Tomato sandwich with just mayo, salt and pepper on toasted 9 grain bread. Ridiculously satisfying for being so simple. Kale salad and a tangerine. Semillon.

I missed this. That looks tasty! I can probably caramelize onions. And by caramelize, I mean lightly burn.

Same here haha. There's only a few times I've "cheated" on her cooking and that was because coworkers were getting something unhealthy for lunch and I didn't have willpower to say no. Couldn't watch them eat some pound of meat Italian sub while I had my healthy (and delicious) coconut lentil curry.Chicat wrote:

Re: Dinner Tonight
My wife is a dirty cook. Any way she can find to slip into the process any hand-wash-only implement, she'll do so, and not clean as she goes. Any relatively simple dish ends up with towers of dirty dishes and utensils. If that's my job to clean it all, I can't enjoy the meal knowing what lies ahead.
And back before we had a kid: Right in the middle of eating, she'd decide to haul me off to bed and pounce me. I can't get up and wash dishes after that. Waking up to the kitchen like that is terrible. And I'd lay in bed all night half hungry and fully unhappy.
So instituted a rule: The cook cleans the kitchen.
And then she decided she hates cooking. So now I'm the only kitchen cleaner and dish washer in the family forever and ever.

No you ain't, you have a kid. Once they're old enough that's what the kid is for, doing dishes. Once they're old enough to know how to do them you aren't washing a dish ever again.Longhorned wrote:My wife is a dirty cook. Re: Dinner Tonight
Kids break stuff. Then they go through puberty and get REAL clumsy.
In my house, the cook doesn’t have to clean. But I always help cook (chopping veggies, boiling water, fixing sides, etc) AND I clean as I go. My wife does not. She likes a mountain of utensils and pans and bowls to tell the tale of another dinner vanquished (much how like after sweeping or mopping she will leave out the broom/mop as a visible monument to her effort).
When I cook alone it’s usually a pretty simple clean up task and yet I pitch in there too. Essentially I try every day to convince her I’m worth keeping around.

My wife's answer to the universal question of "Where do things go?" is:Chicat wrote:My wife ... likes a mountain of utensils and pans and bowls to tell the tale of another dinner vanquished (much how like after sweeping or mopping she will leave out the broom/mop as a visible monument to her effort).
"Wherever I left it last, and whatever condition I left it in."
When I decided to stop tidying up after her, it got to the point where it got hard to walk over and around all the crap left everywhere. Didn't bother her one bit.
She doesn't even mind sitting down to dinner with a pile of mail on the table, with all the envelopes screaming "Hey! Which one of us did you forget to pay???"

Re: Dinner Tonight
Quick story. We bought a shit load of crap from Menard's to finish our basement (for anyone who didn't see me mention this store in another thread, it's like a Midwest Lowe's or Home Depot), and they do a periodic 11% rebate. You have to take your receipt and fill out a rebate form and then send it in and then after 6 to 400 weeks they send you a voucher for the rebate amount that can only be used in store. Pretty pain in the ass process.Longhorned wrote:My wife's answer to the universal question of "Where do things go?" is:Chicat wrote:My wife ... likes a mountain of utensils and pans and bowls to tell the tale of another dinner vanquished (much how like after sweeping or mopping she will leave out the broom/mop as a visible monument to her effort).

She doesn't even mind sitting down to dinner with a pile of mail on the table, with all the envelopes screaming "Hey! Which one of us did you forget to pay???"
So we bought a bunch of stuff. Like $3K worth. Then when I went to do the rebate, the receipt was missing. We looked everywhere for it. Finally my wife found it in her purse. Why was it in her purse? Because she didn't want it lying around and figured it would be best to put it "away" than to have it be out where it would be a constant reminder "HEY! SEND ME IN!!!"
But by the time she found it, the rebate period had ended. So I went into the store, had them refund everything and then repurchase it all again so that I had a receipt with a current date so I could send in the rebate. This was last Saturday. Today I went to process the rebate and guess what? No receipt...
It's literally no where to be found.
I remember where I put it, but it's not there.
It's literally not anywhere.
I'm searching frantically. Nearly in tears because my life seems to be falling apart at the seams and I'm about to lose a $300+ credit at a home improvement store that we will most definitely need so that we can finish this damn basement.
My wife ends up finding it! Hallelujah!!! Where was it??
In her motherfucking purse.........

Ah the old mind read...reminds me of the other side of the coin, and one of my favorite old Seinfeld jokes about women always wanting to know what men are thinking:
I bet women would like to know what men are really thinking

But I have found that because women are complicated
They like to think men are complicated too
You ever hear a group of women talkin' to each other
"Ooh, I wish I knew what he was really thinkin'"
Ladies, I will tell you what we're really thinkin'
We're really thinkin', "I'd like a beer and I'd like to see
Somethin' naked", that's all we're thinkin'
You go to a nursing home and see a ninety year old man
Goin' down the hall on a walker, that's what he's thinkin'
"I'd like a beer and well, I'd like to see somethin' naked"
