College football rankings provide problems and little else in playoff era

It's true. The coaches and ap polls mean nothing to the playoff committee. The polls are now just meaningless fodder for fans and media to squabble about the first 8-9 weeks of the season and have no real purpose.

Do they not consider polls when they look at SoS, good wins, etc?

Reading that article where they interviewed the people on the committee...they basically said they completely ignored the polls. There are other ways to look at sos

Steve Spurrier used to vote Duke for the preseason poll, back when Duke sucked at football since he had fond memories coaching there.

It is meant as a satirical, non PC, take on sports media. The podcast Pardon My Take is by far the best part, as the blogs are unreadable, but they make fun of typical, sports media who regurgitate the same old tropes when there is nothing to talk about. The MJ vs Lebron, Mount Rushmore of different topics, stay woke, the same old headlines etc. It is not for everybody by any means, but Pardon My Take is very funny. They get pretty big names for interviews and try to be different. Some people get their humor (SVP, CJ McCollum, Bortles, Blake Griffin, Rachel Nichols) and some people don't (Dak, Addison Russell, AJ Green). Bill Walton was a hilarious interview especially listening to him every week call the Cats games.

Saw a list that said Arizona is the 112th best team against the spread the last 10 seasons.

That's the first preseason list I've seen us ranked higher than like #35

We received 2 votes in the Coaches poll. Hopefully that’s motivation for the team

#31 in the AP poll. If we start at 4-0 we will probably be around #20 going into the USC game.

So ESPN has us at #52 and CBS at #90? CBS really hates the PAC 12 this year it looks like with having 4 teams at 90 and below. That means CBS thinks there's like 20-25 group of 5 teams better than 1/3 of the conference.

CBS thinks that Hawaii, Eastern Michigan, Louisiana Lafayette, Toledo, and Miami of Ohio are better than Arizona, UCLA and Colorado?

Maybe they’re factoring in the uncertainty surrounding Sean Miller.....

If by some miracle we win the bye week, beat a likely 0-4 UCLA at home and somehow dig out a win in the road with an inconsistent Colorado...we could be borderline ranked for a home game with Washington. Though they do have to play at BYU and Stanford and home against USC before then.
