Not sure how 20 minutes can be considered a slow start, maybe 8 minutes max.

20 minutes is some pretty frickin' awful basketball all around.

Zona will always be in danger of losing when the game slows down. Unless of course you have consistent perimeter shooting, which Arizona does not have. UC- Irvine is a perfect example of when its a half court game but have the shooters. The better the competition gets the more important that is.

I have not watched the reply but what I can remember from the start is that we missed a ton of wide open shots. I don't remember being irritated over one bad shot in the first half. All of our 3 point attempts were unchallenged, we just couldn't put the ball in the net.

The Gardener-Webb game was at least the 5th time this season that UA failed to cover for the first 10 minutes and yet covered the spread by the final buzzer. This trend of starting slow is of course a bit concerning, but damn if it hasn't made me a lot of coin this year. Bet on UA opponent for the first 10, then bet UA to beat the spread for the entire game. It pains me to take the other team for the 1st half bets, but as long as UA covers (and by extension, wins of course) I'll be a happy bettor, er, camper.

Either way, it's York's fault.

We had two spurts: 15-2 to start, and 18-6 when we fell behind, 40-38. Other than that, we were in quicksand.

UCLA just had the mother of all slow starts.

The real question is, why did Romar go away from the zone? Those two, couple minute spurts where they switched to man was the difference in the game

Yeah...we never picked it apart, or even shot them out of it or started grabbing O boards and getting put backs.

I would say Romar was the worst coach in the league, but Ernie Kent is back, so he has to be a clear #1. But then I see that WSU roster is 4-5 in conference, and I think "Maybe I need to revise my rankings?"

New theory: Honoring the process includes honoring a team nap that begins 45 minutes before warm-ups.

Two thoughts on slow starts and the tourney:

1. I think they misjudged the ND game. We were fine in the first half and played how we wanted. It was the run they had in the second half that made things look closer.

2. "Slow starts" in the tourney bother me less. A lower seed frequently comes out with guns blazing. The higher seeds generally are because they have more depth of talent. We beat both St. Mary's and ND by absorbing their best shot, not panicking and wearing them down.

RELAX Miller has spend 8 years figuring out ways to beat zone defenses! Its as easy as 123

1. Shoot the ball as soon as you're open, no matter if its always from 24 feet.
2. Send PJC on kamikaze runs straight into the middle of the defense
3. Show them our recruiting Final Four banners until they say uncle
