Yeah it is some sort of plumage. The piece of amber in question here is only about 1-2 inches in diameter. The dinosaur it came from is related to dinosaurs like velociraptor and the t-rex. Apparently this one was only the size of a small chicken at the most.

These discoveries are usually overhyped by the media beforehand. They expect news of alien life but science proceeds 1% at a time with things like this..Not in huge jumps. I bet it is just an announcement of a new somewhat Earth sized planet somewhere near its star's habitable zone.

yes I know what tidally locked means, just hadn't read that regarding these planets, and thus why I was wondering what the rotational rate was.

gotcha. in the past astronomers always thought that a planet being tidally locked was a death sentence for life on the planet since one side would be hundreds of degrees and blasted by radiation and the other would be frozen. but i've read that they think that if the planet has enough water and atmosphere that the heat could be exchanged from one side of the planet to the other and balance out the climate some. and there's always the twilight zones on the planets too.

I wanted to say "but I still buy cd's!" .... then I realized my last retail cd purchase was....at least 2 or 3 years ago now, maybe longer. I did pick up a couple cd's at a yard sale over a year ago.

in fact upon further thinking, it may have been 5+ years ago that I last bought a retail cd.

I think the last time I bought a CD must have been in like 2010. But from like 2000 to 2009 I probably bought 100 CDs. And burned another 50 from "legal" downloads.
