Women's basketball under Adia Barnes
Figured they deserve a new thread. Stumbled upon this, sounds like they're making progress in turning things around.

Re: Women's basketball under Adia Barnes
Should have happened a long time ago. Butts never should have been hired in the first place. Never a HC. At least Ben Lindsey was a HC at some level. Interesting how Barnes will work out too.
AD and the UA fanbase just didn't care about UA WBB.

I don't know how Butts lasted more than four years here. Sounds like there wasn't much team chemistry. Look at how many players left the program over the last eight years.Merkin wrote:Should have happened a long time ago. Butts never should have been hired in the first place. Never a HC. Re: Women's basketball under Adia Barnes
I don't think they wanted to pay the money to get someone better than Butts. What was once a respectable if not great program went down the drain while Butts lingered on as coach.Irish27 wrote:I don't know how Butts lasted more than four years here. Just because she coached there doesn't mean she would leave. I doubt she would leave her alma mater.az91 wrote:Is she gone for Udub?

Where is Paola Boivan when you need her? The recruiting gap is closing. She was finally right

Re: Women's basketball under Adia Barnes
Thanks ghost, that was a really cool article.ghostwhitehorse wrote:https://www.azdesertswarm.com/basketbal ... hce-tucson
The turnaround in our program makes a lot more sense after that snippet from the article.Barnes actually recruited Plum to Washington when she was an assistant there, and now is trying to use the San Diego native as an example for her current team at Arizona.
“I remind our players that she wasn’t a top-10 kid coming out of high school,” Barnes said. “She was a top-30, top-40 kid. No one would have thought that she would’ve been the first draft pick. No one thought she would’ve broken all the records. No one would’ve thought that at all. But her work ethic, her determination, her mentality set her apart.
“So I’m bringing in pieces like that to change the culture here like Kelsey Plum did at Washington.”

Adia gets a commit from 5-star center Semaj Smith. Adia is really turning things around. https://www.azdesertswarm.com/recruitin ... 2018-class" target="_blank

From someone who has seen the girls on this team multiple times: "The only Division I talent they have currently roster are redshirting due to transfer or are freshmen, next year will be a lot different."

They just exceeded their win total from all of last year. I’d say the turnaround is underway.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?
Re: Women's basketball under Adia Barnes
This team is talented and young. Barnes has this program rising fast. What is crazy is next year's incoming freshmen are all from outside the United States.

Re: Women's basketball under Adia Barnes
It's clear Barnes has this program going in the right direction. They're playing great. However, coming off 7 straight losing seasons it's no wonder they weren't ranked. That won't last long.RichardCranium wrote:Yeah well it looks to like when A$$U played 'somebody', they lost. Bit of a setback today, but Stanford was always going to be a very tough game.

Um... somebody at AZDS doesn't know how to spell New Zealand even when it is staring him/her in the face.azgreg wrote:
Edit: she is a Kiwi, but went to school in Oz. She plays for the New Zealand under 18 national team. So are guys who are born overseas, but go to school in the USA, considered Americans? Guys like, Ayton or Bol-Bol, or countless others?
