UCLA's adj defense now ranks 77th on kenpom, a testament to what a great coach Alford is. That shit aint gonna get it done in March.

They're a good team, but I have trouble seeing them going deep. Every good team they face puts up a lot of points. Texas aTm went off on them too and KY put up 90+. In a tourney setting, you just can't be weak like that.rgdeuce wrote:UCLA's adj defense now ranks 77th on kenpom, a testament to what a great coach Alford is. That loss is amazing dirtbags.......Romar may be an excellent recruiter and a great guy but he really under-performs as a Coach! I'm pretty sure this board is older than everyone thinks. A lot of us are from the rivals board and had been lurking or posting there for 5-10 even 12 years.

Re: Pac-12 game thread
I think they might be able to do better. UW isn't that bad a job. If you can keep Seattle kids home and steal some Cali recruits, you're in a decent spot talent wise. Not a high pressure job, as evidenced by Romar's recent results not leading to being fired.rgdeuce wrote:Romar is the best Washington is going to get.
Romar is the Jeff Fisher of the Pac. Rarely bad, rarely that good. Always showing enough to stay employed, but not a whole lot more.
Re: Pac-12 game thread
I agree. Would be hard for UW to ever become an Arizona or UCLA...but it can easily vie with oregon to be the 3rd best job in the conference. If they just recruit Seattle and Portland and Northern California well, that's enough to be very talented right there.Spaceman Spiff wrote:I think they might be able to do better. Re: Pac-12 game thread
Pre-Lute, AZ was not a premier program. So while Lute Olsons are rare, they do come along every so often. If a guy like that came to UW or Cal or USC, we could see a third elite Pac program emerge. OR is flirting with it right now. Will Altman stay there, though? Or will we leave for a better job when it arises?
Re: Pac-12 game thread
Agree with these posts. In addition, Seattle lost its NBA franchise, which should help boost interest in the college team. Can't fathom why Oregon would be good but not Washington. Just need the right hire.ASUHATER! wrote:I agree. Would be hard for UW to ever become an Arizona or UCLA...but it can easily vie with oregon to be the 3rd best job in the conference. Re: Pac-12 game thread
You could be right, I just see the guys they bring, the top level guys, going there because of Romar moreso than it being Washington basketball or being close to home. Fultz, Pondexter, Ross, Wilcox, Holiday, Chriss are six NBA guys outside of that state, and I guess we will never know how much of staying home vs Romar himself led to the decisions of Robinson, Thomas, Roy, and Murray.Spaceman Spiff wrote:I think they might be able to do better. I am surprised no one is watching the UCLA/Utah game. It's one of the best conference games of the season. Utah is a good team. Not as good as UCLA but making it a game at home. You have the big 3 at the top of the conference and then Utah sits alone in 4th. Fun game to watch. Oh...and Lonzo Ball is good.

UW is down 41-24 with a minute left in the first half to Stanford? They have the presumed #1 NBA draft pick. Even with poor coaching, I just don't know how this happens.

I feel like college ball is his wheelhouse. Not sure what he really brings to an NBA team. He's a relationship guy, but not known especially for Xs & Os. So unless someone like Popovich gives him a spot as a goodwill gesture I would think he stays in the NCAA.MrBug708 wrote:Gotta think he does a stint in the NBA as an assistant coach.
