Injury Updates, Player Availability 2016-17

This needs a thread of its own IMHO.

Kobi says he's fine after spraining his ankle....Kadeem sprained his knee.

http://www.azdesertswarm.com/basketball ... onzo-trier
Simmons, who dropped a game-high 18 points, would return though, and afterward he said that his anke is “fine”, according to Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily Star.
Kadeem Allen, who hit the game-winner, also hurt his left knee in the game, but evidently it didn’t slow him down too much.

Are we going to be starting walkons by December?

It used to be old school basketball that if you sprain your ankle, the faster you get back on the court the better. Think Luke Walton.

Think modern medicine has debunked that though, and rest and elevation is best.

Wouldn't even play Allen and Simmons v. Bakersfield. Give the walk ons a lot of minutes.

Looks like the football teams issues have spilled to basketball. At this rate we'll be starting walkons by pac 12 play.

Revised the title a bit to include all current player availability for this year. Currently we have:

1) Talbot Denny out all year for Injury
2) Ray Smith - ACL injury / Retired
3) Zo Suspended - availability maybe Spring?
4) Kadeem injured knee - missing CSUB, up to a couple of weeks? Update: no structural damage but swelling.

Also, will add one more Walk On as Dylan Smith fell in practice and has a concussion....good grief :-(

Missing anyone?

Snake bitten. :(

Loss of available talent aside, you could definitely see what Kadeem brings in terms of leadership, experience and confidence to the team. I think we win that game by 30 with Kadeem available, and they certainly wouldn't have done anything close to that 17-0 run that got it down to 4.

Kadeem is clearly the leader of the team. Could be good for the team to have to fight through some adversity without him, build some leadership skills in the vacuum that he leaves.

Also I've got to imagine that this team looks over at Ray Smith and thinks "goddamnit I'm lucky to be out here, let's get this W."

Still can't believe how this happened to a really cool Cat like Ray :( Bear Down Ray and good luck with the surgery!

Really need Trier back now that we're down 4 scholarship players from what we thought we'd have a few months ago.

hey justin simon, hope you're enjoying sitting it out this season on the opposite side of the country from your family and friends. you'd be competing for some solid blocks of floor time, had you stuck it out here. :p

Same to Craig Victor iiiiiiiii. Granted he's now near his fam and gets run but lsu is irrelevant on the national stage.

There are worse things that could happen then Simmons getting the next month of experience learning to play PG. Count me as one who agrees with 97 that we're not going to the FF with a midget PG who can't shoot, defend or create his own shot. Simmons being ready to play in March gives us a better chance.

Hey Terrance Ferguson I hope you're enjoying playing in front of know one in the land down under and hurting your draft stock in the process. You'd be competing for a lottery spot had you even tried at Arizona.

He's still not a point guard.

I don't think 97 thinks a freshman Simmons at pg can take this team deep, either. But here we are, and with no depth whatsoever on the wing. Lauri really will need to play the 3. He better be as good as Dirk.

So from where we thought the roster would be about 5-6 months ago we've lost Simon, Trier, Smith, PJC and Ferguson.

And Talbot for depth .... which we could use right now.

Jacob Hazzard and Matt Korcheck were probably some of the most talented end of bench players we barely used, and they would have contributed this year. I don't see much potential in this crop of walk-ons, but I hope they prove me wrong.

Hazzard actually had some offensive talent. The guy who played last night... I'm pretty sure I could put on a uniform and knock them down at the same level in warmups as he has and I'm rusty as hell. I realize we cannot ask much more than to be the 5th body when absolutely needed and to be at least a semi-competent defender, but damn. We saw some zone last night, we are going to have to use it quite a bit now to protect our guys from foul trouble.

In retrospective, letting Pitts sit on the bench while going through campus judicial review wasn't such a good idea after all, losing a good walk on like Hazzard. Miller made the choice, to keep the scholarship player.

Wait do you actually think TF preferred playing in Australia to the UA? You think he chose Australia over UA? Are you fucking nuts?

Not sure I follow. Hazzard was a senior last year.

Yeah, Ferguson didn't exactly have a choice. He could have been ineligible here or played overseas. Hmm...

High ankle sprains typically require 4 to 8 weeks off the court, though they can keep a player out much longer depending on the severity.
