I was at the vtech cal game in 2003 as well. I was in the left field bleacher seats which was one of the end zones. Game winning fg landed in thr row behind me. It wasn't that bad watching the game there.

Only way I see this is if Washington loses. Pac 12 gets 2 new years bowl and cactus selects us over a cal team with a fanbase that might travel after not going bowling in a while. Hard to see it all happening.azgreg wrote:I'm having a hard time believing that Arizona will be in any of the Pac-12 contractual bowls.
Re: 2015 Bowl projections
With Utah losing to UCLA last week I don't see the PAC 12 getting 2 ny6 teams. Oregon would hav3 the best chance with 3 losses some coming without Adams. Only of a miracle can happen and Stanford gets to the playoffs.

Re: 2015 Bowl projections
It would be a big jump from 23rd in the last CFP poll. But maybe Stanford winning out and that Oregon win counting for a lot plus some big loses in front of them? Idk just throwing it out there as the rationale for some of the picks having them playing a NY6.azgreg wrote:I don't see Whoregon getting into the top 10.PHXCATS wrote:With Utah losing to UCLA last week I don't see the PAC 12 getting 2 ny6 teams. I was thinking of the locals in Southern AZ........which is where most of the fan base resides. Even the poorly timed, freezing Copper Bowl pulled in 35,000+ local fans. You won't get 35,000 UA fans at the Independence Bowl.ASUHATER! wrote:Not really for the fans. 530 game on a Tuesday between holidays and not on tv.dmjcat wrote:My prediction: History repeats itself and we stay home and play in the Arizona Bowl.....much like we played in the Copper Bowl.

I guess one factor is dependent on ODU playing for its sixth win this weekend for the Az bowl. It is live on...the American Sports Network this weekend.
I imagine a local deal would be worked out with an RSN of some type for Uofa.

"One of the things I'm trying to push is can we get an agreement done sooner rather than later," Byrne said Tuesday on his weekly appearance on 1290-AM (KCUB).
Byrne mentioned three bowls:
--The Heart of Dallas Bowl (Dec. 26)
--The Armed Forces Bowl (Dec. 29)
--The Texas Bowl (Dec. 29, in Houston)
Note that only one of those has been mentioned in prominent bowl projections.
"I think all three are possibilities," Byrne said. "I think there's an outside chance for Shreveport again and Memphis as a real long-shot."
Re: 2015 Bowl projections
Looks like he is pushing a Texas bowl hard then. Heart of Dallas bowl is in the cotton bowl I believe and the armed forces bowl is in tcu's stadium in fort worth. If we played in one of the three Texas bowls, we'd probably be playing a big 10, big 12 or sec team.

Bowl-eligible Cal might need another win to actually become bowl-eligible
http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.co ... -eligible/
Following a Week 10 win over Oregon State, Cal won its sixth game of the season and became bowl-eligible… or did they?
Cal opened the 2015 season against FCS Grambling State, a win that is supposed to count toward the six needed for bowl eligibility. According to USA Today, however, a scholarship issue on Grambling’s side could lead to the win not counting for Cal’s bowl eligibility.
More to the point, Cal has already requested a waiver from the NCAA that would allow for the win to count toward bowl eligibility regardless of the scholarship accounting that’s currently ongoing. From Steve Berkowitz‘s USA Today report:
Grambling is a Football Championship Subdivision School, and Cal athletics spokesman Wes Mallette told USA TODAY Sports that the request was made because Grambling officials are trying to determine whether the school has awarded a sufficient amount of financial aid to football players for the game to count without a waiver.
Under NCAA rules, FBS schools generally can count one win against an FCS team per season toward the six needed for bowl eligibility. However, for the game to count without a waiver, the FCS school needs to have awarded — on average — at least 90% of the 63 scholarships allowed under FCS rules during a rolling two-year period.

Yes absolutely. All 6-6 teams go before anyone else. I personally don't think losing teams should be in. Some 9-3 ranked fcs team should be in a bowl before a 5-7 team.

As of this morning there are 75 teams with 6 or more wins (I did not look to see if anyone had more than 1 FCS win) and 12 5-7 teams. There are still two 5 win teams with one more game remaining.
Re: 2015 Bowl projections
I count 3 teams with 5 wins and 1 game left. South Alabama, Georgia state and Kansas state.
There were plenty of 5 win teams a week ago to fill all the bowl spots if they won. Just nearly every 5 win team lost this week. Nebraska, Minnesota, east Carolina, Florida Atlantic, old dominion, buffalo, Kentucky, Missouri and San Jose state were all 5-6 going into this weekend and needed to win to become eligible and they all lost.
But because those 9 teams lost, it's looking pretty good that there will be like 3 5-7 teams in bowls. Most likely will be teams like Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri or Kentucky.

Re: 2015 Bowl projections
It will be on TV, just not ESPN. Remember UPN? It is now MyTV which airs the American Sports Network which is C-USA's TV partner. It broadcasts HD over-the-air (KTTU ch. 18 Tucson/KUTP ch.45 Phx.)which mean if your providers carries local stations it is probably already there. I read the national feed is also apart of the DTV and Dish sports pack, but I don't know for sure.ASUHATER! wrote:Not really for the fans. 530 game on a Tuesday between holidays and not on tv.dmjcat wrote:My prediction: History repeats itself and we stay home and play in the Arizona Bowl.....much like we played in the Copper Bowl.

It is a weird set up, and terrible branding. It airs on either MyTV or the CW or both depending of market, but games are listed as being on the American Sports Network... which appears nowhere on anyone's station list. Unless you knew what it's affiliate station was, you'd never find it.
