approach to recruiting

Post by Bordercat »

I hope Miller, should he stay, or whoever else comes along, moves away from this old-school low-post, back to the basket, found it inside style of play.

Give me guards and wings and a serviceable, versatile big- I don't need an Allstar.

Welsh, Jordan Bell, AJ Bramlet will do.

But give me some guards who can hoop and some swing men who can finish.

Let's get back to transition basketball and maybe even full court press when we can.

Tarc, Lauri, Ristic, Ayton... great Cats but I'm tired of this style of play.

Not quite understanding. You want someone like Thomas Welsh but not like Dusan? Do they not have the exact same game? Trier is who we thought was a guard who can score and finish. He never could show up in big games though. And you throw Jordan Bell in there like he's some average Joe. Dude is/was a beast.

Dusan... I love him. But he is traditional, low post, back to the basket player. Welsh is not that.

Bell, ok he is awesome but also not the traditional low post player.

I'm saying I would love to see AZ become more guard/wing oriented and less focused on the dominant bigs.

Ala.... GSW. The style of ball Miller has been trying to play isn't really consistent with the most successful NBA teams anymore, or in college. Our only championship team had Bennett Davidson as our 4 and AJ Bramlett and Donnell Harris as our 5's. But we had some badass guards.

I'd like to see AZ get back to that style of ball.

I get what you are saying, and I agree. Welsh isn't a great example IMO, but the point holds. I'd like to see a more long, athletic big that attacks the glass & defends. Any offensive skill it a bonus, but not an absolute must. Chris Silva @ South Caroline is exactly the type of big I'd like to see more of. Of course if you have a chance at a guy like Ayton, you take him.

Pair that with dynamic wings/ PG...and get out and run. Wait, I just described a Lute Olson team...
