Yeah, those academic jobs are a real bitch about that. Whenever I see a job posting with a salary figure followed by 'pro rata', I run. :-)

god damn it. My fiancee's birthday is next weekend and about 10 weeks ago I decided to do a repeat of her bday last year and rent a cabin in Greer. Awesome. Perfect getaway for a 3 day weekend. This time we decided to make it more fun by inviting about half a dozen other people and make a real blowout in the mountains. I got everyones' commitments in mid May for how much it would cost them to reimburse me for their portion of the cabin and the trip. Great!

EarlyJune comes...no one has paid me anything...they say they will. Wouldn't miss it for the world! Late June comes...2 people have paid me or paid me in equivalent cost items (thanks ASUHATER). July comes...nothing...fiancee is asking them and they assure her they are still coming but just don't have the money. Keep in mind I have never had problems with sorting out money or who owes who in the past. Things have always been easy and squared away.

Now mid July hits and 2 of them bail because they are suddenly moving that weekend. After saying they would come for the last 10 weeks and would pay me $130. Now today 9 days before the trip a third person says that they HAVEN'T EVEN ASKED FOR THE TIME OFF FROM WORK YET!

So that's a no. Now my fiancee's birthday trip has been reduced to 4 people. If I had known this all along I would've just booked a trip for the 2 of us alone like last year. I'm really pissed I shelled out the money after receiving commitments from people only to have them bail and not even think about offering me money to make up for it. So mad. More mad they are ditching her on her bday then about the money but still.

Venting over.

That's a pretty standard experience with people. Which is why it actually doesn't make it more fun by inviting about half a dozen other people. I say, keep life small and simple.

I learned that lesson hard for the wedding reception for me and my wife. Not a single non-family member showed except for a 90-year-old ex-neighbor of hers and azcat49 (You the man!).

To this day, I still don't talk to my first friend from elementary school because he said he'd not only come, but send a care package and a card. Nothing.

People bail on their friends. When in doubt, follow this--and be pleasantly surprised by anything more.

so the fiancee lives in a house that is split into a 2 units...a front unit and a rear unit (hers). the mail boxes on the street are clearly marked with her's being listed as the rear unit. all mail and packages addressed to her show the rear unit on the address. yet the post office still delivers about 70% of her mail and packages to her neighbor's box in the front unit. why is this so hard for the post office to understand? you have a 50/50 shot even and still get it wrong the majority of the time (even with the addresses and boxes clearly marked).

Just put up a "Deliveries in Rear" sign, then the packages won't end up in your neighbor's box.

My neighbor keeps mowing like 3 feet of my lawn along our property line. I even put a stake in the back corner of our property line and this morning I go out there and he's mowed his lawn in this ragged curve that swoops well onto my lawn and then back out to meet the stake. So now our property line looks like a crescent moon. As if for some reason the county surveyor got drunk and decided straight lines were not necessary.

My wife doesn't get why this chaps my ass so much, but the guy cuts his lawn like every five days and scalps it down to US Open putting green length. He also keeps hitting my sprinkler heads along the property line and eventually he's going to knock one or two enough that they'll break and I'll have to replace them.

And it's MY FUCKING LAWN! If I want to let it grow until it's up around my fucking eyeballs, that's MY FUCKING CHOICE! Why this dipshit doesn't realize that my mailbox and electrical junction box can't possibly be on his property, I have no idea. And why the fuck is he mowing 5 times a month? I don't want my fucking lawn scalped!

Feels silly typing all that out. About as silly as when I complain about it to my wife. But it just bugs the shit out of me. I want to talk to the guy but he's literally never home. I've knocked three times now with the intention of nicely telling him it's not necessary to include half my fucking property in his bi-weekly lawn scalpings, but he's never answered. And every time I go to mow to reestablish the property line I see he's beaten me to it by less than a day. Ugh...

One of my duties at work is to deal with new revisions on customer's blueprints. Usually I get a ECO (Engineering Change Order) with the new revision. Today however I received a new blueprint without the ECO. normally it's no big deal, I just compare the blueprints and point out the differences. The one I got today is a 20 page blueprint encompassing 709 dash numbers and it's taking forfuckingever. Honeywell can be such assholes sometimes.

She just had a baby so I'm going to have to wait until that shit tightens back up.

And now I realize why he cuts his lawn so often. He's probably trying to get out of conversations about breast feeding and changing diapers.

Despite her being the one who had a mental breakdown over her personal issues and then passive-aggresively interacting with my wife and I, doing the best to take care of our 4wk old infant.

Fuck her. But then again, I made the mistake of thinking I'm dealing with a rational adult who has insight into their own behavior and mutual respect for others with opinions different than her own, and not a nearly 30yo child who never progressed past 16 in attitude, coping, and life skills.

