never want someone to get hurt and all ankle injuries are bad (especially for basketball players) but this is the one for a player of his size to get if youre gonna get one - fastest return time but its still 2 to 3 full weeks before 100% with heavy rehab and strict rest.

my guess is he won't rest the proper time and will not be 100% till after the season.

however, he is a tough SOB and if he can play will play. he will take any shot and enlist any remedy legally available. unless the ankle was broken i expected him back, a high ankle sprain woulda rendered him almost meaningless, an inversion gives me hope.

Even if he's back, I'm not really sure I'd exect contribution in a significant way within two weeks.

The crappy part is that basically means he's unlikely to be close to his usual through the Elite Eight if we get there. Obviously how he progresses will be big, but the second aspect is that strict rest is going to take a toll on his conditioning too.

More than anything, I'm happy for him. His future is a bigger deal then our tourney. I'm happy he has a chance to contribute, because I'm sure that matters to him and I hope he manages it right to maximize his ability to contribute and minimizes future consequences.

In the ‘79 NFL playoffs Jack Youngblood broke his leg against Dallas. He told the trainer, “Tape it up. I can still make plays.” And that’s exactly what happened. They taped it up, he played the rest of that game and led the Rams to the Super Bowl.

I'm trying to be optimistic, so if you watch the gif when he's in the air, it looks like he hits Koloko's left knee a little. Hopefully this helped somewhat break his fall and it's not as severe as it looks. Hopefully they can work some magic behind the scenes and he is ready to go at the start of the tourney. Rough not having him in practices though.

If Bal makes or breaks a game vs Colorado, we have bigger problems. Colorado is decent, but we should beat them straight up without Kerr.

No disrespect, but there isn't a player the Buffs have that should crack our lineup right now. Jabari Smith is their best, but I'd prefer Tubelis. Even minus Kerr, we have a decided advantage across the board. If it gives them anything, maybe an edge in depth, but that's about it.

I obviously have a little thing for Simpson, but neither he or Barthelemy is better than Kier right now.

We're better than Colorado, but it's March and not always about who has the better starting lineup.

Execution, killer instinct, steady play for 40 minutes, hustle...if a team with inferior talent is better in these areas, they can beat just about anyone. Ask Tony Bennett.

It's not about a make or break game vs Colorado for Bal but about depth and being able to give rest to the 7 core guys without Kerr.

If he can be serviceable out there that's a huge plus for us. And could benefit us later if someone gets fouled out or double tech or another rolled ankle as another body to throw out in a crunch.

We need his minutes tonight to be a plus.

I just see it this way. No matter how many minutes Kier, Larsson, Terry and Mathurin play, there's a minimum of 4 straight days of rest before a first round matchup. The first round matchup...well, you certainly hope it will be one where you don't have to extend your starters much. Frankly, I'd rather give Bal minutes in a 1-16 game.

Bottom line, I think you do what you have to do tonight. We're almost basically guaranteed a 1 seed or if the world crashes down, a 2. So it's gonna be at least a full week before you play a team that isn't supposed to be a tuneup. If you need more minutes from Kier, that's ok.

Of course, half of me also thinks we should just forfeit to keep anyone else from getting hurt. Conference tourneys...when you're pretty much on the 1 seed line, I'd as soon not play them to begin with, but if we play, minutes don't matter heavily.

I saw him in a Bal-type freshman role, becoming a bench rotation player as a soph and challenging for the starting lineup as a junior and senior. To me, he's best as a multiyear developmental guy.

Being at Colorado instead of here turned his development on its head. At CO, he's been pushed into the rotation immediately and having to score immediately. When he was coming here, I figured he'd get spot minutes, there, he's their 5th leading scorer and the second leading perimeter option.

His %'s are not great, but it seems clearly because Colorado can't wait for him to develop, so they just rolled him out as a freshman and live with his adjustment period to college.
