Aaron Rodgers was that douche in college you had in your upper level humanities courses who thought he was smarter than the professor and wanted everyone to look at him every class so he argued constantly challenging known facts and making the class a slog. By the end of the semester you wanted to stab him in the face and then you spent the next semester avoiding him when he randomly popped up everywhere trying to chat you up because wasn’t that old geezer of a professor just the worst?
I hope he falls into an open manhole.

Did he ever graduate from Cal?
Why all know the dumb jock stereotype. Would would anyone listen to him about anything besides football?
He knows more than Fauci does?

I loved it that a guy named Butker, who is a kicker (a football position not known for how manly its participants are), and who may or may not have hooked up with dudes in college, tried to lecture men about leaning into their masculinity.
The call is coming from inside that immaculately decorated foyer Mr. Kicker.

Be interested to see how the Chargers do this year - they are probably the only NFL team I remotely follow; outside of where ex UA players are on.
I think Harbaugh is going to do wonders with Herbert

I can only think about how Kaepernick lost his whole career over his shit but this guy gets a free pass and we always hear that it's only conservatives that get cancelled

Where are all the people who told Lebron to shut up and dribble or Kaepernick to keep his politics out of the locker room? Why aren’t they telling Butker to shut up and kick?
Oh, because when an athlete’s opinions line up with theirs they get a free pass. Got it…

Wow. I knew he was college good, but never expected him to be NFL good.
Christian McCaffrey is giving the once-sagging running back market some hope as the 49ers star signed a two-year extension, the team announced Tuesday. The new deal is worth $38 million, CBS Sports lead NFL insider Jonathan Jones confirms
Listed as high risk of injury.

I was at the Patriots-Raiders playoff game in LA in 1985 (quietly rooting for NE, have several college friends from NH).
Some nice Pats fans sitting below us had shirts that said "I'm from Bah-stan". At some point Raiders fans started throwing crap at them. Security threw the Patriot fans out.

There's people speculating it was because he wore a patch supporting Lebanon during the game.
Woody Johnson is enough of an asshole that it could actually be true.

Both of Saleh's parents were born in Lebanon and immigrated to the United States ahead of his birth in 1979. Saleh previously wore the Lebanese flag on his arm during a game against the Giants, just weeks after Hamas terrorists attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.
Saleh wore that patch during the week that NFL executive vice president of club business Peter O'Reilly released a statement encouraging players to represent their heritage via decals to the back of their helmets with their flags, while coaches added a patch to their team gear.

I really hate since the time Cowboys when they were pushes ad "America's Team".
Hopefully the Lions won't choke again this season like they did last.

The Tom Landry era laid the groundwork for my Cowboy's hatred: The "America's Team" label (military fixation during Viet Nam War); "North Dallas Forty" reality; strict grooming requirements; and, of course, the JFK assassination....
Growing up as a Irish Catholic, ND fan, and following Paul Hornung to Green Bay (My first favorite pro team) also made the 'Boys natural enemies.
And, of course, the 21st Century has been an over-abundance of anti-Cowboy schadenfreude

LOL the Jets are a joke. How are people still doing that stupid “drop the ball before you reach the goal line” thing in this year of our lord 2024?

49ers drama is giving me life this morning.
Between Kyle Shanahan talk of being traded to the Bears just to get him out of town even though he’s brought them to multiple Super Bowls, Deebo Samuel demanding he get the ball thrown to him more and then dropping a red zone pass that hit him in the chest where he was wide open, Brock Purdy on the verge of a massive payday even though he’s turning out to not be more than just average and seemingly can’t play in the rain which is problematic in a place like San Francisco, and now their linebacker De’Vondre Campbell quitting in the middle of the game last night…
It warms this Rams fan’s heart.

I need to read up on this.
What is the NFL’s Free Kick Rule?

The fair catch free kick rule is an extremely rare one. What allows a kicker to attempt a field goal without the defense being able to rush the kick?

An obscure and very rarely used rule came into play at the end of the first half of the Week 16 Thursday Night Football game between the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos.
What is the rule that enabled Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker to hit a 57-yard field goal with no Broncos allowed to rush him?
What is the Free Kick After a Fair Catch Rule?
After a fair catch, a team is allowed to attempt a field goal from the spot of the foul. This very rarely comes into play because typically a team will want to go on offense after receiving the ball via punt or kickoff.
This field goal attempt differs from most in that the defense is not allowed to rush the kicker to try and block the kick. Thus, the play ends up looking very similar to the old kickoff prior to the 2024 kickoff rules.
However, most fair catches after a punt are too far back to realistically be able to try the kick, even without the threat of the kick being blocked. Prior to Dicker’s field goal, the last successful fair catch free kick was in 1976 by Ray Wersching — ironically of the San Diego Chargers — against the Buffalo Bills.
The last that was even attempted was in 2019 by the Carolina Panthers’ Joey Slye. His was no-good from 60 yards out against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Dicker’s kick was only 57 yards because the Broncos committed a 15-yard fair catch interference penalty. That moved the ball up from the Chargers’ 38-yard line (which would have been a 72-yard kick) to the Broncos’ 47-yard line.

Jerod Mayo gets fired after one year as Patriots coach but Brian Daboll is coming back for his 4th year at the helm of the Giants despite winning one less game this year and having a .363 winning percentage overall and I can’t qwhite put my finger on why one guy gets to keep coaching and the other has to hit the bricks.
Ah, the mysteries of the NFL…

But I have to point out that this is another instance of a minority head coach getting no leash at all. And this time from an owner who pretends to be an advocate.
