and then i remember that there's a reason vegas makes so much money, and instead I keep my wallet closed and spend my money on things like groceries, electricity, etc.

I really don't think he needs to tamp down expectations of more than 5 or 6 wins, that's optimistic enough.

If we win more than 4 games, and I am lured in enough to pay for a tv service to watch more than 4 games...with a 1 to 4 month old baby at home...this season will be a resounding success.

If I’m a college player looking to get endorsement money, I’d rather be in Tucson where there’s an abundance of medium-sized businesses and no pro sports teams, than somewhere like LA where there are a million people who are way more famous than a college athlete.

That's my thought. Tucson is no LA but it's no podunk town and has plenty of millionaire businesses looking to capitalize on marketing here with the only game in town.

Still necessary to have an O line that can block and a D that can make a stop once in a while.

Love your enthusiasm and high hopes, but not seeing it. If I did, I'd already have tix for Vegas.

I'm concerned about Joiner. I think he can be a potent weapon for us this year. Hoping he recovers quickly.

For any long-time Arizona fan, it's worth going to the game just to see what our team looks like. BYU will be solid. They lost their QB to the NFL, and their record last season was inflated by cupcakes who were willing to play them in the year of COVID. This year, their schedule swings way back in the other direction, so if we do happen to beat them, I'm sure we'll hear the predictable refrain that they somehow suddenly suck, but a lot of any drop-off for them will be schedule-driven. Both of our lines should be able to hang in there, certainly before any injuries hit during the course of the season. We'll have some element of surprise with new systems, but BYU will have continuity and depth. I don't particularly expect to win (although any Arizona fan who's held out for Guaranteed Win Night over our football history has managed to avoid a lot of contests)...but I do expect an entertaining game. It's pretty hard to expect that, in Game One, we can execute well enough to get full advantage out of some of our athletes, or that we can avoid a fair number of mistakes. But, we'll have a much better idea schematically of what the program is trying to get to. In any event, we'll be there. Hey...it's Vegas!

We are getting +7.5 on the early line which is a lock. This team will be frothing at the mouth abd with us running fewer plays I would bet the cats, the under and drop some on us on the money line. That is exactly what I plan to do and it will pay for my trip

I don't hold out a lot of hope against BYU. Those guys will be 24 y/o playing against 19/20 y/o. What I'm interested in are our transfers and how they perform.

Not a chance we get pounded IMO. Line is BYU -7.5 so Vegas thinks it will be close as well.

BYU has no film on us offensively. We will score twice in the first quarter before they adjust. Our defense will be better just from being more aggressive rather than reactive. I see good things in our first game

Perhaps, but I won't predict anything based on the product Sucklin produced. This is the guy who destroyed Khalil Tate. He wouldn't have fired Marcel if he hadn't been forced to.
Even before the reinstatement of the Michigan stud linebacker. I believed we are going to field a good defense, and we won't be getting pounded like we used to.

Only person who destroyed Khalil Tate was Khalil Tate. You could see Sumlin and Mazzone yelling at Tate to run downfield during a pass attempt, and Tate would either throw the ball out of bounds, or more common run out of bounds losing a couple of yards. Tate wanted to be Peyton Manning instead of Cam Newton.

This year the defense is going to be better than the offense. Last time that was...

One of the first things Bumlin said is he wanted Tate to be more of a passing QB. I honestly don't know, but I bet he would have had a better career If RR hadn't been canned.

Tate could have had an NFL career if he didn't insist on being a QB. Only UA offered him as that.

Since he ended up being pretty fragile, he would have been better off at a position where he didn't get hit so much, such as WR.

We should be vastly improved on defense. Just the fact we will play at a slower tempo on offense should provide fewer yards given up per game although so think yards per play is a better indicator.
