Maybe he is tapping Barnes to take his place. Can you imagine the men's team with that much intensity? Haven't seen so much since the Jason Gardner years.

What in the everloving heck is going on? First scheer says he's getting extended, then who in the hell is this TOS?
Why are they saying this "smoke" will be bad for miller?
I will be so disappointed if this goes down poorly, especially after Bill Selfish gets a revolving contract.
There is no way we get a better coach than miller if they can him like this at this time.
Just my thoughts, probably not worth the internet space I'm using up to store my drivel.

Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

TOS is "The Other Site". Usually refers to the old site run by Jim Storey, but in this case it means Scheer's Wildcat Authority site.
Re: Sean Miller
There are about 3..maybe 4 posters at TOS that are worth listening to. If people search there for info, based on posts lol. If you want good analysis/comments/humor...there’s 3 dudes posting that.
The rest of it is and not worth any amount of $$.

I will be so pissed if that ends up happening. Say goodbye to our core from this year. Only way they stay is if JET takes over and even then it's not a guarantee. This administration is trash. If you were going to do it, we should've done it weeks ago so we can get first dibs on coaches. My buddy says he wants Porter Moser. That's interesting but not sure he's ready

Re: Sean Miller
Not worried. The brain thrust has been in San Antonio. The only way this is true is that they had an agreement with a final four coach and could not announce it till now. People want to be important so they make shit up. Let me give you a perfect example. Hansen's kid Ben reported that Lute Olson was in the mid west closing on a big time recruit. That was strange because I live in California and had dinner with Lute and Rodney Tension (sp) that night. I take what most of these guys say with a grain of salt because the only way they get paid or feel important is to act like they have knowledge we don't.
No offense to Choo because I have no idea what his connections are.

Sorry. Not buying it. Not until Choo chimes in.
I didn't ask
They shouldn't have told me
At first I'd laugh, but now
It's sinking in fast
Whatever they've sold me
Well baby, I don't want to take advice from fools
I'll just figure everything is cool
Until I hear it from Choo
It gets hard
The memory's faded
Who gets what they say
It's likely they're just jealous and jaded
Well maybe I don't want to take advice from fools
I'll just figure everything is cool
Until I hear it from Choo
Until I hear it from Choo
I can't let it get me off
Or break up my train of thought
As far as I know, nothing's wrong
Until I hear it from Choo
Still thinking about not living without it
Outside looking in
'Til we're talking about it, not stepping around it
Maybe
I don't want to take advice from fools
I'll just figure everything is cool
Until I hear it from Choo (hear it from Choo)
Until I hear it from Choo (hear it from Choo)
Until I hear it from Choo (hear it from Choo)
Until I hear it from Choo, oh
Until I hear it from Choo. oh no
Until I hear it from Choo (won't take advice from fools)
Ooh (I'll figure everything is cool)
Until I hear it from Choo (won't take advice from fools)
Oh (I'll figure everything is cool)

Re: Sean Miller
So, I'm not expecting any Miller extension news because the women's team is returning home.
Will Robbins now turn to softball and baseball and not wanting to steal their spotlight as for a reason not extending Miller?
Get on with it!!

Re: Sean Miller
No doubt. Don't forget the Spring Game towards the end of the month! Could be the first football win in a long time, very exciting!
The longer this goes on the more likely it seems that Miller is either gone or left to coach without an extension IMO.

I expect they'll announce the extension within the next two weeks, and that it will be approved at the June BOR meeting. If it's anything other than that, Sean should resign and take a different job. I'm serious.

Re: Sean Miller
Would you walk away from $2.5M and try to find another job? It seems to me that we will be in the position next year that either Sean Miller will have another down year and we will move on from him or he will find the magic again and he will move on from us. If he succeeds and he will be a hot coach with no buyout, he fails and Robbins will get what he appears to want and we will be able to replace him with no buyout. Either way, it appears that we will be in the market for a coach next year. Hopefully some good options present themselves.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 2:08 pm I expect they'll announce the extension within the next two weeks, and that it will be approved at the June BOR meeting. Re: Sean Miller
Some heat needs to be put on Robbins publicly if there's no announcement of an extension. At this point, all he is doing is handicapping Miller for a much tougher season. The AD & President's job is to help their coaches in every way possible. If Robbins prefers to let Miller twist (and thus the program twist), a disappointing season is on more on Robbins and less on Miller. And Tucson media needs to ask some pointed questions at Heeke & Robbins. And if those guys won't do an interview and accept those questions -- then it's time for columnists, radio, etc... to state the obvious. At this point -- Heeke & Robbins are looking like amateurs in the college sports world while schools like Kansas, UNC, etc... and stepping up and doing whatever it takes for the good of their programs. Infuriating!!!!
Re: Sean Miller
You're adding momentum to a down year for Miller by hamstringing him this year regarding recruits and transfers. All for what? To avoid paying a single year buyout? You fire fast and hire slow. If Robbins is "done" with Miller, he needs to do it immediately. If not, then you extend Miller 2-3 years and see what transpires. If you decide next year that Miller isn't the one, then you fire him. It's extremely shortsighted to try and save a few dollars in the short run because you're damaging the program in the long run.gronk4heisman wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 2:13 pmWould you walk away from $2.5M and try to find another job? The next coach here will have to undergo a longer rebuild if you let Miller coach without an extension and then fire him.
Robbins has bought himself some time with the firing of Sumlin and hiring of Fisch. But let's not pretend it was a great hire just yet. It may prove to be -- in another 3-4 years. But you didn't need to be smart as a heart surgeon to realize that Sumlin needed to go immediately.
The successful coaches at Arizona -- the ones that have won (Miller, Candrea, Johnson, Barnes, Rubio) and are winning -- have no ties to Robbins & Heeke. They were successful before the current clown show started their meddling. Robbins & Heeke have been a disaster with the football program. They brought in Sumlin. Let's not praise them for fucking up a good situation, making it untenable and then getting busy trying to fix the disaster they created by hiring an NFL assistant desperate for his first head coaching gig.

