16-17 class
Thoughts? Who are we pushing for? I was just looking at 247sports and it seems like we may dip a lot from the 15-16 class. Am I wrong in thinking this?

Derryck Thornton Jr.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Re: 16-17 class
Considering the three 5-star commits Arizona currently has came about in a 1-to-7 month span, not sure why people are worried about a class with 2+ years to figure out.
Might only be a 3-person class.
Get Thornton/Cage/wing, and Arizona won't skip a beat.

Re: 16-17 class
Thornton, Cage, Vance Jackson. Or swing for a an absolute homerun with Josh Jackson or Jayson Tatum.
17 is unknown. Battle Kansas for Troy Brown, then look at a guy who is up and coming like Jalen Hill.

Heck most years are unknown even a year before. Ray Smith, Justin Simon, and Allonzo Trier weren't even mentioned as Arizona recruits a year ago and now all 3 are Arizona bound and are 5 star recruits. The Goat wrote:Thornton, Cage, Vance Jackson. Who is the 5-star, 2016 power forward making an unofficial visit to Arizona today?
Re: 16-17 class
Looks like it's T.J. Leaf visiting today.

Didn't 97 say we backed off of Thornton? I think it was him. I know someone said it. Hope I'm wrong, but really what PT could Miller offer?EVCat wrote:Yup.Chicat wrote:Derryck Thornton Jr.

Re: 16-17 class
We kept recruiting him, but his need was less apparent with so many guards coming in this year and next. But now we're apparently ramped back up to the full-court press on Thornton.thenewazcats wrote:Didn't 97 say we backed off of Thornton? I think it was him. I know someone said it. Re: 16-17 class
I saw on a few recruiting boards that TJ Leaf is planning on committing soon, or is a heavy Arizona lean. Hard for me to put much weight on where a recruit stands if its not from 97. Anyone heard anything?
Re: 16-17 class
Are we serious with this guy? Dude is a beast. Looks like Dwill 2.0
Re: 16-17 class
TJ Leaf announcing tomorrow 1230 Tucson time.
Re: 16-17 class
Might as well change that percentage to 100 because we're adding our first piece of 2016 tomorrow! So pumped for the next TJ, kid is so skilled. 6'9" with ball handling skills, great passing ability, post moves!?! Kid has it all
Re: 16-17 class
Would love to see him build up his body. Rounds needs to start working with this guy now!
Where will he announce his decision?

Although I guess technically he hasn't ended up at Arizona just yet.

Ryan had a great college career. Set a record for TDs, Heisman Award finalist, took Wazzu to the Rose Bowl, so yes, I would settle for that.

016 5-star Power Forward TJ Leaf Commits To Arizona
Never doubt Sean Miller. It’s been reported that 2016 5-star power forward TJ Leaf has verbally committed to The University of Arizona. With offers from Florida, Duke, Michigan and UCLA, the 6-9 junior out of Foothills Christian (El Cajon, California) has put an end to his recruiting process. Leaf was originally scheduled to announce on Friday, but ultimately decided today was the day to announce.
Sean Miller has been all about TJ Leaf since this summer, pursuing him enough to commit a year early. With Leaf’s commitment, Sean Miller will have brought in 12 5-star prospects in six recruiting classes. Leaf is currently rated as the #2 recruit out of California, Sean Miller’s favorite state to recruit. And it shows, as he’s been able to land the #1 California prospect of every class since 2011. The #1 recruit out of California, Lonzo Ball, has already committed to UCLA, but there’s no doubt that TJ Leaf will be able to claim the top rank of California over the course of the next year. Because after all, Sean Miller knows best.
At 6-9, Leaf is one of those rare do-it-all forwards that is the complete package. Range, handles, passing, athleticism, Leaf has it all. It’s hard to define his game, as he has elements from former Wildcats including Grant Jerrett and Aaron Gordon. The mix of Grant Jerrett shows in his range and Aaron Gordon in his athleticism and ability to dribble at 6-9.
He’s even seen swatting current Arizona Wildcat, Stanley Johnson, at :43 in his sophomore mixtape below.
As far as the 2015 recruiting class, Sean Miller still holds the #1 recruiting class. For now, we await the decision of 5-star center Stephen Zimmerman and 5-star power forward Ivan Rabb, who will both commit later in the spring. It’s a toss up, but Arizona is expected to land one or the other to round out the 2015 class. It’s still too early to tell what lies ahead in 2016 for Sean Miller, but it’s great to know that TJ Leaf will be the cornerstone of the class. As the #14 recruit in the country, you can bet he’s going to draw the attention of other top recruits that will want to play alongside him in the newly renovated McKale Center.

I don't think I've seen a recruit sum up why Arizona will always be the team to beat out west better than this. One of the things that is really appealing is they sell out every game, which most schools on the west coast don’t,” Leaf said. “They out work a lot of people. When they see a guy they want, they outwork guys to get them. They recruit California so hard.

Re: 16-17 class
Gosh, wonder if some of our prospects watching TV Sunday night noticed our crowd vs UCLA? UCLA pulled 5,398 fans from of the second largest US city(largest if you count LA metro) early on a Sunday night with no competition. Oh, the Lakers were playing? Thanks, got it. Oh, UCLA was playing non-conference? Thanks again----clears it all up.AZCatGirl wrote:http://scouthoops.scout.com/story/14825 ... ign=buffer
