Also:In some obvious ways, Myles Turner and T.J. McConnell couldn’t be more different as basketball players. Turner is a 6-foot-11 center who does much of his finest work above the rim. McConnell is a 6-foot-1 point guard who plays a more earthbound brand of the game. Turner swats shots, while McConnell picks pockets. One is an ominous presence in the paint; the other, a self-described “pest” who roams the perimeter.
But in a challenging season for the Indiana Pacers, Turner and McConnell have come together to press, strip and thwart opponents, a two-man misery machine. In the process, they could become the first pair of teammates to lead the N.B.A. in blocks and steals since the 2000-1 season, when Theo Ratliff (blocks) and Allen Iverson (steals) of the Philadelphia 76ers did it.

Bulls were asking for a high first round pick for Lauri. No one took the bait.
He’ll get a nice deal in free agency.

I bet TJ is upset about this!
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

TJ would not be in the league if Sean had not reached out and got him invited to the combine.

Re: Former Cats in the NBA
I think I've told this story before but right after TJ graduated (before the draft) I was working a conference and Sean Miller was the special guest and he answered a bunch of audience questions... it was all very light hearted... until Sean was asked if he would welcome TJ onto the coaching staff.
Sean then got really serious and his answer was something like this "One day TJ will become an excellent coach if he chooses that path. But I want to be very clear..... that is a long way away. I don't know if TJ is going to get drafted, I'm not sure if he is going to sign with an NBA team right away... but I do know for a fact, TJ is going to have a long and productive playing career. And I would be shocked if that career doesn't include many productive years in the NBA"
I'll always remember that.... and he was spot on.

When TJ was sitting out the one year due to transfer rules, I recall Lute saying TJ was the best player on the team.

It was always clear how much Miller saw in TJ and vice versa. If there was ever a coach and player that clicked...Alieberman wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 11:03 amI think I've told this story before but right after TJ graduated (before the draft) I was working a conference and Sean Miller was the special guest and he answered a bunch of audience questions... it was all very light hearted... until Sean was asked if he would welcome TJ onto the coaching staff.

Not that he needed to overact, since he obviously benefits from the Michael Jordan rule.

I think he meant the dunk.
But we all know the NBA’s travel rule is about as subjective as ice skating scoring.

Oops, looking at the feet, not the player! Didn't see Nico shuffling his feet either.
But in all fairness to myself, have not seen an NBA game on TV since Luke Walton was a Laker player, so if Steph Curry walked by me on the street I wouldn't recognize him.

Not nico. The guy he passed to shuffled his feet when he landed then took another step. I used to get called for that all the time in 8th grade. Which is the last time I actually played, about eleventy million years ago.

I looked at again and the guy receiving the ball doesn't look like he travelled before taking a dribble then the dunk. It appeared to be a normal basketball move and one that is certainly not a travel in the NBA, nor College or even HS imo.RichardCranium wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 3:33 amNot nico. RC, I'm sure in 8th grade you would have had to travel to cover that distance to the hoop. And if you had dunked I'm sure the ref would have been in such awe he would have swallowed his whistle.

He receives the pass, takes one step WITH a dribble then lands on two feet and jumps all in one motion.RichardCranium wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 3:33 amNot nico. If they called that a dribble on you in 8th grade it was because your gym teacher didn’t particularly like you.

As The Athletic reported earlier this month, the Kings owe $11.5 million to Walton for the remainder of his contract and cannot defer any of those payments, so it’s possible that this decision was financially motivated instead of based on Walton’s performance
