Not part of this thread but the PAC-12 Network (national feed) is getting ready to replay the 1992 game vs Washington.

So lateeee. I don't know that sd86 and I will ever see Arizona games if we're living in Wisconsin in a year or two. Games will all start at 930 pm and later.

Do it pretty often but I wouldn't blame anyone for skipping Arizona football. I will say that trying to watch sports in general sucks as you move east as many games end pretty late.

Yea I barely can find games or watch them now when they start at 7 or 8 pm on random channels. Also my wife works nights usually Wed/Thurs/Fri so Sat night is our only time to do anything fun together anymore with my long work hours. Can't imagine if 4 hour long games are starting at 8-10 pm CST that I'll ever be watching. Thanks Larry Scott and machina.

Picked up my Lindy's college football annual and the Wildcats LB corps is getting some notice - Ranked #5 as a unit behind Alabama, Miami, LSU, & Penn State: "Arizona's defense has some concerns; linebacker is not one of them. Junior Colin Schooler's development into a multi-dimensional playmaker is reminiscent of Arizona predecessor Scooby Wright. Fellow third-year starter Tony Fields led the team in tackles and sacks as a freshman. Sophomore "stud" linebacker Jalen Harris - the son of linebacker Sean Haris from the program's Desert Swarm glory days - could be the edge rusher the Cats have been missing for, oh, about a decade."

Lindy's also ranks JJ Taylor as 9th overall RB and Khalil Tate as 15th overall QB.

Sb nation preview. Says 6-6. They predict we'll be favored in our first 5 games and be the underdog in 6 of the last 7. Basically their statistical analysis says we have to go 4-1 or 5-0 to start to have a chance of bowling.

Here's my best shot with the required amount of overconfidence/optimism thrown in:

@ Hawaii--W
NAU-----W
Texas Tech--This game scares me but most likely a --W
UCLA---W
@Colorado--W
Washington--L
@USC---L
@Stanford-L but might win
Oregon St --W
@ Oregon---L
Utah----L
@ ASU--W

So 7-5 but just as likely 6-6. Outside shot at 8-4 but this might be a pipe dream.

Do people really get excited about a 6-6 bowl game? They pay so little, and get so little attendance they end up costing the conference money.

Just go 5-7 and beat ASU.

On paper our ceiling is like 9-3, maybe even 10-2 if absolutely everything goes our way and we get like a Auburn kick 6 type miracle or something. Basement is still like 3-9 though.

My best guess considering I ended not watching half of last season and haven't paid attention to any camp or recruiting news...

@Hawaii--W
NAU-----W
Texas Tech--L
UCLA---W
@Colorado--toss up
Washington--L
@USC---L
@Stanford-L
Oregon St --W
@ Oregon---L
Utah----L
@ ASU--toss up

4-8 to 6-6

Realistic. I lean more to the 4-8 scenario, based on our abysmal coaching.

So your prediction is anywhere from 10-2 to 3-9? Nothing like covering just about any possibility. Care to refine that down a bit?

Any thoughts on playing Texas Tech?

I'm expecting they'll have a big advantage on both Lines - the Raiders have both the OL and DL all returning.

But all in all TT is just an average team with an average coach.

Yea that's a good comparison.

Also, TTech D uses 3 DL and up to 6 DBs. Arizona should focus on getting a running game going before trying to air it out.

edit: along with Houston, the BYU debacle too.

Combined 0-4 Vs middling Houston and BYU since 2016 :oops:

The 2018 season was just unwatchable. I’m generally optimistic that Arizona has a chance every game but last year the games were not enjoyable to me. I just want Arizona football to be enjoyable in 2019. Low expectations.

Why did Wilner say Tate is a pocket passer? He proved last season he is not, any much better out of the pocket where he can use his wheels. Also the UA has a new starting QB for 2020 in Gunnell, and won't need to be looking for one to come in and compete for immediate playing time.

Looks like has been fixed:

My prediction (talking out of my ass ....kinda): Grant Gunnell is the starter for the last 4 games of the season if not prior.

Posted: Thu Aug 15, 2019 9:45 am
by Merkin
Tate is glass, so I would guess even earlier given that he is under so much pressure to go back to running more downfield than out of bounds.

Since his dad mentioned "toe", along with his ankle and shoulder injuries, I would suspect it is turf toe which I imagine is easy to aggravate playing at the high level he is expected to play at.

With an actual QB at 2nd string, Sumlin may be more inclined to pull Tate too if Tate doesn't run the plays as called. Rhett is a smart guy, but can't throw the ball 20 yards without lofting it. Gunnell can throw it on a straight line.

Eh a bowl game and a win over ASU wouldn't put him on the joy seat. If in 2020 he's 6-6 then he'd be on the hot seat in 2021.

I’m going the 7-6 route loaded with early wins to get fans hopes up and sad ending against Washington that is a highly hyped National ESPN game. Tate will get injured early against Washington, Gunnel will try to keep Arizona in the game but fans will jump the walls early and lose by a last second 30 yard TD on 3rd and long to end the game.

I’m semi joking, it’s more likely Arizona looses in Blow Out with the game day crew in town.
