Re: What's for lunch?
I’ve been in several cities in Chile, including Santiago, the past two weeks visiting all sorts of family and have been completely surprised how cheap homes/apartments/Condos/beach houses are and yet how expensive food and consumables (toilet paper, clothes, etc ) are. Like nearing Sf prices.
In the end it’s all a wash, but contemplating the economics behind it is fascinating.

Enchilada style chimi from Papas Locos. Their red sauce is so damn delicious

How’s cafe poca cosa these days? Still going strong?
Other good Mexican food places for lunch to take the wife? I remember el charro always being hit or miss and I do like mi nidito, but are there any others I should be considering?
Last time I went to sit down Mexican Tucson was probably around 2009

Re: What's for lunch?
I honestly haven't been to a sit down Mexican restaurant in a while, except for a random trip to Guadalajara Grill a couple months ago (I live a quarter mile away).
I mostly hit up the casual taco shops, have been meaning to try some fresh seafood at JPS market on the south side too.

Re: What's for lunch?
I'm no expert on lunch, but generally, El Charro and all its locations are a waste of everyone's time, especially their carne seca.
Mi Nidito is a national treasure.
Penca is a good date - pretentious but fun. It's Mexico City food, and they won't let you in the door without a shirt.
I'm a fan of Birrieria Guadalajara on 22nd St. and 4th Ave., and Los Chipilones on 6th Ave. between 22nd and 21st streets.
Seis in Mercado San Augustin is really good, and you eat outside. And don't miss Las Estrellas bakery there. You can pick up fresh-made tortillas and tamales in addition to pan dulce.
Anita Street Market is amazing.
B-Line is good for breakfast burritos, but a joke at lunch. A great flour tortilla can almost save anything, but Is that a hipster's take on carne asada? I don't much go for zucchini in a carne asada burrito.
But to be honest, the single best thing you could ever eat is a Sonoran Hot Dog from Ruiz on 6th Ave. and 22nd street, right next to Los Chipilones. Ladle on that green, avocado-based salsa in the fridge.

Couldn't agree more on the Mi Nidito vs. El Charro debate. Sounds like a lot of other places warrant checking out on my next visit . . . seems I never have the time though.Longhorned wrote:I'm no expert on lunch, but generally, El Charro and all its locations are a waste of everyone's time, especially their carne seca.

Went to the new Divine Bovine at Speedway/Wilmot which is in the old La Salsa. 2nd venture from the Brushfire BBQ owner. The smell of sizzling meat smacks you in the face right when you walk in. Damn good burger!

Re: What's for lunch?
Ive never had a bad meal at Brushfire. Very good BBQ. My favorite and I think the best in town is Holy Smokin' Butts. They went from a food truck, to the old Lucky Wishbone on Wilmot and are now moving into the original Gordo's at Broadway and Kolb in the next few weeks. They are killing itLonghorned wrote:How's Brushfire?

Re: What's for lunch?
Brushfire is awful. It was good years ago but not now. Their sides are still good but the actual BBQ is terrible. I went there a few months ago after not going for several years and it was the worst brisket I'd ever had. It wasn't slices of brisket...it was like maybe 4 oz of it chopped/mushed up into miniscule chunks and drowned in a ton of sugar BBQ sauce. Tons of unrendered fat chunks in it as well. It was just terrible.
If you want some good BBQ in Tucson, Red Desert BBQ on Prince west of Oracle is really good.

Sauteed cherry tomatoes, kale, carrots, and chickpeas with olive oil and balsamic. Usually I've been having avocado with lemon juice, cherry tomatoes, and pinto beans. But I ran out of ripe avocados.

For anyone in the Phoenix area you have to head to downtown Mesa for Worth Takeaway. Some of the best food I've ever had, much less that best sandwiches ever.

BK which uses the Impossible Burger is GMO.
