Pretty impressive showing by a bunch of slow white boys, but athleticism and superior talent wins out.

Me too...but I’m not all that impressed with Kentucky...If Davidson (that Swede excepted) could hit a 3, this game might have turned out differently.

Maybe we will get lucky and not be the first 1 downed by a 16
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

This has been a hell of a game. Hope UMBC can keep it up!

It's all about match-ups. The Cats destroyed UMBC this year and now they are 12 minutes from making history.

Did you watch our guards vs. Buffalo? I don't know how you could project us playing better in the second round against Kentucky's physical backcourt players.

You're right, but it would have been our easiest path under SM. Even though UVA is missing De'Andre Hunter, this is remarkable. KenPom #1 team down 17 points to #188 with three minutes left.

We would have had a chance if we played our best basketball. We played Bahamas-level basketball against Buffalo. Also looked like there was no desire to be there or pre-game prep. We deserved to lose, I'm just saying it's a huge lost opportunity.

I agree we would’ve been toe to toe with Kentucky if we didn’t get waxed by Buffalo. I can’t believe I just that

I can't imagine. So close to a Final Four under Tony Bennett. Choked away that game vs. Syracuse when the HAD the final four. And now this. Wow.

This is their Santa Clara, ETSU, Miami, OH, and Buffalo all rolled into one. Virginia will be forever synonymous with being the Goliath. Chaminade under Ralph Sampson. And this. Yikes.

Virginia was a 20 point favorite in that game. Vegas was a bit off on that one.

This game felt a lot like ours last night. You need to have big guys to compete in the big conferences but you are very suceptible to a four guard lineup where they can slice and dice your defense. The best defense statistically in college basketball looked unbeatable in the ACC but against a smaller lineup they were too big and slow just like us.

They held UMBC to 21 points in the first half. That's part of what's so crazy. They were defending UMBC well...then whoosh, it went off.

holy shit.

I don't watch any games today cause of life (and our loss too a bit) and what do I miss?

Only the biggest upset in the history of the NCAA tourney.

a 16 over a 1, and by twenty points too.

holy shit.

The first round of the tournament is like what the Army called asymmetrical warfare—Vietnam for example. Where a well trained army with overwhelming firepower can be stymied by an opponent who can’t/refuses to fight a traditional battle because they don’t have the resources and would be wiped out if they tried. This is why there are so many crazy games at the beginning of the tournament, but as it wears on and most of the powers and superpowers advance it returns to symmetrical warfare. I guarantee you we had a better chance to beat Kentucky than Buffalo has. Unfortunately, we got bogged down in Vietnam and lost heart. Let’s just hope we don’t have an Apocalypse Now situation on our hands.
