I'll take it. Would have rather faced Shaka.
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Deep run setting up here. Tough but you will simply put tough Abilene Christian to get to the 16. Who knows from there

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
UCLAs route looks good to get to at least the elite 8. An Alabama/UCLA matchup would be interesting with their contrast of styles.
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Good Luck to the Bruins in the elite eight game tonight. I want two PAC teams in the final four.

I too want two PAC teams in the final four but I want neither of them to be UCLA.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
You know the only time I root for any other PAC school is when Arizona is out of the tourney. Then I want all of them to win. Next to ASU I dislike UCLA the most. But glad they are representing the PAC in the final four. The women's has 2 PAC (1st and 2nd place). The men's one.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Can’t ever root for UCLA. Heresy, I know . . . but I dislike UCLA far more than ASU. And here we are with another ugly UCLA basketball team in a Final Four again. Yuck.

Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Probably will get blown out by the Zags but I'll still be living and dying through the game.

Depressing that they get yet another final 4 and in my 19 years of fandom I haven't seen one.

I hate to say it but this thread title might need to change.
Got to give Cronin and the Bruins credit. They had to win 5 games, not 4, to get to the Final Four. And Juzang is playing lights out. Had nearly half their points last night.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
How much money is the Pac-12 going to get by UCLA getting into the FF?

Bennett never really considered it
Dixon couldn't get his buyout reduced
Barnes wavered but decided to stay
Cronin the Final Fourian waited it out.

Thank god UCLA didn't hire Barnes...

You should have started a few years earlier when Lute was at his peak. Unless Arizona can bring in another elite coach and not just a great recruiter you will never see a final 4.scumdevils86 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 10:37 pm Depressing that they get yet another final 4 and in my 19 years of fandom I haven't seen one.

Should see most, if not all, the team come back. Riley probably the biggest threat of leaving

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Hats off to a great season. Had we not self-banned, UCLA’s run would have been the exact same as I would have wished for the Cats.
Next season’s Pac-12 race should be fairly significant nationally with UCLA being the presumptive favorite. Can we get multiple top-15 squads to show the nation that the best college basketball is played on the west coast?

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
He could very well go. He's had a great postseason and I wouldn't blame him for leaving. There were going to be a lot of 6'6 wings on the team next year with Chris Smith, JJ, JJJ, Jules, Peyton Watson, Jaylen Clark.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
I believe the article says he's projected to be a lottery pick this year. Way NBA drafts nowadays, that means he could go lotto this year as they draft on potential. Good for the kid if he goes pro. He's always seemed like a good kid and he took a big risk transferring out there but it paid off. I hate UCLA but it's hard for me to dislike Juzang. Seems like a good kidUAEebs86 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 9:13 pm Juzang is a lottery pick. He gone.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
I would be surprised if he's risen as far as an lottery pick, but he could be a late first round hype, but I'd imagine feedback will tell him another year will help. But that doesnt mean he'll listen to it

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
I can't imagine his stock will be higher than right now
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
His draft stock improvement based on his tournament performance reminds me of RJs in 2001.
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Most updated draft boards don't have Juzang as a first round pick, much less a lottery one. Seems like he went from being unranked to mid to late second round
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Miles Johnson the Big ten defensive player of the year was just accepted into UCLA's graduate engineering program. Would be a nice replacement for Hill
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Johnson is waiting for Stanford.
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
If he gets in Stanford that is where he is going.
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Cool. He also is applying to Cal too.
Options are good. Not sure what your point is though.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Just trying to keep perspective. If he thought UCLA was best as soon as he was accepted he would have committed. UCLA is a good backstop school for him.
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
I'm sorry you are struggling with perspective. There isn't a rush for him to commit right now, but I'm glad you were able to have this session to lay out your thoughts. But take a look at the title of this thread. Nobody really cares about perspective.

Remember when we were all making fun of UCLA for hiring Cronin?
Good times....

