As I understand the rankings, they only rank the top 25 guys in each class so that no star guy won't impact us negatively. Of course if we get a couple of 4 stars that will bump the lower guys and we will look even stronger.
Many programs though will add guys as they are not up yo 25 yet. I think we will end up 30-35 come signing day

Re: 2017 recruits/commitment thread
I think when it is all said & done (additional decommits and additions) we will end up around 35, which is slightly better than where we usually are when we sign 25+ recruits. 2014 was our best, 2015 our worst, and this looks to be in between...azcat49 wrote:As I understand the rankings, they only rank the top 25 guys in each class so that no star guy won't impact us negatively. In classes with ~20 so signees, we ended #45.
In each full recruiting season und RR, here is where we finished according to Rivals:
2013: #37 with 25 recruits (two 4* and four high 3*)
2014: #28 with 28 recruits (six 4* and four high 3*)
2015: #41 with 25 recruits (zero 4* and four high 3*)
2016: #45 with 20 recruits (two 4* and five high 3*)
2017: #TBD with 28? recruits (three 4* and five high 3*)

Which really doesn't matter when the Arizona offense is fast-paced. It wears those big guys out faster than the smaller ones and then you need depth and quick subs to offset it.
Re: 2017 recruits/commitment thread
Curious after the success against ASSU if RR rethink the pace of the offense?

Very anticlimactic in this era. He's raw and needs some work from a good DL coach.
Re: 2017 recruits/commitment thread
Chief, his vids look pretty good and he had some nice stats AND he is a big man. Can Amey develope him or are we short on talent at that coaching position?

As far as I'm concerned, the jury is not out yet on Amey as far as coaching the position goes. Recruiting-wise....I have some negative thoughts but he is virtually new at it.
Re: 2017 recruits/commitment thread
Well damn, I can't think of a more important recruiting position then D Line. Hopefully it's just his youthfulness and inexperience that gives you doubt and not his recognition of talent to recruit.

The only thing happening is recruiting, it is the same-old, same-old... except that we seem to have more decommits than usual.
This should end up a pretty garden-variety RR recruiting class.

Re: 2017 recruits/commitment thread
Tilford enrolling early means he can't get poached. At least we can look forward to having a big, and hopefully durable, RB in the backfield. That should open up some passing and running options for whoever ends-up at QB. I know folks are down on the Cats, and rightly so, but having a good back would be very good for us.
Re: 2017 recruits/commitment thread
So with Tilford enrolling early does that mean that he counts against last year, or does he still count against this years class? I was just wondering if this frees up another spot for 2017.
Re: 2017 recruits/commitment thread
Yes he will count against last years number if possible as we don't know how many scholorships they might have granted to walk on's but one would think they will back date him to last year. With both BB and NT you could say we have room to sign at least 27 plus that one JUCO guy who will come in mid year and that makes 28Woodcat wrote:So with Tilford enrolling early does that mean that he counts against last year, or does he still count against this years class? Re: 2017 recruits/commitment thread
I would rather save any spots that go unused for 2017 than just fill the class with warm bodies. At this stage, I am not sure how many legitimate prospects we can add.Woodcat wrote:So with Tilford enrolling early does that mean that he counts against last year, or does he still count against this years class? There is no benefit to just filling open spots. Get real D1 talent now or wait and get it next year.
PS - Very reassuring that both Tilford and Burmeister appear solid.
Re: 2017 recruits/commitment thread
They have that big OT, Ealy deciding in the next few days. He is legit and can enroll early. He is deciding between LSU, Oklahoma and us. Fingers crossed. Get that kid in

Re: 2017 recruits/commitment thread
I am really struggling to understand how we could snag some kids late in the game with offers fro OK, LSU, UM, etc...
I would really love to see that happen... it just seems awfully unlikely. When was the last time that happened this late in the cycle?
Tabor I suppose... until he switched.

I hear you but McGee works Louisiana hard and I guess this kid wants to play very early.
Samuels is from New Mexico and we might have some advantages in being closer for his family
Still either one would be a shock

Well looks like Oregon may flip Burmeister at the final hour. If that happens I suggest we blow up the football board for good as there's zero point in its existence. College football recruiting is the most foul cancer ever created.
Re: 2017 recruits/commitment thread
Well he is supposed to start classes Monday and he is the QB of the future and he has a special relationship with Rod Smith. I doubt he flips unless he decides to not enroll early

I hate college recruiting.
Re: 2017 recruits/commitment thread
If Burmeister is a no-show next week, Byrne should take the first offer Texas makes for him and go become AD at a real football school. Rich Rod seems committed to blowing up the whole works before he's either forced to go back to the announcer's booth or flim-flam the next AD in Tucson into a couple more years.
But, and I say this as a passionate alum, the Arizona football program has turned into something clearly undeserving of someone of Greg Byrne's caliber. This isn't a Ced Dempsey situation where he didn't make a high enough offer to Larry Smith...this is one of the best college athletic administrators in the country who should go to where he has all the tools to win a national title, which is his true level of talent.
Arizona football is going to suck him down the drain if he sticks around, as the program is being out-recruited at a sad pace that is just cratering it. Nobody in the big markets takes us seriously enough anymore to put together a Pac-12 contender, and regardless of his level of responsibility for it, RichRod knows it.
