It's alright they're starting Jaquez for some reason who is now half man half machine and looks like he can barely jog
Re: Official Bracketology Thread
Well Peterson had zero points against us and it now looks like he's got his touch back. Always was tough against us in previous games. Oregon next week will be playing for their tourney lives. Expect a war.
Re: Official Bracketology Thread
KenPom projects AZ will go into postseason play with a 28-3 record.

Meanwhile Arizona didn’t just sweep on the road, they flat out embarrassed some fools.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Re: Official Bracketology Thread
Not only a sweep on the road, but a sweep of our in state rival that beat UCLA, and home wins against #3 and #17 (not anymore, but they were at the time)
We have gotten through our toughest starch with one loss, on the road. I'm impressed.
We struggled in a couple of those games, had injury stuff and shooting slumps and found ways to win.
Love this team.
Not sure how to refer to it, there's the Gordon year, the Stanley year, the ayton year.
Maybe I'll have to refer to it as the anomaly, like the agents referred to Neo in the matrix.

Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

If we do finish 28-3, how many Pac tourney wins would we need to lock up a #1? Guess it may be hard to say without knowing what other team are doing. Kentucky, Purdue, Baylor and Kansas all in the mix.

Re: Official Bracketology Thread
I think Gonzaga, auburn, Arizona are pretty much locked as #1s as long as they don't lose like 2-3 games more. All 3 will get a pass in conference tournaments if they lose there like every other year.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 6:12 pmIf we do finish 28-3, how many Pac tourney wins would we need to lock up a #1? Then it's between Kentucky, Purdue, Kansas for the last one.

* Arizona 29-2 = top two overall tournament seed
* Arizona 28-3 = guaranteed #1 seed
* Arizona 27-4 = almost guaranteed #1 seed
* Arizona 26-5 = #2 seed (this option is very unlikely i dont see AZ losing three more times)

By the way, gonna be really interesting if Gonzaga loses a game.
Re: Official Bracketology Thread
I don't worry about seeds. I worry about matchups. Their might be some bad matchups for us and we would definitely be a bad matchup for some teams. I don't want to play a team that feasts on TO's (Auburn).

Auburn scares me. Kessler can block and can protect down low. Jabari should be #1 pick and looks like Durant, he'd pick apart Tubelis or Terry because he's either too fast or too big.
Turnovers like you said. Pair of small quick scoring guards

Not a ton of top 10 action vs ranked teams this week. Time to lose was this past week if you were ranked
Tuesday:
N°10 Villanova @ N°8 Providence
N°4 Kentucky @ N°12 Tennessee
Wednesday:
N°7 Baylor @ N°11 Texas Tech
Saturday:
N°25 Alabama @ N°4 Kentucky
During the halftime of this game Bama-UK game the NCAA selection committee will release their first top 16 rankings

Yeah, it's looking more likely that SEC could have two #1s, provided Auburn and UK avoid any bad losses.
Most likely #1 line, as of this morning, is Gonzaga, Auburn, AZ, Kentucky.

Lunardi has duke being sent out to the west with the zags. I imagine because they're a weak 2 seed.
In fact Providence deserves Duke's 2 seed that they're only holding onto because of name recognition.

Re: Official Bracketology Thread
The Wildcats have more work to do. They came out slow as an unranked squad in week one. The Wildcats faithful don't like to hear the truth, but I told them "see you at Pauley" and sure enough, they lost to a UCLA team that itself wasn't even good enough to beat Arizona two weeks thereafter. I ask again: Who have they beaten? See you at the Galen Center!

Like I said, if we win the national title, this guy will have us unranked in the final poll of the season. He'll rationalize it by saying we haven't beaten anybody.

I just mean that Davis is no different from SO many others on our TVs every weekend. In all sports.
But Davis is especially bad.
Re: Official Bracketology Thread
I was looking at SI Bracketology I they had 3 PAC 12 teams in. One of them was in the bracket with Arizona. How screwed is that. As for Seth....we played UCLA at the end of a three game road trip and with a hobbled player. His "we will see you at Galen" will be the end of another three game road trip. Kentucky will not get past the next 4 games without a loss and if they do they will be very deserving of a 1 seed.

I really think the top 8 are almost locked in:
Gonzaga (#1 Lock)
Auburn
Arizona
Kansas
Kentucky
Purdue
Baylor
Duke
It's now just figuring out the other 3 #1s

Re: Official Bracketology Thread
That didn't take long. My prediction is Auburn and Kentucky will lose again. Lots of basketball remains. I predicted early on that AZ would have 4 losses. Still think that is probable. Rutgers will make the tourney.

The reg season SEC champ will be a #1 seed. It’ll most likely be Auburn.Alieberman wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 9:26 pm I really think the top 8 are almost locked in:

After tonight, I’d say Kentucky needs to win out, including the SEC tourney to get a #1.
Reg season Big 12 champ is likely to get a #1 seed, especially if Kansas or Baylor doesn’t drop another game.
The fourth #1 is Arizona’s, as long as no bad losses occur. Losing @USC wouldn’t be a bad loss.

If Gonzaga loses another reg season game, the top overall seed is back on the table for other teams. Mainly AZ and Auburn.

But that's reverse discrimination. It punishes strength of schedule. If Gonzaga, Arizona, and Auburn don't lose another game, it should be Auburn, Arizona, and Gonzaga in that order, though the committee wouldn't be wrong to put Arizona over Auburn if they find Arizona's margins of victory to comprise "the look of an overall #1 seed."Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 7:08 am If Gonzaga loses another reg season game, the top overall seed is back on the table for other teams. Gonzaga has been so good, for so long, and beaten so many blue bloods (including a shellacking of UCLA this year) that they’ve transcended the “mid-major” label and their strength of schedule and the strength of their conference no longer comes into play when talking about seeding in the tournament.Longhorned wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 7:13 amBut that's reverse discrimination. i agree with what you posted above, incapsulates my opinion as of this morning. my thought is starting to drift to the real possibility now that AZ could go undefeated the rest of the way.............then i continue to drift further and think AZ could actually run the table and win it all.
then i realize, 35-2.......um, part of me doesnt want to think of the consequences of such a glorious and incredibly amazing outcome, so i drift back to a realer option.
28-3 to end the season and a #1 seed South Region

OT, but speaking of volatility in following basketball, I'd like to see the vitals of a coach in a game like UofA vs Tenn. as opposed to that of a fan in the stands. A heart rate and BP readout during an intense game would make for a good sports article.

That's fair. And I agree with subjective decisions on the part of the committee. But it is what it is: the opposite of the bias that used to hinder Gonzaga. Now, it's a hurdle for somebody in the SEC to clear, and a pass for Gonzaga.Chicat wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 7:47 amGonzaga has been so good, for so long, and beaten so many blue bloods (including a shellacking of UCLA this year) that they’ve transcended the “mid-major” label and their strength of schedule and the strength of their conference no longer comes into play when talking about seeding in the tournament.Longhorned wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 7:13 amBut that's reverse discrimination.
