Re: Coaching Carousel
A big part of that program’s recruiting problem is its conference, and that won’t change with a new coach. They need to be in the Big East.
Re: Coaching Carousel
According to Goodman, UConn wants Hurley from Rhode Island. It would be fun to beat two Hurleys next season.
Re: Coaching Carousel
Crazy that the CSM to UCONN rumors would have started right about now. Would have been terrible timing before the NCAA tourney.
In a weird twist, the ESPN thing coming out when it did probably allowed CSM to continue coaching here and kept the team focused on the tourney rather than the UCON opening.
That being said this is just going off of what 97cats said.

Should've taken the NBA money when it was there, idiot. Also why you don't hire alums.

Re: Coaching Carousel
I read that the "for cause" was because of the investigation into recruiting practices. That would certainly be a big stretch to make an investigation a cause for firing. Seems UConn is just trying to save $10 million.EastCoastCat wrote:Easy Chi...I live in CT.Chicat wrote:I’m hoping CSM wants to stay the fuck away from everyone in Connecticut.

Edit: Now I see it is about the NCAA investigation into unauthorized practices last Summer. Seems like that would not bring penalties harsh enough for a "for cause" firing.

Re: Coaching Carousel
Well, golly-gee. Isn't it too bad that Connecticut doesn't have a sports network with national, much less global, reach that could investigate such a firing.BBQWildcat wrote:I read that the "for cause" was because of the investigation into recruiting practices. The contrast is still unbelievable to me.
ESPN can assertively state it nailed a story that "SHOULD" get a basketball coach in Arizona, who is STILL coaching, fired--in a place it never sends anyone--but the coach in the same position in its home state gets fired "for cause," and it's just a big, wondrous mystery?
I ridicule the label of "fake news" as applied to most networks, but if the label wasn't earned at ESPN before, the Kevin Ollie firing nailed it in the coffin. That network has some serious issues with sacred cows.

That would be a step up. And leaving a dumpster fire as the talent runs out.

ASU has the like #18 recruiting class coming in for 2018. Probably one of the 2-3 best classes they've ever had in their history.CalStateTempe wrote:That would be a step up. And leaving a dumpster fire as the talent runs out.

Maybe we can recruit him better this time. He's pretty highly regarded for a reason, perhaps too highly regarded for us. It seems more likely that he lands a midmajor HC job, but hey, you can dream.Beachcat97 wrote:Pretty sure Lute recruited Padgett.

I think that would be a mistake by Mack. I wonder if he's leveraging for a raise and extension. The just had a 1-seed at Xavier. He'll have a short leash at L'Ville.NYCat wrote:Mack to Louisville next probablyEastCoastCat wrote:Danny Hurley to UCONN.

Given the sanctions, I doubt Louisville will have too much room to demand results fast. It is Louisville, so there's always the resources to win big, but the sanctions deal a blow.zonagrad wrote:I think that would be a mistake by Mack. Re: Coaching Carousel
L'ville is a good program to watch if we're curious to know what *could* befall AZ. Both strong programs, both got dinged recently. I actually think AZ is the better job because of our west coast recruiting regional advantage, but then, L'ville's in a real conference.Spaceman Spiff wrote:Given the sanctions, I doubt Louisville will have too much room to demand results fast. Re: Coaching Carousel
Louisville's in a worse situation, NCAA-wise, because they were on self imposed probation when the FBI wires were happening. Of all the programs, if the NCAA wanted to go full death penalty, they are (I think) the only eligible program. I know they are eligible and we aren't, but not sure on SC and Miami.Beachcat97 wrote:L'ville is a good program to watch if we're curious to know what *could* befall AZ. Louisville is just such a money machine with shiny facilities that they can almost always have a decent draw to recruits if they aren't crippled with sanctions. I get why Mack would leave Xavier. Unlimited cash, great resources and historical success*.

Re: Coaching Carousel
Yeah, I don't know how we play out, but Louisville got smacked by the NCAA for the prostitution thing and did the FBI stuff while on self imposed probation for the prostitution thing. Our situation isn't nearly as clear either. Louisville offered the 150k for Bowen and Bowen didn't play this year period.ChooChooCat wrote:We aren't in for shit as compared to Louisville. Louisville is a top level job but for NCAA issues.

Chris Mack doesn't seem like he will be the head coach.
Re: Coaching Carousel
Who knows, but with the shit storm likely to hit Louisville, it is unclear why Mack would leave Xavier at this point. Yes, Louisville is an elite job, but he has it rolling at Xavier and will have less headaches to deal with during the next few years. Why rebuild Louisville and deal with sanctions when he can continue winning at Xavier, and potentially land another top-tier job in the future without the headaches?jajoyce wrote:ChooChooCat wrote:We aren't in for shit as compared to Louisville.