This is going to make the upcoming baptism a blast, let me tell you...

And then my mom wonder's why I'll never move back to Arizona (she's complicit too in that decision, for other unrelated reasons)...

Its funny to look back and acknowledge that I didn't have the best relationship with my dad as a child, but now he's one of my best friends. And now that I am adult, I completely understand.

rant off.

I am open to any advice in this situation. I have called and left a VM to again "talk about what happened" and hopefully move forward on a more positive note, but now she is doing what she does: "turtle-ing" and refusing to respond. Then when I actually get ahold of her she'll say something like "Oh its fine, I'm over it".

Apparently passive-aggresive millenials only use text to talk about serious issues. I draw the line. I won't.

Now she texts:

"I got your voicemail and I'm past what happened a year ago, I have no ill will towards anyone, all I'm saying is i'm not going to put myself in a similar situation. It's the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over to get different results"

Cool...my ASU educated sibling misquoted Albert Einstein to defer talking about something that is still an issue. So passive-aggressive. I know I can't change her and she is entitled to live with any perceived grudges that she may have, but I feel she is missing the point and I feel disrespected by her response.

On a more positive note, I do want to give big ups to my dad for being the first to send my daughter a birthday card for her 1st year. Out of both sides of the family, I DIDN'T expect that.

I know this is a small deal but I am renting a car in Kansas City next week for a family reunion. $4/day for a Downtown Arena Fee. I am paying $144 for the car and $100 in fees and taxes. It was the same bs in San Antonio a few years ago. So much for low taxes.

I'm never buying a house in a flood zone again that's for sure. Just got my escrow statement for 2016 and lo and behold my mortgage payment is going up by $180/month. There goes my upcoming raise that I was planning on using for other shit. My flood insurance premium (for my house that's in the middle of Tucson) is almost $1600 a fucking year now. That's less than the principal I am paying off on the house per year.

fuck that was a terrible investment to have made 11 years ago. we've pissed away tens of thousands of dollars for no return whatsoever.

The Arizona clubhouse on ESPN is now just a twitter feed. Takes scrolling through 100 tweets to find one story.

ESPN about the worst redesign, but they aren't the only recent violators.

-LinkedIn removed a very useful statistical feature that broke down as a pie graph a number of your contact's identifiers.
-Google Maps removed a sub-map windows that made navigation so much more intuitive. They also removed the dating of their street-view images, so now you have little idea whether you're looking at a property from 2010 or 2015.
-Scout.com recruiting changed how they display scholarship offers on the player profiles and it's not so easy to sort through now (but they did fix their updated commit tracker and its still the best among the major recruiting sites)
-Stubhub might be the most aggravating in the way they changed around how to sort through ticket listing according to sport (MLB, NBA, college, etc) and teams. The now horrible menu navigation forces you to use their finicky search engine.

Nearly everything about ESPN sucks now. Trash website, and commentators not even in the building. Correct me if I am wrong, but the game last night in Corvallis was being commentated from Bristol, and it sounded worse than a skype conversation over bad wifi.

I see ESPN as the once good girlfriend now gone useless. She was once very good to us, gave us our fix, got us stuff other (channels) couldn't and now that we've allowed her to have vast-majority stake the ways we are treated well and get our fix she can now do a careless job because, well, we're stuck with her now. :) :?

Yes. I find it much less appealing. Seems to be about letting viewers watch the new chicks do stand-ups in the latest fashions, coupled with endless Break-It-Down sessions and promos.

"Here's 13 reasons you don't watch to miss the segment, which has video you won't believe."

In two years, it will be televised Buzzfeed.

Meanwhile the flight attendants are totally slow rolling his drinks so he doesn't get so sloshed they have to carry him off the plane.

Alieberman - "Where is that damn drink?"

Flight Attendant 1 to Flight Attendant 2 - "If that guy in 3A tells me to 'bear down and get me another mimosa, honey' one more time I'm going to tell Phil to land us in Des Moines and I'm going to sic the air marshalls on his drunk ass."

Flight Attendant 2 to Flight Attendant 1 - "Here, just give him this. It's Orangina. He'll never know the difference."

Whenever back out West or in the Great Lakes or Gulf Coast region I right away notice how slowly everything operates. Rental car lines, hotel check-ins, pedestrian foot traffic, etc. Fortunately for me it only takes a few moments to adjust back to the more mellow mentality. However, living out east the past 3 years, I've definitely picked up the east coast, New York impatience, though it never comes out because there's usually some bigger jackass from Long Island or Philadelphia who wastes no time losing his/her temper on behalf of the rest of us stuck in slow lines or lanes.

Our east coast housing prices are vastly over priced, everywhere between DC & Boston is overcrowded, the weather is crap, and our traffic is a nightmare - so yes, lot's of endless anger pent up along the eastern seaboard.
