Cats are 18-5 with their roster fully healthy. As Miller has said, there is no margin of error with this team.
Beat ASSU and if we win 2 in vegas to get to 20 wins I will say this year was pretty good considering what we had and had to overcome

Waiting at the Rose Bowl patiently for the cats to arrive

I feel good about beating ASU this week.
2018-2019 Arizona Basketball
47 total points against Oregon's zone, and just 16 second half points
Sounds about right for a team full of 4* playing Bennett Ball

I'll admit I was wrong here, mostly because I forgot about the format change and thought you had to be 9-12 to play 1st day. But we could be that tooPieceOfMeat wrote: sup

I had responded with that after we fell to 4-1 in conference by losing to Oregon. So yeah, you predicted a 7 game losing streak more effectively than I had.
You win this round.

Well, not sure about you guys, but getting beaten pretty easily by ASU at McKale in March has to be among the lowest points for this program in several years. Maybe the lowest point of the Miller era.

Now I know how asu fans usually feel. Not sure I would continue to subject myself to this.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

Randolph is still a ding-dong. He should never have the ball with the game on the line.
Not that we had to worry about that scenario today. Serious intelligence deficit in this Arizona team. I can't believe I am still morbidly curious about watching them when I go to Vegas on Wednesday.

I would accept just for Luther and Coleman. They didn't grad transfer to Arizona to sit at home tourney time. Doesn't really matter to the rest of the team, just another game to get embarrassed again at.PieceOfMeat wrote:if

I'm rather glad I completely bailed on the entirety of conference play. Maybe saw about 10 mins of one game. I'll try again next year.
Re: 2018-2019 Arizona Basketball
Just got back to Mesa after watching that train wreck in Mckale.
I'm not certain what depressed me more. Was it:
1) 5th year senior Justin Coleman, who played like a freshman, charging to the basket over and over and flinging up wild shots at the top of the backboard and hoping something good happens
2) Brandon Randolph jumping 5 feet sideways while heaving up 3 point shots
3) Dylan Smith having trouble dribbling the ball downcourt.......with nobody guarding him
The collective IQ of our guards, on an integer scale from 0-10 with 10 being the best, is -1.

I want to b!tch slap the three of them. Absolutely stupid. I wonder if they realize how Fing dumb there decisions are sometimes.
Re: 2018-2019 Arizona Basketball
Both jeter and Ira were pretty dominating inside when they actually got fed the ball on a halfway decent pass. Yet the guards on this team still just fling the ball around the outside looking to chuck up a 3....or they just drive to the hoop into 3 guys and wait for a foul. Why not just feed the bigs?MC1983 wrote:dmjcat wrote:Just got back to Mesa after watching that train wreck in Mckale.

I'm trying to forget the game entirely. Our DHOs are fraught with risk. Our perimeter passes are like credit card transactions on unsecured coffee shop wifi. Ira should have had sooo many more touches.billk78 wrote:MC1983 wrote:dmjcat wrote:Just got back to Mesa after watching that train wreck in Mckale.

Re: 2018-2019 Arizona Basketball
Yeah. It's just not the level of PG play we've enjoyed with so many other players. I really thought Coleman would be a steadier hand than PJC, but he's just not a very good PG. He can't drive and create, and he even struggles to make the right pass in a half-court set. Oh well. Sean rolled the dice. Probably thought a senior PG would work well with this young roster. Not that it's all on Coleman. Randolph has been terrible. Luther is incredibly inconsistent and not a high level D1 player. CJ and BW are our two best players, and they both missed games due to injury. We needed some luck this year, and it just didn't happen.97cats wrote:they both suckBeachcat97 wrote:PJC was better than Coleman.

Re: 2018-2019 Arizona Basketball
Still can't figure out why Coleman drives to the basket and tries to put up a shot that is lucky to hit the backboard. Like Scheer said Saturday, Coleman missed a layup by 5 feet.
But I can kind of see Coleman sucking, dude played at Samford.
Luther is hard to figure out. He averaged a double double his last season at Pitt. Now the strongest guy on the team is averaging 4.4 boards a game?
But Randolph is the biggest enigma. Looked like a future NBAer in the out of conference schedule. Very quick first step and could finish.
He was never a great shooter, but was decent.
Looking at his 3 point stats, for 2019 BR is 5 for 23 since February.

Re: 2018-2019 Arizona Basketball
It's really hard to imagine too many more things going wrong this season. No one emerged as better than expected. We got nothing from Barcello. Doutrive minutes were minimal. The guys we were really counting on to carry the team did not come through.Merkin wrote:Still can't figure out why Coleman drives to the basket and tries to put up a shot that is lucky to hit the backboard. I know it's been said elsewhere, but one other thing that drives me crazy AF: why can't Miller design an offense to attack a zone?

Re: 2018-2019 Arizona Basketball
Coleman has a Westbrook mindset in a PJC body. He forces the action, but that only goes so well when you're that small.Merkin wrote:Still can't figure out why Coleman drives to the basket and tries to put up a shot that is lucky to hit the backboard. Luther's per 40 rebounding was between 5 and 8 rpg prior to last year. In a small sample size it jumped to 12.4 per 40 in 10 games. This year, he regressed to the mean.
Randolph...he has an NBA body and skill level, and his decision making is nonexistent. It's frustrating to watch because he seems incapable of getting a simple shot. No one defaults to high degree of difficulty shots more than he does. Getting simple looks to score is an underrated aspect of basketball IQ.

For the record, Justin Coleman is a very nice person. Ira Lee is especially so. Brandon Randolph is eternally tuned out, in an almost blissful way, and I'm glad cars stop for him because he doesn't look both ways, or either way, really. Dylan Smith is funny.97cats wrote:yes and Cartwright was a good student and nice guy, maybe Coleman is as well i dont know.KillerKlown wrote:On and off the court.

BDub did get honorable mention for the freshman team.
No centers made the top 15 players. Only center is on all frosh team.

Miller has struggled with the pg spot. In the 10 years TJ has really only been the one that panned out. Momo Jones I think was a combo guard but was better than PJC and Colman.

If Arizona doesn't win the conference tourney, I think it's best to fully enjoy March Madness like the vast majority of America -- without all that investment of worrying about my team meeting my hopes for a deep run. And really savor it, because it's probably my last chance to have this experience in a long time.
