I’ve seen this movie before . . .

I thought it would be a national championship that would bring me back into the community . . . instead it is the death knell for Arizona basketball that did it. Kudos to you guys on covering the various permutations and implications of this almighty clusteruck. Even the crazy people on this board (you know who you are! {finger guns}) . . . are mostly making sense. The tinfoil brigade has even got me looking in the reflections for a tail. And maybe you are right. There are certainly enough facts not aligning to raise the possibility. But if you are willing to entertain the possibility that these misalignments might ultimately paint a picture that exonerates Miller, you also have to realize that the missing parts of the picture might do the opposite—reveal the connections that explain the misalignment. It seems like most of us get it . . . this is a mess of which neither heads nor tails will be made anytime soon. It’s the ESPN hysteria that has really taken me aback. Hence the thread title.
You guys ever see Malèna? Monica Bellucci in her prime? It’s set in a Italian village during WWII that is eventually liberated by American soldiers. There is this incredibly powerful/painful scene where as the liberating GIs parade through the village, she is dragged out into the streets by the village women (harridans) who then proceed to rip off her clothes and cut her hair off. Her offense? Being too hot and tempting the village men. In the scene, the village women strip and beat her while the village men watch and do nothing. Meanwhile, a 12 year old boy (Renato) who had a crush on her to the point of surreptitiously following her around and “protecting” her watches in horror unable to do anything to protect her from the jealously raging harpies. I told you I’ve seen this movie before.
Anyway, I give you Malena:
Starring:
Malena as Sean Miller absorbing the punishment
American soldiers as the FBI
Village Harpies as hysterical, shrieking ESPN analysts
Little boy Renato as helpless Arizona fans
Village men as #APlayersProgram alums and top 20 recruits who stand by silently and say nothing as Malena is violated
Mildly NSFW—There may be a stray boob in there for you sensitive types. But then this whole bloody mess is NSFW.
