Feel terrible for Ray. Here's to a full, smooth recovery.

As for us, while this injury obviously weakens our prospects for the upcoming season, let's put this in perspective. RS was likely not going to start, at least not right away. This opens the door for other guys to get playing time and improve faster. There's always a silver lining.

But again, this is mainly about Ray. He's part of the Wildcat family, and I hope this injury doesn't derail his hoops career too greatly.

Shaun Livingston says "what?"

Worst knee injury I have ever seen and he came back.

So Sean Miller has not declared Smith's basketball life over yet?

Has he not talked to Hater yet?

Looks like the U of A is saying it's only an ACL tear. That'd be very good news if that's the case.

So I'm confused, are you still under the impression that Ray's career is over? If so how does it feel to be so dense?

Please list your inside sources and medical knowledge that proves me wrong. I'll wait. and wait. And wait.

Who needs inside sources and medical knowledge when you can just aimlessly panic and throw feces out of your ass right? You keep telling the world how right you are Hater with absolutely no basis for your take. Lord knows somebody has to believe you're right.

There's genuinely nothing better than a guy with no inside sources or medical knowledge asking for others to provide inside sources or medical knowledge to prove him wrong.

I seem to remember an NFL running back tear an ACL and come back pretty strong recently. I forget his name, Adan Patterson, Petterson, idk, something like that? :D

I mean, seriously, we see torn ACLs all the time, people who work hard and work smart come back from these. To say that his career is done is absurd. If you have top notch medical care (which we do), then it boils down to the individual, and I think we can agree that Smith has it in him to come back strong.

At least he knows what he's in for as far as rehab and recovery. And he knows he can come back from this, which is huge as far as mindset and work ethic.

great point. his knee should also be much stronger once it's healed (i think), and maybe this will help coalesce the team. and while we're searching for silver linings, if an injury like this had to happen, i suppose it's better that it occurred during the preseason rather than later. here's to a speedy and full recovery.

I have only 2 concerns. First, is for Ray himself. 2nd, with two acl tears, hoping he doesn't have a disconnective tissue disorder like marphans, or other such as my wife has.

OK, make that one concern. Rays short-term, and long-term health.

Got the notification message Saturday morning as we were getting ready to walk to homecoming. Sat my buddies down and broke the news to them. We were in shock for what seemed like 10 minutes. Not even a chance he will see March Madness minutes. Feel so bad for him. I cant imagine what that practice was like when it happened.

Poor guy. Working hard to get back only to be hit with this.

Only silver lining, I assume he can redshirt and still have 4 years on his clock next year instead of losing a full year of eligibility for a game or two. That's just really bad luck. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

Probably hasn't had the surgery yet. Don't they wait a few days to let the swelling go down?

I think when it's torn, it's torn. Can't tear it twice.

From knowing people who have torn it, just walking isn't bad. Running, planting, changing direction, jumping and landing at any speed, that's a different story. I've known people who've torn it and never fixed it. The knee is unstable as heck, but it is not impossible.

Eebs, yes, they wait a few days to let swelling go down and make sure everything is cleaned out. The most important part (besides proper rehab of course) is to have everything perfectly prepared for surgery and be able to do it cleanly. It's not urgent to get surgery done. I think it's usually about a week between tear and surgery.

What crappy news, Poor kid. Especially after all he has been through, mentally and physically, after the prior injury. As for the team, yes it is a blow, but we got lots of depth. Answers our earlier questions of how minutes are going to be dispersed on the wing. He was definitely looking like a guy who, come march, may be one of our best players that would have elevated us to a deeper run. I still think this team has the roster to do the same.

Um, okay.

Just wondering how soon we might have a read on whether he's decided to attend college next year or whether he wants to align his rehab with the NBA Draft timeline.

He's going to go pro based on his junior year of HS tape?

If this is questioning whether he is leaving for the NBA, there's an easy answer to that.

No, his ballislife mixtape. Those are basically the gold standard for NBA scouts.

Long term health and quality of life? Do you even know what an ACL injury is nowadays?

Giving up playing a game he loves because there is a possibility his knees could hurt when he is older. Forgoing a lifelong dream even though continuing to be active could reaggravate it, or if you just stop working out, you will get super fat, which is also bad for your knees.

What's great about this is that people somehow know that he will recover perfectly and be able to play at the same level and won't be even more injury prone after these multitude of serious injuries. What's your secret?

It could go well. It could go poorly. According to you, he should just not try bc it would be bad for his long term health.

I played team basketball through college. Due to that I have no ligaments in my left ankle. I don't regret a minute of it.

Saying he should never play a minute more...maybe he should encase his entire body in a protective, inflatable bubble.
