Did they even get his age right? https://nbadraft.theringer.com/" target="_blankSunnyAZ wrote:The Ringer Draft Guide has Rawle at #12, ahead of Trae Young. What is life.
Main Selling Point: Strong wing defense
Age: 20.4
Height/Weight: 6'5"/220
Wingspan: 6'8.75"
Standing Reach: 8'3"
An energetic, athletic, and burly wing who projects as a versatile defender and spot-up shooter.
Shades Of: Eric Bledsoe, Lance Stephenson, Aaron McKie
PLUSES
Sets a tone; he played with consistent defensive effort as a sophomore, and got better at avoiding fouls.
Thick frame, long arms, and athleticism give him potential versatility to defend guards, wings, and some forwards.
Improved shooter in spot-up situations, though his release can get quicker.
Flashes shooting potential off the dribble, though he must expand his repertoire of dribbling moves.
Good first step attacking closeouts, and a solid finisher with his right hand.
Decent passer who keeps the ball moving and makes accurate passes off the dribble.
MINUSES
Underwent surgery after fracturing a bone in his right foot in 2017.
Should be a better rebounder considering his size and athleticism.
Gets a bit wild driving to the basket; leaves his feet on too many passes and gets too loose with the ball.
Athleticism doesn’t always show when attempting layups, and he too often ends up settling for floaters.
Can get better at recognizing cutting opportunities.
Re: Rawle Alkins
Just don't see that. If a GM drafts him that high I would question the draft or that GM's ability to evaluate. I think he should come back but I know there is no chance of that

Terrible handles too for a wing. That has to be on the minuses.

It is a shame his time at U of A was marred by injuries. If not for the foot injury, he might have done something special this year and been remembered as one of the favorite U of A players of all time.

Re: Rawle Alkins
Rawle is a little undersized for an NBA two guard and his shot is inconsistent, but his +5" wingspan and his positive / "can do" attitude will get him good consideration, I'd think.
He's not nearly as skilled as Trier but he's got the length that you can't teach.

Latest NBA Draft projections...
Rawle Alkins
Sports Illustrated — No. 30 overall (Atlanta Hawks)
Tankathon.com — No. 33 overall (Dallas Mavericks)
The Ringer — No. 34 overall (Orlando Magic)
NBADraft.net — No. 54 overall (Dallas Mavericks)
It’s not always easy to find mock drafts that include the second round, but all the ones I did find included Alkins. Sports Illustrated believes he might sneak into the first round, but it seems like his stock is currently early-to-late second round. A strong showing the NBA Combine could certainly do him some good.

Re: Rawle Alkins
Rawle’s got game, clearly. His handle seems shaky at times. It’s not hard to recall times he drove to the lane and lost the ball or had it stripped/poked away. But when his shot is falling, he’s tough to guard. He’s extremely athletic and gets nice lift on his shot. If his shooting and D keep improving, he should be able to stick in the league for a while.rgdeuce wrote:Quite a bit of buzz about his stock rising as of late.

He has a good physical profile for the next level. Long arms, strong frame, decent athlete. It's easy to see how he projects at the next level, even more than Zo, IMO.rgdeuce wrote:Quite a bit of buzz about his stock rising as of late.

Re: Rawle Alkins
Yup, if he gets drafted its because a team thinks they can improve his defense and his shooting can play with some work. Been saying it since he was a freshman. Hes the safer prospect in my eyes, compared to Trier, if he can improve defensively. You ask him to be a 3-and-D wing.Spaceman Spiff wrote:He has a good physical profile for the next level. Undrafted.
Rawle screwed up............He should have come back for his junior year (unless the rumors regarding him being the player Book paid off are true and he wanted to beat the Police out of town).
I hope he likes long bus rides in South Dakota............or the food in the Bolivian league.

Re: Rawle Alkins
Sad, he now needs lessons in being TJ.
There is hope for him, it wouldn't surprise me for a team to pick him up.
I really wish he would have stayed. Although, the older ho is when he enters the league, the less time he has to get established before the change to let high schoolers in. There may be a glut of talent that year and might not be good for players who are establishing themselves and developing.
Hope he keeps his head up as well as Zo.
They both should at least have good overseas careers.

I wish Rawle luck but should have left after his freshmen year. When you come back you run the risk of this. Feel terrible for him as his road to the NBA is going to be very tough now

Rawle didn't improve at all, granted he had the injury to start the year, but nonetheless he was the same player at best, and it cost him.

Do you really think Rawle’s decision process was (or should be) based on whether he would make the Wildcats a better team next year? Come on . . .
Re: Rawle Alkins
I know it all depends on team needs bu if you were a GM would you opt for Zo or Rawle if you wee taking a flyer. I would ave thought Rawle but it was Zo who got the 2 way deal

Re: Rawle Alkins
It’s crazy how staying in school rarely helps a guy’s pro prospects. Rawle likely would’ve been drafted last year. Miles Bridges probably would’ve gone in the top 5. It’s like playing longer in college is a tacit acknowledgment that the guy isn’t really NBA material, or certainly not a future star.
TJ is the exception, of course. But he’s seemingly got more drive than anyone, and he’s also just a very good PG.
Trier and Rawle have a harder path to the NBA now. It’s not impossible, but if Nick Johnson can’t get there, I’m not sure these two can.

Re: Rawle Alkins
There are plenty of exceptions and examples on both sides. Chandler Hutchinson wasn't a draft pick last season. Solomon Hill wouldn't have been as a sophomore. Mikal Bridges rose heavily based on his play this season.Beachcat97 wrote:It’s crazy how staying in school rarely helps a guy’s pro prospects. Rawle likely would’ve been drafted last year. Like Choo said though: you have to show improvement. I feel for the dude with two injuries (the hand in the tournament and then the foot to follow it up) but he never got his weight down to where it needed to be and he didn't improve as a shooter or as a defender. For a guy who needed to project as a classic 3 and D in the NBA - he didn't show scouts that he was moving in that direction. In truth he regressed in just about every category, despite getting a bump in usage.
Totally possible for him to make it off a two way though. He's got great length and strength and a great attitude. Wishing him well.
