Actually they don't. Parents need to sign the NLI unless the player is 21 or over.
But once he's already in school? As is the case?

LaVar is the quintessential over-involved helicopter sports dad, only a million times more obnoxious, arrogant, and self-aggrandizing. His parenting skills consist of enabling, encouraging, and rewarding bad behavior and deflecting blame from anyone in his orbit. A really toxic personality I hope disappears as soon as possible.

He was a scholarship athlete, so does UCLA ask for their investment back? Or would they rather write it off than deal with Lavar?

Yeah, well, Australia still has a pretty good league. Not Euro quality, but probably better than China as far as quality of play though not pay.

And I remember a former A$$U player who came to Oz and flamed out like a candle in front of a fire hydrant. Gelo couldn't do any worse could he (yeah probably).

Hope Gelo can keep from having his right hand chopped off. He can't play the trump card again, can he?

If LaVar Ball's narcissism is anything like the You-Know-Who-in-Chief's, he picked up and got out right before the FBI nailed him in the bribery investigation.

This guy is the most skeevy pimp of undergraduate basketball players since Landon "Sonny" Cox.

They are going to Lithuania.

I really feel bad for these kids. This is child abuse and I'm even kidding. Lavar is ruining their lives and all the kids are so quiet.... I'm fairly certain they are all scared to death of him. Is the mom still very ill? Is there any other family member that could step in?

Well LiAngelo is an adult and could have chosen to stay at UCLA but he was never going to be league material so may as well go earn something now.

I would say over under on how many weeks they last there is 4. I've been to Lithuania a couple times; Vilnius is great. But going to live in a village in the winter time? Good luck with that.

Ball brothers picked 'worst possible place,' says American who played in Lithuania
When he learned where LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball will be playing pro basketball this season, Ben Brust couldn’t help but chuckle.

The former Wisconsin guard isn’t optimistic two pampered teenagers from sun-splashed Southern California will make a smooth transition to a club based in a remotely located, snow-covered town in Lithuania.

“I think they’ll last a month maximum,” Brust said. “It seems like the worst possible place they could have picked.”

In Oct. 2016, Brust signed with BC Pieno Zvaigždės of the Lithuanian League six months after helping lead Wisconsin to the Final Four and a few days after the Milwaukee Bucks cut him during training camp. The culture shock he experienced during his lone season in Lithuania left him more homesick than he expected.

Hardly anyone in the 7,500-person village of Pasvalys spoke English. Restaurants typically only served traditional Lithuanian dishes unrecognizable to Brust. He and American teammates Michael Dixon Jr. and Alex Oriakhi had to drive 30 to 40 minutes to the nearest big city to find a mall, a grocery store or restaurants that offered American fare.

Only the premier teams in Europe can afford the charter flights and high-end hotels that major-conference American college teams take for granted. Brust’s team bused or ferried to games in Latvia, Estonia and Finland and saved money by staying in bargain hotels.

“My American teammates and I would literally count down the days until we got back to America,” Brust said. “It was always cold and dark. There are only like 5 or 6 hours of sunlight every day, and you’re in a gym for half of it. It’s a good basketball league, but there are plenty of other places in Europe that I would much prefer to live.”

If you think that UCLA is glad to be rid of the Balls, think again. Why else would they print admission tickets with 0 minute LiAngelo's image for an upcoming game??

Lonzo looks like a good kid but DAMN, I can’t help rooting against the rest of the Ball Men. Still too early to see what kind of character Melo has but he doesn’t come off that well in their reality show.

Sadly, I admit I watched it and even had a change of heart on Lavar till his unbelievably ungrateful attitude towards his kid shoplifting, getting the luckiest bail out of all time, and ruining Gelo’s incredible opportunity at UCLA to get a free, high quality education when his Pro possibilities are all but non-existent.

Wish ESPN and others would stop this love-fest on Lavar.....such a poor example of a good parenting lately IMHO.

If anyone is selling Lonzo stock, ill swoop it up.

Say what you will about his jumper, its not broken IMO, and it will be addressed this summer. But, he has been night and day better defensively than I imagined. IQ, quick rotations, can body and wall off drives, has the size and strength to hold his ground, not to mention the 2.4 stocks (steal+blocks). Actually, he and Wall are the only PGs averaging at least a block and a steal per game.

Me too. I see people calling him a bust who don't get basketball. He is top five among rookies in rebounds per game, second to Simmons in assists and top ten in points. As you note, he has been better than expected on D.

Last year, he would have been first among rooks in assists by about 3 apg, 4th in scoring and second in rpg. He is a stat line stuffer who makes the game easier for his teammates. The article I posted above has a great stat. He is first in the league in lead passes of above 30 feet. Those are passes that don't usually wind up as assists, but enable a ton of easy buckets.

He has historically been a better shooter and this early season stuff is more of a slump. When he figures it out and starts shooting better, he will be a huge asset to the Lakers for m9re than a decade.
