Re: Game 24, at Washington (2017-2018)
I love what their defense is giving us. Blowing all those opportunities repeatedly just sucks.
Re: Game 24, at Washington (2017-2018)
Yep. And he's really a non-entity against UW's zone defense. He needs to step up his intensity and aggressiveness or he can't be on the floor. Too passive.dmjcat wrote:PJC is being eaten alive on the defensive end............this may be one game where he is just too much of a liability. Perhaps go with Randolph/DS/Akot???
BTW - This team (UW) is very similar to what we are likely to see in a NCAA 2nd round game.

UA 8-22 with many of those missed open shots.

How long can UW shoot 75% from 3?

Trier doing no better on D than PJC is either.
It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:

I don't get how the refs call that Rawle travel when they let every fast break dunk go the same way.

We're gonna need scoring from the guards at some point. Need to start looking for open shots and play smart defense.

Trier and PJC combined for 3 points, and giving up at least 10 on defense, or lack of defense.TatetheGreat wrote:We're gonna need scoring from the guards at some point. Need to start looking for open shots and play smart defense.

Cats should be down 20 as bad as they are playing.

PJC is such a liability. He just gives us nothing on either end.

Not to pile on our guys this year but our body language sucks balls. Every foul every lost loose ball we whine and appeal to the heavens. #nothungry.

Well that was a terrible half.

Yeah, we're not going to win a finesse game against a team playing 2-3 zone and driving to the hoop every play.

down 7 at the half with how poor AZ and the refs played....I'll kinda take it actually.

Re: Game 24, at Washington (2017-2018)
I'll take being down 7 points considering how shitty we played
Re: Game 24, at Washington (2017-2018)
We have two seven footers and neither one of them can guard a guy four inches shorter that has 20 pounds on them in the paint.
Re: Game 24, at Washington (2017-2018)
With his inability to penetrate against the zone he is a very one dimensional player..........defensive. Andzonagrad wrote:PJC is such a liability. He just gives us nothing on either end.
he's not particularly good at that. I would rather see a combination of Randolph/DS/Akot in the 2nd half........maybe
an extended audition for Randolph.

Re: Game 24, at Washington (2017-2018)
that's why I am a proponent of zone, because for whatever reason perimeter players think you can't dribble drive against it. Let's just stand around on the perimeter and play hot potato.

Re: Game 24, at Washington (2017-2018)
Yeah, we're not getting killed but still our standard response to the zone, in any of its forms, well, it makes it hard to be optimistic. We're the better team but we're not our best under this condition. we have to get where we are our best under this very condition.PieceOfMeat wrote:down 7 at the half with how poor AZ and the refs played....I'll kinda take it actually.

Washington players are loving it but every coach on their bench is worried. That was an absurdly bad half from Arizona.

Ayton and Rawle can't hit anything tonight.
That needs to change in the 2nd half.

Re: Game 24, at Washington (2017-2018)
Hopkins is employing a very effective zone. He is taking away any perimeter shots and giving us a bunch
of high post shots that Ristic/Ayton normally don't take (and are not used to taking).

You mean because they're 2.5 feet closer to the basket? Time for the halftime warmups....dmjcat wrote:Hopkins is employing a very effective zone. He is taking away any perimeter shots and giving us a bunch

Yeah and we are rebounding vs a zone. So Ayton and Ristic should be killing on the boards.84Cat wrote:Ahjsbowl16 wrote:Dickerson > Ayton and Ristic combined in the first half.
