46 Days Matt Dudek

Today is an open roster spot, so I'll look at a guy who had a pretty good day yesterday.

Dudek is a 5-7, 200+, ball of energy Recruiting Director, from McKeesport, PA. My plan was to try and avoid posts on the staff in the countdown this year, but I changed my mind after Dudek's hat trick + 2 in recruiting yesterday.

Dudek has a very interesting background. He used to work for a large crane rental company. After doing some work with the Pitt football team, former Coach Wannstedt talked him into switching careers and joining his football staff. Dudek eventually became the Director of Recruiting for Pitt where he crossed paths with Coaches Magee, Dews, and Caponi. When Coach Rod put the band back together in Tucson, he brought Matt Dudek west to handle PR.

Dudek has helped move Wildcat recruiting into national prominence. He uses videos and social media along with every other trick in a recruiters bag to promote Arizona Football and reach the players Arizona is targeting. Dudek and the Video Gurus have been recognized nationally for their innovation and effectiveness at not only reaching potential players, but also the fan base. A #OnToTheNextOne tweet or 5 can bring sunshine to the cloudiest Tucson day.

I don't want to oversell Dudek. Recruiting at Arizona is a total staff effort and the coaches are the prime recruiters on individual players, but Dudek is the guy who helps the coaches maximize their visits and he is also in charge of all the campus visits. If you have watched one of Dudek's signing day events, you know how he has worked hard to develop a personal relationship with not only every recruit, but also their families.

46 is also the most turnovers an Arizona team has recovered in a season. It wasn't the Desert Swarm, but the 1954 team had 20 interceptions, recovered 24 fumbles, along with 2 blocked kicks. The most forced fumbles in a season by an individual player is not tracked in the media guide, but it could be held by Scooby who had 6 last year.

Schiano better stay the fuck away. Dudek is huge for Arizona recruiting and is a big reason we're having success this year.

Yep. I love how much food they incorporate into recruiting events and practices. I don't remember which game it was before last year, but I remember RichRod brought over an ice cream truck after practice and brushfire BBQ catered afterwards.

Pretty sure I've heard Dudek say he has no desire to be a position coach. Loves the recruiting side.

Also really like the thought that Dudek would make it more personal recruiting against ASU given CTG fired Dudek at Pitt. I want that to be true... Makes me feel better believing that.

Matt Dudek secretly wants to be that NFL GM someday but knows "there's only 32" of those jobs. Being an AD wouldn't be bad but, "I don't want to go to a women's tennis match the day of the Super Bowl."

But before he moves on he has something he wants to add to his resume while at Arizona:

"We're going to do something that no other University of Arizona team has done before," Dudek proclaimed. "That is, get in the Rose Bowl and get in the hunt of the national championship."

I'm not sure if it is the responsibility of the Coach Rod, the AD, private donors, or their own wives, but it is time. These guys have had a tremendous month and someone needs to make sure they get lei'd.

I'll add this guy too.

Michalczik involved with the Eletise recruitment especially late talks with Eletise to commit to AZ. Michalczik has his hand in multiple 2016 commits as well. He has had many former OL players get drafted over the years and will be more from AZ in the future.

Just dropping some props his way. Don't hear much about him.

Whats your deal with Dudek?

I have a wild name for a potential coach if RR leaves/is let go. No experience in the college game, but is fairly young and a great X's and O's guy, very good at adapting to changes, and I think has the personality to recruit well, just doesn't have the knowledge or experience of doing so yet. But this isn't my blog.............

Maybe not a popular opinion but I have wondered about Dudeks' value for last couple years now. At least can be up to debate on his value to UA staff. Recruiting is not any better than under Stoops era, maybe collectively worse (I'll call it a tie).
Dudek has never been a coach
On the record he doesn't want to be a coach
Assume he is not an expert in player evals or development
Was initially hired to be on-campus recruiting coordinator and Pitch-man for recruiting news
UA hired a former Michigan player/recruiting coordinator to fill Dudek's position
Dudek promoted
Don't hear much from him or his pitches last year plus.

Results in recruiting and achievements have been mediocre to poor. That can stir a debate about value imo.

I see where you are coming from. To me Dudek was the guy to close him in when they visiting or making final decisions. If you don't bring him good guys, he cant do much.

The program is in trouble because the recruiting coordinator is getting offers from a football blue blood and top 5 program.

It is a compliment if Michigan is trying to steal any of our staff! Good luck to Matty D if he decides to leave. Better program, more money, and closer to his home and family. Pretty no brainer decision in the world of football.

The only problem I see, is that someone is giving non-public information to Chief who instantly gets his panties twisted and needs attention because he might know a secret. I thought I was done with that shit when my daughter left junior high school. Whoever is talking to Chief needs the counseling Book Richardson received.

LOL! You missed the whole point. The selling of Hard Edge and OKG is a sham and always has been. RR is a sham and steals millions from a good school. I'm happy for Dudek. Another rat saved from a sinking ship. As far as info is concerned....who fucking cares....there are no surprises or excitement happening with this football program. You should see that while you post your count down of mostly walk one and irrelevant players who wouldn't see the field for Oregon State. It's time for a change in direction. Dudek apparently isn't the only loss this week. I heard there might be a transfer. I told you about the abandon ship siren. Most of of the media and myself was told about Dudek weeks ago. Everyone was told to be silent because we were all awaiting word from Michigan.
