Do you? I mean, I know you love your children, Arizona Basketball, justice and equality, animals, travel, books and TV shows, and that former female prison inmate with the plastered-down hair and the eternally unsurprised look behind the counter at the Circle K. Physicians care about their patients, teachers their students, journalists their stories. And almost everybody wants recognition, to help those who are less fortunate, to ensure that their neighbors and coworkers happy, to maintain health, to have more money instead of less money, and to keep your job or get a better one.
But all of that stuff really only takes up a pretty small fraction of our daily experiences, which are otherwise dominated by calls for meetings to talk about possibilities for collaborations and new synergies, the need for more professional mentoring, or whatever is the equivalent in your world.
As far as the majority of things go, do you simply not care about things that you think you're supposed to pretend to care about?
I'm honestly confused about whether or not people around me are for real about these things. I don't know if I'm just working in a weird place, but everyone seems so sincere. All I want to do is hide and hope they don't think to email me about something.
Who cares?

Erlich Bachmann: Richard wrote the code, yes, but the inspiration was clear. Let me ask you something. How fast do you think you could jack off every guy in this room? Cause I know how long it would take me. And I could prove it.
Re: Who cares?
The answer for me is that I care passionately about a small circle of things in my life and majority of my time, thoughts and focus is put into these things. Every so often I add or subtract something from the circle...but I find that life is much richer when I put attention to these things I care about.
As for the periphery? It only causes distractions from what is truly important to me.
People love to advertise what is important to them and try to rally support for their cause. I choose not to. Nothing wrong with either method IMO, but we all have limited time on this earth and I believe time should be spent on that which we care about.

Re: Who cares?
Very little I care about outside of my family and health. Besides UA sports, but that's obvious.
Re: Who cares?
All I care about is attaining Black Belt status in the latest MBA technique.
But, seriously, the lone benefit to relentless downsizing is that we don't have time for that bullshit anymore.

Right where I want to be.
