Every alternative lifestyle imaginable on Capitol Hill, where the university is located. And the Catholics are of the social justice/Jesuit variety.
Plopping DW99 there would make for a fascinating reality show.
Right where I want to be.

dw99 would be like a bewildered animal in Seattle. would be a glimpse back to the beginning of humanity and our ancestors learning to use speech and tools for the first time.
Re: Why I Own The World
dw99 would adapt. He's grow his hair long, wear his ASSu cap backwards, and buy some Crocs. He'd fit right in.
On a side note. I checked out some pics of SU's campus. Beautiful place.

Presentation to management. Quite the crowd showed up to hear the status on a number of project-taskings. Knocked it out of the Park.

I share an office with 3 other people. One guy quit a couple of weeks ago and hasn't been replaced yet, and the other 2 are off today. I've got the office to myself. It's really quiet. Love it.

Re: Why I Own The World
Congratulations! Last chance to establish the "no gifts throughout this lifetime" agreement. It keeps things romantic because there's nothing to mark and track how unromantic it's become between that bracelet in year one, that supposedly luxurious bathrobe in year six, and the bathroom scale in year 12 (i.e., "you're fat"). Unless you keep buying a bracelet every year, in which case it's death by lack of imagination.

It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:

Re: Why I Own The World
Time to get this thread back on track, with us asshats bragging about ourselves.
I own the world (at the moment) because I'm in a position to raise my son the way I want, experiencing what the world has to offer and really trying to understand other cultures. Last night we were walking through the Manama souq in Bahrain, smelling spices, eating shawarma in hand made bread, looking at gold markets and soaking in the atmosphere. Last week we were taking photos at the top of Kingdom Tower in Riyadh and visited Old Diriyah, a UNESCO world heritage site. In June he and my wife will visit family in Russia, in July I will meet them in Greece for holiday in Athens, Sparta and Nafplio. In September we will visit Wadi Rum, Petra and Aqaba in Jordan. In December we will go skiing in Austria, visit Santa Claus village in Rovaniemi Finland and ring in the new year in Paris. My son is 6 years old and speaks English and Russian fluently, is being tutored in Mandarin and learns Arabic in school.
I am a firm believer in what Mark Twain said - travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.

Re: Why I Own The World
I've served a 15-year tour of duty in the hallowed halls of this old law firm primarily as a dirt lawyer doing complex real estate transactions.
Today I was offered an in-house counsel position at a private financial institution that makes multi-million dollar commercial real estate loans all over the country. They're killing it. Suffice it to say the work is squarely within my wheelhouse. Progressive modern outfit. 30% base salary increase off the bat. Killer bonus structure equal to 25% of salary. Stock plan. Better benefits. Excellent future upside potential. Flip flop and shorts work culture. No more clients. No more billable hours. I'll say that again, no more billable hours. I've wanted this for a very long time. It's a game-changer for me.
So pumped to post in this thread and share it with you guys.

And now to brag about my own enormous success, I've just been invited to give an endowed lecture at the University of Oregon. They're flying me out to Eugene economy class and putting me up at a nationally recognized chain hotel. Thank you. Thank you in the back row. I'm humbled. You're all too kind.

Re: Why I Own The World
None of what I'm about to say ultimately means anything without continued work and some time, but...
I recently entered into a non-educational consultation career. I'll say what/whom later when it matters.
I've done solid out of the gate. I've brought several accounts back from the edge, and have opened lines of communication as well as accounts with several others.
I am in the midst of training and recently was approached by the Territory Coordinator and Market Trainer with the basic gist of the following.
These two very powerful men have spotted I have unlimited potential in this industry. They each will work to both help me and, as much as they can, fast track my career. They have identified my abilities to engage and teach and think I'm a future coordinator, with one, whom happens to be the son of the president of the company, saying I can be where he is within 5 years.
These two men make 7-figures yearly. It will take at least two years before I'll know if they are even close to being right. But the Territory Director said his job now is to make sure I have everything I need to stay and succeed with the company.
I have high hopes but after getting burned in the past, I'm keeping things realistic and level.
But these are two of the 20 most influential men in the company and each went out of their way to meet me, meet with me, and pry into my mindset and outlook for this career. They looked me in the eyes, shook my hand, and gave me their direct contact information.
I'm just getting started, but with my ambition, with my skills, there's no reason I can't be what they see in me.
But like all my posts in this thread, it may all be bullshit.
Stay tuned...

Within the company they disclose the salaries of their top execs.Longhorned wrote:Still, great start, JMark. Geez, I can't even get anybody to respond to my emails.
The Territory Coodinator makes 1.8 million yearly.
The Market Trainer makes 1.2 million yearly, travels via private jet to train new consultants around the country.
The latter specifically said he sees me as someone who belongs in his job. Said part of his job is to identify the special talent and move their name up the ladder to ensure they have every tool and opportunity to succeed.
Like I said, it probably all hyperbole and something they say to said identified talent. Maybe they meant the words they said, but even if they just meant the spirit of what they were saying, it's still a short-term win, for sure, if even just a moral victory for now. It's all on me to work hard, learn, and continue to impress.