Re: Sean Miller
I wouldn't walk away from it, but Sean may have other opportunities we don't know about. I know many here think he's "toxic," but given how long he's been around and how well he's done overall, he's also got plenty of good relationships with people at the college and pro levels. It's silly to act like Sean can't land on his feet somewhere else. He's not going to get another job as good as his current one, not right now at least. But Sean Miller remains a competitive candidate for plenty of other jobs.gronk4heisman wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 2:13 pmWould you walk away from $2.5M and try to find another job? What's most interesting to me is how Sean's AD and/or university president are undermining him. I've never seen anything like this.
Re: Sean Miller
I don't understand how Miller can be considered toxic and yet Bill Self was just awarded a lifetime contract and dozens of programs would gladly take him on despite possible NCAA punishment. Miller walking away from $2.5 million next season (or whatever he's owed) and taking on a new 5-year deal at less money per year makes perfect sense. He gets five years guaranteed money and job security. Maryland extended Mark Turgeon for goodness sake. Turgeon!!!! Nobody at Maryland likes him and now they're stuck with him.
How excited would Texas Tech be to get Sean Miller? Miller isn't going to get a show/cause penalty. He's not implicated in the NOA as having committed a violation. Big difference.

Yeah, that's pretty much where I'm at, zg. I think the people calling Miller toxic and somehow unhireable may be underestimating his appeal to other, less renowned programs. Texas Tech is actually a terrific job, as we saw during Beard's tenure there.zonagrad wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 2:32 pm I don't understand how Miller can be considered toxic and yet Bill Self was just awarded a lifetime contract and dozens of programs would gladly take him on despite possible NCAA punishment. Miller is one of the more successful Pac coaches of the last couple decades, even with all the recent crap. He's gonna be fine one way or another.

Re: Sean Miller
This may sound stupid, but what if Robbins/Heeke are of the mindset that delaying the extension will force CSM to walk away from the UofA and by doing so make him look like the bad guy for everything that has transpired over the past few years.
Re: Sean Miller
I cannot be the only person bothered by the fact that Robbins is out there shopping for an assistant coach to take the job of a coach he hasn’t fired yet, a coach who is still out there repping the university, recruiting, etc.
And, why would Tommy Lloyd (sounds too much like Tim Floyd), in the middle of an undefeated championship run, be talking to Robbins or his minions? And, why, again, do we pay Dave Heeke?
I so very badly wanted to see this team, these guys, play together next year. It felt like it was going to be special. If this is true, I may turn in my several decade fan card.

I am assuming this is just conjecture, because from the outside looking in this seems like a logical explanation for the Miller contract situation fiasco. Those looking in from the outside however do not know Bob Robbins and that this is just what a garbage President he is.ekat wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 3:34 pm I cannot be the only person bothered by the fact that Robbins is out there shopping for an assistant coach to take the job of a coach he hasn’t fired yet, a coach who is still out there repping the university, recruiting, etc.

I'm with you. All I care about was seeing this team Year 2. They showed me a lot this past season and they were very easy to root for. I would love to see what an off-season of development and chemistry would look like on the floor.ekat wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 3:34 pm I cannot be the only person bothered by the fact that Robbins is out there shopping for an assistant coach to take the job of a coach he hasn’t fired yet, a coach who is still out there repping the university, recruiting, etc.

Re: Sean Miller
Not buying this story for a minute. Lloyd appears to be heir apparent there and takes over program with very uncertain future?
Would think he'd take over in a couple years, or slightly more, and if not, go to a solid gig without the possible drama ahead.
