I actually applied for a job a long time ago at the U of A in the sports video/graphics department and got denied. lol.
It's funny because I was making 3x the amount they were offering at the time, but it would have been cool to work with the football and basketball teams.

Yeah he is clearly lying right now. Claims the athletic department is pissed about the drive back to Phoenix comment. Claims Arizona was surprised that Miller was on tap with Dawkins (clear lie).

Arizona was unaware of the Book comment on the wiretap with Dawkins (so was Miller obviously). They were beyond aware of Miller's wiretap and what was on it. Maybe Heeke was upset about the drive back to Phoenix comment, but the U of A cares less for what Heeke thinks in this situation than a parent does hearing their child's review of how good a movie is.PHXCATS wrote:Yeah he is clearly lying right now. Re: Bribery Scandal - FBI Probe - Book Richardson Involved
He claimed he broke news in November 2018 that Dawkins and Miller were on tap talking together. Um I am pretty sure we knew this in February 2018. But hey if he wants to take a victory lap on Man Landing on the Moon as well go for it big guy.
He also claims that Miller's press conference in March 2018 on his return will hurt him.
Finally he claims people in the Arizona administration are telling him they are concerned. Either a) he is clearly lying because no one would tell a media member that (and he said these guys are reaching out to him, 4 guys) or b) people are trying to throw Miller under the bus. I doubt even Heeke would do that right now

Big yawn . . . but I'm fairly positive Yahoo will have some crazy headline up on their site within the hour and ESPN will say that Miller is days away from being fired on the sportscenter crawl.

Concerned? Aren't we all? But we believe what Miller has said regarding this issue.
If any among us isn't a little concerned, they really don't understand the gravity of the situation and what could happen with just one added element or even the NCAA deciding to play tough guy with the most aired name in this mess. We aren't on terra firma just yet.
I can totally believe a radio host who knows the guy who fixes the copiers, or maybe the SID intern, when they say people in the AD are concerned. But that kind of statement isn't coming from anyone above that.

Re: Bribery Scandal - FBI Probe - Book Richardson Involved
Granted, the NCAA is hoping to find a lack of institutional control on Miller's part so they can nail the program, but has there been any indication what the NCAA is going to do with Louisville or Kansas? Pitino was involved with offering a six figure payment to Bowen's father on behalf of the basketball program (his firing doesn't change the violation), and Bill Self acknowledged knowing about payments to potentially get Ayton to commit to Kansas. Those are far more serious than Miller's assistant making a side deal with Dawkins to try to steer AZ players to Dawkins' agency after leaving Arizona. If Arizona ultimately takes a hit for lack of institutional control, fine. But there were several other major programs part of this FBI investigation. Is USC's situation any different than Arizona's? Has the NCAA launched an investigation of USC's basketball program?
Again, if Arizona is guilty of a technicality and/or violation(s), then they should face a penalty -- BUT, Arizona should not be singled out here. The other programs involved should also take a hit, not just out of fairness, but because if the NCAA wants to adjudicate this basketball-wide scandal, all participants should be penalized.

It is potentially huge because if Book truly was working side deals solely for his own benefit, and he never gave money to players or recruits, the NCAA focus then largely becomes whether Miller paid Ayton, and if it cannot be proven, it is difficult to see how AZ gets hit hard by the NCAA.Spaceman Spiff wrote:It's not insane, given the other sentences.Jefe wrote:Books lawyer wants probation.

Again, it will be interesting to see what the NCAA does with all of the other programs and coaches named in the FBI investigation and trials. What is going on with USC, Louisville and Kansas?

The "includes but is not limited to" in that rule makes it impossible to take anything meaningful from that rule.97cats wrote:10.1 Unethical Conduct...look it up
We could always get it from the NCAA, but this from Book is the best case scenario for us. It positions us in the most advantageous place with the NCAA.
The "not limited to" language is a nice litigation tool if we want it. If this was a criminal statute, there's a challenge based a statute being void for vagueness. The NCAA has historically been sensitive to vagueness challenges in the enforcement area. PSU is the classic example. Covering up sexual abuse is pretty unethical, but PSU succeeded limiting their exposure with a jurisdiction/vagueness argument.

How fucked up is the NCAA that they banned the dude for two seasons and then when appealed, said "yeah you're right, half of that is appropriate." They're playing with people's lives here - the lives of kids! - and they're off by HALF?! If I was off by half in my business, not only would I be fired but people would consider an intervention - something would have to be seriously wrong to fuck up that badly.
I know none of this dumbfuckery from the NCAA is new, but I'll continue to be disgusted by their failures as if its the first time.

That's why I said it pays to be respectful but firm with the NCAA. Make them justify and own their judgments, and half the time they fold. It's partially because their judgments are frequently shaky.YoDeFoe wrote:How fucked up is the NCAA that they banned the dude for two seasons and then when appealed, said "yeah you're right, half of that is appropriate." We need to send a clear message that we won't be disrespectful, but we're not here to be walked over. If they give us a reasonable punishment, ok. If they try to escape goat us, we'll avail ourselves of appellate litigation options.
