It's overdue to have this in it's own thread - we have lunch and dinner threads. Why not a place to recommend good breakfast joints? The robust discussion about breakfast in the "Venting Thread" is the motivation.

Never thought I'd say this, but good oatmeal is amazing. I discovered that traveling in Scotland. It's all in the groats (the whole oats).

A local Amish farm where I live sells fantastic whole groats with just the hull removed for $1.25 a pound. I mill them myself, both as Scottish "pinhead oats" and Irish "steel-cut oats." Sets me back about 10 cents a bowl. They distinctly smell and taste of apples and cinnamon, which made me realize why Quaker Oats flavors their flavorless oats that way. The really expensive steel-cut oats you buy don't compare even remotely.

Obviously it's great for your health, but you also do your part to save the land by helping to introduce a third grain crop into the rotation.

I rarely eat breakfast or anything before noon. Sometimes on the weekends I'll get a breakfast burrito with chorizo or make myself some scrambled eggs or biscuits but on weekdays I never eat breakfast.
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.

i'll just go with fuck asu.

Never got into oats myself but this is the stuff like love to see.

Daily single serving of chobani yogurt with khorasian wheat granola from Costco, with some blueberries or raspberries thrown in is a action packed; weight loss fueling start to the day.

Turns out the top selling breakfast cereal in America is Honey Nut Cheerios.

All because of pure marketing genius to take advantage of all the really stupid people in America (and there are a lot of really stupid people in America).

It has the second highest sugar content of any breakfast cereal, second only to Fruity Pebbles. More than Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Frosted Flakes, you name it.

They combine that blast of sugar with a tiny serving size so you misread the sugar content, call it "Cheerios", and put it in a boring brown box that people don't associate with sugary cereals, and write the word "OATS" across the front.

Raisin Bran is really good. And like Hater says, it’s a decent dessert.

In Turkey, all the American cereals are eaten solely for dessert. Breakfast consists of things like sheeps milk cheese, olives, cucumbers, and spicy lamb soup.

Who's dissin' Raisin Bran? I ate it every day for breakfast since I was 6 (1963) until I joined the USAF (1976) where I ate made to order hot meals for breakfast like omelettes, then as a poor starving college student upon discharge ate raisin bran from 1981 until I got married in 1985.

And even though Raisin Bran was the sweetest cereal on the market I still added extra sugar.

I are more raisin bran than any man ever seen. ya ya ya ya

Still have clean bowels though, just a couple of small polyps over the years.

Now in my twilight years I have a couple hard boiled eggs, and a banana and a glass of juice each weekday morning. Cutting down on the carbs.

Weekends are different, full breakfasts.

Maybe that's why I added sugar to it. I loiked the chewiness and flavor of the raisins, nice change of pace of plain flakes.

Did you know Fruit Loops cereals are all have different colors but all tasted the sam?.

Think I still have an old Bobby Sherman 45 they stuck on a box of cereal, back when they used to give stuff out.

Actually played OK on those old portable record players with the huge needles.

Yeah, with the raisins covered with the sugar layer, they have an amazingly chewy, soft texture. The whole experience of eating a bowl of raisin bran is like what eating a slice of plum pudding in hard sauce wants to be.

Don't eat cereal very often anymore, but I ate a ton of Raisin Bran over the years. Don't particularly like raisins, but yeah they were coated in sugar and gave a chewy texture contrast. I added heaps of refined white sugar too.

Also ate a ton of Grape Nuts. Heaps of sugar added. Like eating a bowl of sweet gravel. Hearty and filling. Wheat Chex and Life were regulars in the rotation that I liked too.

Nowadays my favorite is a hard-toasted everything bagel with various cream cheese flavors. If there's some breakfast meat to add, all the better.

Best burrito - Taqueria El Pueblito or Tanias 33

Diner - Gus Balons or Egg Connection

Had a really good brunch at La Botana. They dont have the brunch menu inside for some reason but its on their website: https://www.labotanatacos.com/our-menus#menu=brunch" target="_blank

Gorditas Bonitas - Two handmade corn gorditas with pinto beans, chicharrones, roasted tomatillo salsa, over easy eggs, cilantro, avocado slice, poblano crema and queso fresco. Everything was so fresh and the chicharrones stuck to your teeth haha! Obviously added two 32oz tamarindo margs for $18 which are gooood.

GrapeNuts with honey flavored yoghurt almost everyday. No added sugar, just the little bit of honey they flavor the yoghurt with.

Once in a while, for variety, I'll switch to Shredded Wheat. I make French Toast about once a month so I can get my maple syrup fix.

She Who Must Be Obeyed insists on going out to breakfast so she can have porridge or meusli prepared for her. She usually has porridge at home anyway.

Wife made breakfast this morning from whatever odds and ends we had floating around and it was one of the best things I've had in a long time. She made a breakfast pizza with a little old mozzarella, pepperoni, Italian cherry peppers, good pecorino, grape tomatoes and a soft cooked egg in the middle. On homemade crust of course. It mind-blowingly good.

It's hard to believe we don't have a Condensed Milk Thread, but I'll resist starting one and try the discussion here.

Is condensed milk the greatest thing ever, or what? I can't believe it every time I fall into the American ignorance of putting regular milk in my coffee or tea instead of condensed milk. Everyone else in the world knows this.

Plus, it makes dulce de leche right in the can!

Somebody remind me to get back on the condensed milk train and never get off.

Yes! And speaking of which, I'm very interested in Hong Kong milk tea (made with condensed milk, of course) and Hong Kong style french toast. You spread coconut jam on the white bread before dipping it in the egg and frying it oil in the pan. I don't know what coconut jam is but I thought I'd try making it with French chestnut preserves.

You noticed I called it a roach coach and not a food truck? I've eaten from both. This one is a roach coach. However, their breakfast burritos are pretty decent. that's the direction I should have taken.

I grabbed a Carne Adovada burrito (includes egg and hashbrowns) with green chile at Blake's Lotaburger in Santa Fe this morning on the way down to Tucson.

They make a damn tasty breakfast burrito.

Stopped in Hatch to pick up some green chile there as well.

Their breakfast burritos are really good. Their burgers are bad, but their new chicken sandwich is really solid. Get an order of their onion rings on the side. They're awesome.
