Re: 2016-2017 Arizona Basketball
There are times we wonder if the national pundits are paying attention.
And then there are times when they make it clear...perfectly clear...they didn't watch us at all
Myron Metcalf on ESPN talking about his 0-4 weekend picks a couple weeks ago, and making excuses for how crazy things happened to make his "hard picks" because he won't pick easy ones, all fall apart...
...and his Texas A&M vs Arizona pick loss has this incredible explanation:
A. Late run. Helped ARIZONA? Beat A&M?
If by late run, you mean we hit a free throw after a 22 point lead was cut to one possession? Is that how he would back out of that statement?
The dude absolutely did not watch the game. He read an article, read about the late run, saw we won, and got it mixed up in his head, because who the fuck can handle researching FOUR WHOLE GAMES?

0-4. Missed every pick. Or ... just four picks from a perfect weekend. It’s all about perspective.
But look at that wacky weekend again. Malik Monk scored 47 in a win over North Carolina. A late run helped Arizona overcome Texas A&M. Notre Dame had a 14-point lead at halftime but lost to Purdue. And we knew Indiana and Butler would battle in a tight game. We just flipped the teams.

Re: 2016-2017 Arizona Basketball
I mean, I suppose we did end the game on a 2-0 run over the last 15 seconds.
After an 18-0 TAMU run cut the lead from 65-45 to 65-63.
but, technically, yes...we powered through late with that 2-0 run on Alkin's FTs.

So what was up with Pinder last night? He played very little. Given the foul situation and having only 8 bodies you would think he would get 20 minutes or so. Hardly played

Pinder's minutes in general are going to take a hit with each wing who returns.

You're missing Trier. How is that half a roster? You have more post depth than most teams and are still loaded at the guard position. You also have a lot of returning experience. - PJC has been out for 4 weeks
- Ray Smith, who was supposed to be a key contributor this year, had to retire due to yet another knee injury
- Terrance Ferguson a 5 star stud recruit decided to play for pay instead of playing college ball
- Kadeem Allen missed a few games with an injury
- Chance Comanche missed a few games due to academic problems
- Trier, our best returning player, hasn't played a minute this year

Ray Smith retired. He's not technically a player you are missing, as you never had him.
Kadeem and Comanche are meh. Kadeem is a miss, but Comanche isn't. You still have Ristic and Lauri and that Pinder guy.

Enfuego, Ray Smith was a starter going into this season, PJC was the starting point guard out since November until back up minutes yesterday, and Trier hasn't played a minute yet. If you watch Arizona's pre-season intrasquad scrimmage and post all the time on an Arizona fan site, then you're not allowed to not know these obvious facts.

All of that said, Arizona is guard heavy and has a decent post rotation (Ristic/Lauri/Pinder/Chase) and is a legit Sweet 16 team. You can boo hoo all you want about what could have been, or you can be realistic about what you're playing with now. KU goes two deep in the post with Azubuike out for the season and we're title contenders.

Re: 2016-2017 Arizona Basketball
Absolutely. And Pinder is at his best against less talented or old-school fours who don't stretch the floor. Rabb would drag Pinder way too far from the rim for comfort. Rabb isn't the quickest but he's too quick for Pinder if he puts the ball on the floor out there. There's certainly a ton of fours who Chance can't guard but he stands a decent chance against Rabb's size. Otherwise, Rabb is a nightmare to defend, and downright unguardable at mid-range when he's feeling it, and when that happens it doesn't matter who's guarding him. Anyway you slice it, Ristic is useless against Rabb, who exposes the defensive limitations of true low-post center in the college game.ChooChooCat wrote:Just curious why you think Pinder wouldn't have been good on Rabb this game. I can't believe that I actually told someone early last season that I'd rather have a senior Ryan Anderson than a freshman Ivan Rabb. What an idiot.
I'd still take a sophomore Markannen over a freshman Rabb, though. By conference tourney time, I don't think there will be many who disagree with that.

Lumping in Ray Smith with Ferguson is exactly like your wins as "technical losses" posts. Ray Smith is on the 2016-17 roster to this day. He blew his knee out in a pre-season scrimmage, and he's a huge loss to his team.enfuego wrote:I understand Ray Smith and Ferguson, but neither ever played for Arizona this year, so I don't count them as losses. I did read your post. In the initial post that got you responding, rgdeuce wrote, "Miller should be at the top of National COTY lists so far." You believe that this team should be expected to be where it is now in spite of Miller having to coach through losing his marquee player, his starting 3, his starting point guard for a month, and having to tape over the 1 and the 3 with with shooting guards and a 7-foot power forward playing out of position. Whereas rgdeuce's post is explicitly about Miller's coaching to date, you're stepping outside of the "so far" moment and placing a Sweet 16 ceiling on Arizona. Do I have that right?enfuego wrote:I guess you didn't read my post. Let me put it this way: with what you have, you are performing as expected and your ceiling will be Sweet 16. I don't think Trier will play one game this season, either.Longhorned wrote:Enfuego, Ray Smith was a starter going into this season, PJC was the starting point guard out since November until back up minutes yesterday, and Trier hasn't played a minute yet.

You can't miss what you never had.luteformayor2 wrote:You idiot.enfuego wrote:You're missing Trier. How is that half a roster? You have more post depth than most teams and are still loaded at the guard position. You also have a lot of returning experience. Hardly "half a roster".ASUHATER! wrote:12-2 and doing well despite having half a roster.enfuego wrote:Why exactly?rgdeuce wrote:Indeed. Love this team. Miller should be at the top of National COTY lists so far.
Players we are still missing from the presumptive roster as of last spring
- Trier
- Ray Smith
- T Ferguson
- Justin Simon

Geez enfuego what a troll you are now....smh. If you are going to act like a dbag, go play on your own site.
Usually I like having fans of other sites over here (even you)....and the KU scout site is huge and I have a lot of admiration for the amount of traffic....but if you are just looking to pick fights over things like this post, GTFO and don't let the door hit you on the way out.
PS. I'd likely get banned for posting something obnoxious like this over at your site.....
PSS. I would agree though that Justin Simon is a stretch as he bolted long ago and we had time to prepare for that but the other 3 were definitely unexpected losses.
