JJ said who was starting tomorrow at the post-game press conference but I couldn't make it out. Sounded like he said Jake Arrieta but there is not picture named that...guessing it will be JC...only pitchers name that starts with a J.

Anybody catch the ESPNU show about the 84 & 85 MSU teams? Four major leaguers (Clark, Palmeiro, Thigpen, Brantley). Only one trip to Omaha, but lost a game short when their pitcher took one off the leg when they had won the first two games, and then the next game a walkoff homer after they went ahead on a grand slam.

What a huge get...with a short deck of a staff, we roll out a closer/spot starter and grab all but 3 pitches off his arm and get the W vs their ace. Full staff to deal the remainder, and we can play ace in the hole (ok, enough card references).

And you cannot say we have played anywhere near our best offensively. In fact, we have been pretty rough in situational hitting. We haven't scored a run in the final 3 innings since the regular season, and our bunting has gone south. We haven't played small ball effectively, and we were inches away from that GWRBI double bouncing into the stands and stranding the runner on 3rd. Our defense has been exceptional, and our pitching other-worldly. But our vaunted offense has been sputtering, and even in the games we have scored in, we have scored early and not been able to put together insurance runs for long stretches.

And if we put our offense back together with the staff we have left? What a season. It wouldn't be a shock for MSU to win 2 in a row at home...at all. They are one of the best offenses in the country, have 7 regular players hitting .300 or over. They score 6.5 runs a game. Blah, blah. Really, winning two in a row at home is not a crazy impossibility. But we have every advantage we could possibly have hoped for going into game 2. I mean, shit...we could legitimately hold Bannister (I think we will) for what turns out to be game one of the CWS.

What a start to the JJ era. We may need to pay him sooner rather than later.

Impressive win considering Starkville is a tough place to play - great friggin atmosphere for College baseball btw.

Tough to duplicate last nights pitching performance so I sure hope the bats wake up as we need to pounce on them now while they are down. Hate to have to play a 3rd game in that place.

What a great job by JJ this year.

Shout out to Lopes as well. Most of these guys are his that came off that championship season. Maybe a little late in developing but the talent was there no doubt.

Great job by both coaches. We have a great great heritage in baseball. Time to make another mark in history. Today!

Man I was hoping JJ would throw the kitchen sink at MSU today and save Bannister for Sunday if needed.

If we were to win today Bannister would be fresher than fresh for the CWS.

Oh well.

Expect MSU to put some runs on the board today. They will come out swinging after being shutout yesterday.

In truth I expect there to be a game three.

Bannister is going to throw darts on the edges today. Kind of interesting that he was a 28th round selection of Seattle and they took football player Trey Griffey in the 24th and he hasn't played baseball in 10 years.

I think Bannister will be even more motivated and I expect another great performance by him.and our cats

Holy smokes 49,

MSU ace Hudson goes in the 1st round. Kevin Ginkel goes in the 24th and our ace Bannister goes in the 28th. Amazing.

I really don't think we win today because of MSU talent and the revenge factor so that is why I wanted to save Bannister. But he may in-fact be highly motivated and pull a Dalbec today.

We can hope!