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
You're giving sainthood to a guy (Cronin) that loss his last 4 pac games before getting hot. Not sure that shows his prowess. He came in the conference below where the media picked UCLA but there is no denying they had a great run after being way under seated. Teams get hot and if the matchups and tourney plays out well and you can go along way. I seem to remember a coach that lost his last two games in the PAC that did okay.
It is good to see the smug Mr. Bug back.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Am I missing like a dozen other posts that can give me some context on Thecat's bizarre rambling here?
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
No you are just slow.....we are happy to see the old Bug back. We all appreciate the Bruin's run because the conference will benefit financially. I personally was very happy that the conference was going to receive a lot of money from USC, Oregon, Colorado, Oregon State and of course UCLA. I just think it is odd for a team that just did worse than anyone predicted in conference to be claiming invincibility. If you think that is unfair go back and read the Bruin Report after those four losses.
It is always nice to have the arrogant Bug back. It reminds me why I hated UCLA so much.
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Ah, so we finally get some "context" about these bizarre and random posts. I was supposed to be able to read your mind and know that you were reading BRO and getting riled up. Hence that makes me arrogant and smug about a single post about Myles Johnson getting accepted into a graduate program at UCLA. Clearly I was the slow one in this exchange, we can all see that now.TheCat wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 11:17 pmNo you are just slow.....we are happy to see the old Bug back. Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Even though the last thing I want to think about now is UCLA basketball but I forgot to mention I watched Cronin's post game presser after the Gonzaga game. I haven’t listened to him much in the past but he’s sort of a prickly ass.
It wasn’t like the reporter questions were the usual “why did you do this” type of questions which usually sets coaches off. They were more around what a great game it was and how well his team played but his responses were sort of combative which I found surprising. Then he slipped in the charge call, which he wasn’t sure was the right call, making it feel like he thought his team got slighted.
I get it was a few minutes after a very tough loss but he didn’t show much class imo in a situation that everyone agrees was as good of a basketball game that you will ever see.

I wasn’t really trying to “bait” you Bug. It was just an observation on a UCLA thread.
Did I miss the memo that anything mentioned here requires a response from you? UADevil - was this part of the new site changes?
I’m confused.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
He's actually been really good in pressers, especially this years. It's been refreshing to have a coach take the blame for losses, as opposed to the previous guy, who blamed execution and his players for the losses.
I'd imagine some issues in this particular press conference was probably born in part by his perception that there were some pretty tough calls to swallow in a highly emotional game. Mentioning that one particular play seems odd, considering he has a legitimate complaint. To classify the whole thing as resembling a lack of class is curious, is all. I figured it was done to get a rise, but perhaps you don't watch many press conferences. Either way, I apologize if I misinterpreted your comments.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
No worries Bug. I said I haven’t seen too many of his pressers so maybe this was an aberration. And maybe “lack of class” was a bit too strong. Maybe more like highly agitated in a strange sort of way. I think there certainly were a few questionable calls but that didn’t take away from what an amazing back and forth game it was.
Listen, all credit goes to Cronin and the Bruins for an amazing tournament run especially from a playin starting point.

Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
Yeah we all have Alzheimer's and don't remember your 5 years of comments on this board. Exactly what makes you think at this time that anyone gives a shit about Myles Johnson's second choice? So your intention was to point out the academic progress of Mr. Johnson? Really we all care about him being accepted to UCLA's graduate school.MrBug708 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 7:52 amAh, so we finally get some "context" about these bizarre and random posts. BRO doesn't rile me up. It is like most fan sights. Ignorant on what they say about any other team especially their rival, over critical at times of their own team, and others that overlook their own teams faults. No real different then here. What you don't see on BRO is any Wildcat saying how they were in line for a maybe recruit. I guess that is what makes you so special. You are arrogant and smug but something tells me you might have heard that before.
Re: UCLA Basketball in trouble!
WOW I guess you missed the pressers where he constantly brings up injuries and the fact he had a recruit decide he would rather get $300k then listen to him. He will also constantly remind folks how young his team is and how he changed a shooter from Kentucky into a player. Really? Sean once refer to a guy in his old conference that always said his team was deficient to take credit when they weren't as bad as he portrait. Wonder who he was referring too??? Glad to see the dismissive comments "classify the whole thing as resembling a lack of class is curious" and at the end "perhaps you don't watch many press conferences". Interpretation you don't know what the F you are talking about. The ole arrogant and smug Bug is BACK. Glad to see ya.MrBug708 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 9:15 am He's actually been really good in pressers, especially this years.
