That might be worth a road trip. Hopefully the UA Alumni Association will have something.

Seeing "San Fran" in the title hurts my eyes.

No no no no no
And don’t go there with “the city” garbage.
It’s San Francisco, two words, 4 syllables. No ifs ands or buts about t.

When I lived in SF, it was always "The City". Even friends in the bay area would go: "I'm going to the city this weekend, want to meet up?".
Never ever "Frisco". That's a town in Texas.

Interesting, by the time I got there in 2004, it fell out of favor.Merkin wrote:When I lived in SF, it was always "The City". Even friends in the bay area would go: "I'm going to the city this weekend, want to meet up?".

But I’ll renege in my disdain for the “the city” as it sounds as if it was the preferred term in the 1970s-1980s which IMO SF was the best incarnation of itself.
Let’s agree that it should never be called “Frisco”.

You're right, it's "The City". I grew up in the East Bay, and still live here, that's what it has always been. Or "SF".Merkin wrote:When I lived in SF, it was always "The City". Even friends in the bay area would go: "I'm going to the city this weekend, want to meet up?".

I think this is pretty much a nod to the team's best coach in their history (Kerr/Arizona) and a nod to their best retired player (Mullins/St. Johns).Alieberman wrote:Why St Johns though? I want an elite game

Maybe I hung out with too many NYC transplants back in the day who bristled at use of “The City”
Bristle they did. Man I would’ve loved to have grown up in the Bay Area before crazy tech gentrification.
Re: U of A To Play at Chase Center (San Fran) in 2019
An interesting little town, too. Toyota Stadium, where FC Dallas plays and where the FCS championships, aka "The Fargo Road Trip" are held, is in Frisco. We opened our baseball season in 2017 in the Frisco Classic at Dr. Pepper Ballpark, just down the road from the soccer stadium, with wins over Okie St and Arkansas before Nebraska got us in the 3rd game. Money Magazine ranked it #1 in the 2018 "Best Places to Live" list, which combines factors including the economy, cost of living, average education of residence, diversity, housing, and crime. Gearbox Software is located there (that matters to someone, i suppose), relocating from rival Plano, TX. The Ford Center, an indoor football facility used by the Cowboys and local high school teams, was built a couple of years ago.Merkin wrote: Never ever "Frisco". That's a town in Texas.
Am I from there? No. I've been there a couple of times, as one of my old college roommates lives in the area with his family.
I might be one of the few people who thinks of this place first when I hear "Frisco".

Except for 2 years in Indiana as a small kid my mom spent the first 25 years of her life in SF or mostly around the LA beaches. She always regretted moving to Arizona haha.CalStateTempe wrote:Ah yes...classic “SF”qwertyus wrote:You're right, it's "The City". With Mullin as the head coach and Richmond one of the assistants, bringing back two of Run TMC guys would be attractive.Alieberman wrote:Why St Johns though? I want an elite game

Actually, "Feces By the Bay" is probably a more realistic name for the place these days

Herb Caen called SF "Bagdad By the Bay" with bemused affection back in the day.
Now, Tony Bennett vs. Otis Redding vs. Journey.
I go with Otis.

Offering up for your consideration, "The City" as in "this city" referred to in that awful Jefferson Starship song.
However, they can be considered locals going back the Jefferson Airplane the Haight/Ashbury days.
Those going to San Francisco from out of the Bay Area however:
Although I am not sure Eric Burdon has ever been to San Francisco since he sang "warm San Franciscan nights".
Someone else heading to San Francisco in that era:

Jefferson Starship has officially disavowed "We Built This City." They agree it's one of the worst songs of all time. Right up there with every Phil Collins song from the 1980s.Merkin wrote:Offering up for your consideration, "The City" as in "this city" referred to in that awful Jefferson Starship song.

It is actually the worst song ever.Longhorned wrote: Jefferson Starship has officially disavowed "We Built This City." They agree it's one of the worst songs of all time. Right up there with every Phil Collins song from the 1980s.
Blender Mag (RIP) did a list of worst songs a few years back and it was #1. I actually received congratulatory calls from friends (this was a time when lists like that made some news and were on the radio, that thing we used to listen to for music) because I had made this contention for the better part of my life. Not that it was one of the worst...it was the worst.
For those who care, my #2 is Kokomo (Blender had it in the top 15, but not #2).

The Donna Summer or Richard Harris version?UAEebs86 wrote: MacArthur Park is a close second.
Although I haven't heard either one on the radio in many years, however when "We Built this City" comes on I always change the station, even if it's just to a commercial. Same with any Aerosmith, Bryan Adams or John Mellecamp song.

Rapture by Blondie is the worst song I've ever heard. I felt the need to delete my history after looking it up.

Ticketmaster. They've been on sale to the general public for a little while, so a lot are gone.
