Well Football makes so much money I wouldn't be surprised if that's what we got then, as dumb as this whole idea of playing is. I wouldn't be surprised if Robbins is pressured out of his stance of no sports, as I can't imagine he'd want to lose out on the money the school desperately needs.
“The reality is that the hardest games to win are over teams on their home court. Teams that don’t play those games can spin it however they want, but what they’re saying is, ‘We don’t want to lose in our non conference season.’" - Sean Miller

The SEC is really just saying they expect to have students on campus and play football at the start of the season but things can change based on new information. I don't really see how that is a bad approach even though it might be optimistic. Football fall camps start at the end of July/beginning of August so that is still a few months away. It seems like we will learn a lot about the new trajectory of the virus by June. At that time, the schools will still have time to decide on a firm course of action.

On a side note, does it really matter if the PAC doesn't play football this season? The conference is completely irrelevant on the national stage.

Fair point. The conference is basically the old WAC now. Almost entirely irrelevant in basketball and football.

The trajectory of the virus will be that there won't be a vaccine or effective treatment for it and that it will still be running rampant in a few months since everything is reopening now...
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.

i'll just go with fuck asu.

Exactly this. Plan to play for now and adjust if needed. Planning to play does not mean you dont care about people or the virus. In fact It means you are being reasonable smart and not giving into fear porn.

See this. This is before football potentially is not played. More is coming even if football is played and without football this will be way bigger way more often ag all schools

Yeah, I was wondering how the reopening will change the numbers. Will it immediately spike or not (I mean my state is open but not really open)? If hospitals are not projected to be overwhelmed, would we "close" again, etc.

Question: With Robbins saying classes will resume in August (in person, not remote) with testing of all students, faculty and staff, would that imply that the football season would go on?

The question I have is if 30-50% of people are still avoiding mass gatherings in August, September, October.... AND the economic situation is that we are still at double digit unemployment and in a prolonged recession where disposable income is scarce, will having football even be viable for a lot of schools?

Yes, it’s a money-maker, but it’s also really expensive to produce. Could the Arizona university system sustain the losses that might come along with stadiums with only 10,000 people attending?

Boy, wouldn’t it be nice if the PAC-12 Network was paying back to schools at a level that other conference networks are. Might help schools like ours weather the storm.

The UofA president changes his mind on what is going to happen on a weekly basis if even that. Smart is not the word I would use...

I think we were already on track to test that 10,000 attendance number. While ticket sales help, doesn't most of the money come from TV contracts? Meaning, if we play we still get the TV money. If not, we get nothing? Would also be interesting if say the schools in Arizona, Utah and Colorado play but the others in the conference don't what the TV money looks like with equal revenue sharing.

With the team we are about to field next year isn't 10,000 attendance going to be pretty close to average?

Arizona fans have been social distancing in Arizona Stadium for years. Fauci should be proud and use our fans and stadium as a model for the rest of the country.

I will be shocked if college sports is played, in any form, in the next 6-9 months. I hope for the best, but I'll be shocked.

I at one time would have said you are nuts or on drugs but now, even without the virus, I think you are right. Just to much money in college sports and it’s direction is not inline with the mission of academic institutions

Needs to go the way I have said for a while. Remove any piece of"amateurism" from the system. Let football and basketball be minor leagues that license the university logos and facilities. They're independent orgs that pay the university for their stuff. So you can still cheer for a team with your school's logo on it but there's no academic requirements or farce of amateurism.

Then, why bother with universities at all?

Oh yeah, state-funded facilities....

NCAA president said today that schools must have "open" campuses for them to participate in sports this fall. This currently rules out Oregon and California schools from participating in sports.

If this is the case I love the idea of a one year merger of the remaining PAC-12 schools and remaining Mountain West schools

Considering the fact that football literally pays for every damn sport on every single one of those campuses, I can't imagine there's a world where football is not played for schools in those states, regardless whatever Emmert is saying in May.

Wholeheartedly disagree. Those states aren't Alabama and actually care about their citizens.

Last I heard the Oregon schools will be open business as usual but at least for Oregon the first three games won't be posted in front of fans.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if football was given special consideration, almost expect it. Kind of like all of those "essential" non-essential businesses that remained open. Also, you might want to focus on the state you currently live in before talking about others.

FWIW guys, people in Oregon are really not pleased with how the governor is handling things. If she kills college football this fall, she will completely destroy any chance she has at re-election. Oregon is no Alabama, but the people will lose it if football is taken.
