Is this staff having trouble recognizing talent?

Post by Carcassdragger »

It's just a topic of discussion, but wondering if McCloud was not given a fair shot before this.

Joiner is a stud, is supposed to be 100% and doesn't seem to be getting an opportunity to make plays.

Jalen John may be a playmaker but is not playing much.

McCloud arrived late due to finishing up his degree at USF and didn't grasp the playbook as well as the other 2 QBs did who were at spring camp.

And obviously McCloud has the weakest arm of the 3.

But convinced McCloud would have won at NAU, even with a reduced playbook.

I didn't watch the game... but why is everyone extremely optimistic over a guy who just threw 5 INTs?

They were so correctable. Learn to take a down. Run it yourself like you clearly can. I'm optimistic because he can clean up those mistakes.

He's mobile, can avoid the rush, and run in the open field. He's money on short passes.

I need to learn how to spell his name.

Just reading the comments I feel like this was the greatest 5 INT game in the history of the sport.

Let me make it clear. Even with 5 Ints it is clear the offense is better with McCloud. It does not mean Arizona would have won any game outside of NAU.

Also the context. His first time leading the offense was an away game at the #3 team in the country.

..and Jalen John has another good game but hasn't seen the field much.

And what about Markoff?

Is Joiner better than Plummer at QB if you use the right scheme? After seeing what Rich Rod did with Denker, I'm wondering.

I don't think it's fair to say Joiner should be playing qb. The guy switched positions and is now a wide receiver. Maybe he does not want to play qb anymore?

Well, he was recruited as a QB. He probably switched positions because he wasn't going to play QB once RR left.

Yep.

Just as he did in choosing the Arizona Wildcats over interest from several other notable programs, this offseason Jamarye Joiner made a decision that he felt was necessary in order to maximize his college football career.

Transfer? That would have been the easy way out. Instead, Joiner took it upon himself to suggest a position change, from quarterback to wide receiver, to give him a better chance to contribute.

Based on how he looked during the first day of Arizona’s fall camp, it looks like that switch was a smart one.

“He looked good today,” Arizona coach Kevin Sumlin said Friday of Joiner, a former 3-star prospect from Vail’s Cienega High School. “He’s one of the top athletes on this team.”

I don't blame him. How many times does a WR get hit compared to a QB?
