Schooler was already covered on day 57 and has now been given #7.

Schooler is a 6-0, 224, Freshman linebacker from Mission Viejo HS, Mission Viejo, CA. Last year he had 77 tackles (4 for a loss) and 2 sacks down from 121 tackles (9 for a loss) and 7.5 sacks his Junior year. One article mentioned the drop off in production was because teams were planning for him, but it may also be because Schooler was also the team's primary running back. He rushed for 1,161 yards caught 21 passes for 464 yards scoring 25 total TDs.

Regardless of the reason, Schooler was still good enough to be named the Orange County defensive player of the year. Schooler is another Freshman who has a good chance of seeing the field this year. His brother Brenden Schooler is a Sophomore linebacker for Oregon.

57 yards is the Arizona record for the longest field goal held by Lee Pistor at Iowa in 1977, Max Zendejas at AssU in 1985, and Jon Prasuhn at Pacific in 1995.

He's a good one. I'm excited to see what he can do.

Boggles the mind that this kid didn't get better offers.

Size was the major factor.

AG on Schooler at AST. I chopped up his story to just get the meat, so don't blame AG.
“I was going to all the top schools and everywhere I went, they all kept telling me that the best player they played against — if they played against him — was Colin Schooler,” Yates said. “And they couldn’t understand why he didn’t have offers.”

It didn’t make much sense to high school coaches in the area that no Pac-12 team was offering a scholarship. It didn’t make sense to Yates. It didn’t make sense to Schooler.

He was a two-way standout at Mission Viejo High, making 77 tackles as a senior and gaining 1,161 yards as a running back for a powerhouse 11-1 team. He made long touchdown runs. He returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown against Long Beach Poly.

He won the linebacker MVP award at a Rivals camp in California before his senior season. He was chosen the Defensive Player of the Year by the Orange County Register after his senior season.

Schooler is big enough, listed at 6-foot, 226 pounds by Arizona. He’s smart, described as having great instincts and a high football IQ. He’s the son of a high school coach.

His brother Brenden, a year ahead of him in school, already had proven that an underrated Schooler could have Pac-12 talent. Brenden had 74 tackles and four interceptions at Oregon last season, despite being ranked as only the 1,861st-best recruit in the nation in the 247Sports composite.

So, let’s ask again: What wasn’t to like about Colin Schooler?

“So, I went and I met the kid, I met his dad, I met his mom and I already knew his brother because I had wanted his brother here with us,” Yates said.

“I came back and said, ‘Coach, this is our guy. He loves football. He fits what you want. He fits what I want.'”

Earlier this month, linebackers coach Scott Boone said Schooler physically “looks like a linebacker that can play in the Pac-12.”

GoAZCats with a free interview with Schooler.

7 is the number of games Khalil Tate played in last year. Hard to guess if he will be over or under that number this year.

Who's the zombie? I would go with the over on a RR wildcard season.

He deserves it. 15 tackles and game sealing pass break up.

Very deserved. So we had both the offensive and defensive player of the week (Tate and Schooler). Have to wonder how often that has happened

I suspect that it is a fake picture of 7 of 9.

Isn't this the same guy that flopped on Schooler to draw the personal foul?

Schooler had one of the greatest high school coaches of all time at Mission Viejo. That coaching staff if loaded with NFL guys and knowledge. That and the "dumbing" down of the defense has helped tremendously on him picking everything up quickly.
