That was interesting going back.
Ira Lee, fouling more and shooting worse than last season in less minutes. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... 28/ira-lee" target="_blank
For some reason I don't think Jeter thought he would finishing out his college career end of the bench.

Re: The 2019-2020 Season Thread
My guess on Jeter is that his injuries just greatly hampered his development. He does have some skill, but to be a solid pro, he'd have to get much stronger in his lower body and core. He's pretty thin and not very physically imposing. He'd get smashed into pieces on the low block by any halfway decent pro big man. Imagine him posting up against Andre Drummond or Rudy Gobert or freaking Embiid.

Well I guess we will know on Thursday. Scheer keeps repeating that the team fully expects him to play.

Don’t think we lose to UCLA if Green is playing.
Call me crazy, but they weren’t that impressive. Oregon is clearly the best team in the league.

depending on defining that at the moment not as much, before yes - not up to players to pick and choose when and if they want to if cleared.Dosia wrote:Is he still being a little B?97cats wrote:how bout the player not wanting to play?

Eek, that’s a poor prognosis for this team if true.97cats wrote:depending on defining that at the moment not as much, before yes - not up to players to pick and choose when and if they want to if cleared.Dosia wrote:Is he still being a little B?97cats wrote:how bout the player not wanting to play?
Re: The 2019-2020 Season Thread
So it sounds like the team is anticipating him being cleared with his lower back issue? I’m pretty sure I read Jason saying he didn’t have a concussion.97cats wrote:depending on defining that at the moment not as much, before yes - not up to players to pick and choose when and if they want to if cleared.Dosia wrote:Is he still being a little B?97cats wrote:how bout the player not wanting to play?

Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

I can envision a S-16 run without Jeter. Less so without Green.

Re: The 2019-2020 Season Thread
Not even close. That team had the best freshman guard in program history and two additional highly skilled and athletic guards/small forwards that were experienced juniors. This current team may have the same kind of record, but it is not even close with the '97 squad in terms of personnel and experience. Plus that team had Lute Olson, who at that point had been to 3 final fours as a head coach and won countless big games against major programs and other premier coaches.UAEebs86 wrote:azgreg wrote:It seems that when we think the team can go far they flame out early. I agree, I assumed it was sarcastic, I was just reiterating the point that there is no comparison to '97, something that others have brought up from time to time during this season.Alieberman wrote:I don't quite think Eebs was being serious!
That doesn't mean it is completely out of the realm of possibility that this team could go on a run, someone always does, but this squad hasn't had one marquee win against a great team (let along a good team). This roster does not look like the kind that make a deep run, nor is there a player on the roster that seems like he can carry the team. Additionally, the coach seems burnt out.

Beautiful 2nd half
Incredible off-ball defense and all of a sudden shots start dropping and Miller stops bursting vessels.
Murphy is a great assistant, he’s always talking up the players and hi-5’ing them, especially the frosh

I thought we would go 25-6 in the regular season so if we finish of UDub and go 21-10 that is a minus 4. I would look back at the three 1 point giveaways in conference and the loss to St Johns as the biggest disappointments.
If we can find a way to win two in Vegas I would be pretty happy and if we won the tourney I would be estatic

Apropos of nothing, I was re-watching highlights from that season. We all remember how it went down...5th place, swept at the Bay, needed a crazy comeback to not lose in the 1st round as a top 5 seed for the 4th time in 6 years (imagine if Miller did that?), barely beat upset minded CoC, lost a double digit lead late to KU and inexplicably did not foul LaFrentz allowing for a shot to tie that luckily missed, then we draw the winner of a 10/14 game of Providence vs Chattanooga. We draw 10 seed Providence. And they get us in OT before we win. And we all remember God Shammgod and how good he was, but I forgot how regulation ended...
Their best player, Austin Croshere, had fouled out with 9 minutes left, yet they went on a run to erase a big lead. Then, and shades of Max Hazzard earlier this year...
we have the ball with a 4.3 second differential between game and play clock, up 3. Miles gets down to about 6 feet and, instead of turning and dribbling the ball out to run clock, he decides to shoot. With 26 on the game clock and 22 on the shot clock. He is blocked...into a fast break, which turns to an early offense open 3 to tie. They hit that, we turn the ball over at mid court with 10 seconds left, and Shammgod has his signature 15 foot pull up for the win...and misses.
If that shot goes in, we would never, ever, ever forget Miles taking a shot up 3 with 22 seconds left on the shot clock and a 4 second differential. It was so stupid...a runner that got stuffed. Reminded me of Max deciding to drive into 3 defenders with time left and no shot clock in the 1st half vs ASU, except nowhere near as impactful. We remember Miles and "Simon Says Championship", but he was very nearly the biggest goat (not GOAT...just a goat) of all time. If Shammgod's pull up doesn't go front and back of rim and off, Miles would be a dirty word in Tucson.
March...it makes ZERO sense. Gotta love it.

Re: The 2019-2020 Season Thread
And that wasn't the only brain fart that year. Remember how many quick shots we took up double digits in the last 5 minutes vs Kansas. It's one thing to not overly slow down and take yourself out of rhythm, but it is another thing to force shots with 25 on the shot clock when you are up 12 and all the pressure is on "Roy's Greatest Team Ever".
Another shot we would remember forever if things went different in OT...Epps step in 3 to tie in the title game. We were one ridiculous shot from winning that game in regulation. Luckily, that team was too young and carefree to have that "we blew our chance" feeling...
