No, it's a full on change. It would mean the first time a player transfers, they're immediately eligible at the new school.
This is different from this summer's blanket waiver for Covid. The blanket waiver was a one time Covid thing. This is going forward for all first time transfers.

I'm all for Lloyd's kid transferring to UA from GCU as a walk-on, but if he gets a schollie like RichRod's kid did I will lose my shit.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Unless it's a Pastner situation, where the UA may have several scholies open, so give it to him on a one year basis. He might already be an Arizona resident, and using his father's UA discount may not really need a scholie at that.

I do wonder why you'd want to go to college and every time you turn around there's your dad.

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
Doesn't family of university employees get free tuition? Is there a minimum employment length?
I know nothing about how UofA handles this but most of the colleges and universities in michigan that I am aware of, allow immediate family of faculty and staff to attend free.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

Don’t think it’s free, but it used to be family of faculty only paid 25 percent of instate tuition.
Either way, a great deal.

It's basically free... and it's why my kids are going to an Arizona State school (and why my wife needs to keep her job!)MountainCat wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 5:02 am Don’t think it’s free, but it used to be family of faculty only paid 25 percent of instate tuition.

One of my sisters in laws works at the UA in the key shop, and put her daughter through school very cheaply.

Better be "Arizona state school" and not "Arizona State school" Ari.
I had one go to NAU and one UofA. No Sparky or mustard/ketchup colors allowed in the house.

Not sure if ASU being #1 in STDs is a good marketing tool or not for the horny young generation.
Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
STD's or not, pics like that are a good marketing tool though! There was a time in my life where I would've rolled the dice to be sandwiched between those 2.

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
Losing Akinjo would really, really suck. Is he even open to returning, or does this mean he’s gonzo?
Losing Mathurin will hurt more.
Losing both means our team will be a major work in progress next season (ie: not making the tourney).

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
There are so many good players in the portal, I am not worried. Recruiting is so much different now. Teams can get much better just from the transfer portal.

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
Yea obviously we'd rather keep the good players we have but people forget that since anyone can transfer penalty free...we could get incoming guys as well.
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.
i'll just go with fuck asu.

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
Generally I’d like to keep the guys we have but as you say, a potential starting spot at a place like Arizona will get lots of looks.

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
I completely understand the culture has changed and that the transfer "market" is basically like college hoops free agency.
But Akinjo is good. Would prefer to keep him.

The problem is Lloyd is fighting the lack of time. Many of the top transfers are off the board. Lloyd has an uphill battle in trying to make an impression on The remaining top transfers.

I don't even want to attempt to do a scholarship count at this point. We have a ton of minutes available at the guard spots. Not worried at all.

If the rumors are true that Robbins imposed the post season ban to make it easier to fire Miller... I’m guessing these players have heard these whispers as well.
Why the hell should they stay?

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
In addition to the self-imposed post-season ban, forgive me if this has already been discussed:
Robbins sealing the NCAA charges, which the university was ultimately forced to unseal. And when that happened, there was nothing new to see. The only conceivable purpose was to create the impression that there WAS something to hide, and then to create an additional negative news cycle after the unnecessary delay.
It's hard to suspect a motive other than justifying the tourney ban and undermining Miller and the program.
Like Alieberman said, players and their circles have these suspicions, too. And then they learn about the hire over Twitter. It's all a bit much, and entirely consistent with the patern of deception uncovered in the furlough rollout and the Ashford debacle - all of this during the same academic year.

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
There’s also been some rumblings that he didn’t want anyone to see that his personal actions and Heeke’s meddling were listed as two separate aggravating factors in one of the Level 1’s. Those two, in some ways, looked worse than Miller, who was fit with failure to monitor his staff. So, on top of the speculation making Miller look worse in the media, he was hiding his own actions.Longhorned wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 8:04 pm In addition to the self-imposed post-season ban, forgive me if this has already been discussed:

If I were those players, I would have a hard time putting on an Arizona jersey after the way they’ve been treated by Arizona.

I said what I said and I mean it.
Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
I mean...who cares? The roster can only be worse next season from where it was projected to be. Lloyd will need to prove it with his own guys regardless.

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
I tell you who cares. The players - especially the ones from foreign countries who venture all the way to Tucson and entrusted Miller and his staff to help them adjust to attending school and playing big time D1 basketball in a foreign country and guiding them to attain their goals. Then we have an administration that totally fucks them over and they are left holding the bag and figuring out what to do next. The whole thing just stinks.
Yeah, the Arizona program will be just fine moving forward and CTL will need to assemble his own team to coincide with how he wants to play. I get that. But I feel bad for the current players because it's not what they signed up for and this could have been avoided if we didn't have sneaky douchebags like Robbins and Heeke.
