We had back to back jacks in the 2nd. It all went downhill from there for the trees.

Nice win today. But you don't take the runs with you the next game. Have to show up again tomorrow and take the series.

Yeah I get that we can't take the runs with us. But I also get smacking your opponent in the face after a tough extra-inning loss doesn't hurt either.

Baseball blew a 1 run lead going into the 9th and are currently imploding in the 10th. We’re not going to win the conference by losing games to the last place team.

Blew a one run lead in the 9th and give up 16 runs to a team batting .233 on a Friday night. Maybe an anomaly but that is concerning given this could be an Omaha type team. That offense though, wow

Poor outing from both Silseth and Vannelle. Hopefully, just a bad night.
The one thing this team does exceptionally well is score with 2 outs. All 4 of those runs in the 10th came with 2 outs.
Crazy.

Amazing ending.

Arizona scored four runs in the bottom of the 10th inning, all with two out, rallying to beat last-place Washington 17-16 in a game it could not afford to lose. The Wildcats (33-13, 17-8) were actually down to their last strike, as sophomore Tyler Casagrande—a 9th-inning defensive replacement for No. 5 hitter Ryan Holgate in right field—roped an 0-2 pitch into left-center field for a 2-run single to make it 16-15.

They don't need to outslug teams to win. But it also says we don't know which team will show up on a given day too.
As they say you're only as good as your next day's starting pitching. I'm hoping Silseth's outing on Friday was an aberration because Irvin has stepped up big time as the Sat. starter. That's a nice 1-2 punch going into the post-season.

Pac-12 Standings & Remaining Schedule
Basically, we're in a pack of 5 or 6 horses coming around the turn and heading for the home stretch. We're in a pretty good spot, with the fewest remaining conference games on the schedule offering a chance to lose. Except that we have to go to Oregon St. We'll see how it plays out, recognizing that a conference trophy is nice, but post-season seeding is the main thing. I'm not sure how key RPI is, versus the other rankings. We're #7 there, by far the highest of any conference team. Meanwhile, there's a big disconnect between UCLA's #33 RPI, and being ranked #9 in the college baseball writers' poll. Looks like they've packed the court with LA writers and/or somebody's in the bag for the Bruins. Here are the standings by loss column, with the remaining schedule:
Oregon 16-7.....@ Utah (1)/Stanford/@ Cal
Stanford 13-7...@ Cal (1)/@ Oregon/OSU
Arizona 18-8....Wash (1)/@ OSU

Re: 2021 Season
Didn't see we "mercy ruled" NMSU yesterday.
Big series against the Beavers starting tonight to determine Pac 12 conference champion plus important CWS seeding/hosting.
To win the conference it will be all about percentage points since each team will not be playing the same number of conference games. It basically comes down to 3 teams - Arizona, Oregon, and Stanford.
Oregon and Furd play head to head and it looks like Stanford would have to sweep the Ducks and we get swept for them to win the the conference so I think it's basically down to us vs. Oregon.
A) If both teams sweep, Ducks win the conference
B) If both teams take 2 out of 3, Ducks win the conference
C) If Arizona takes 2 out of 3 and Ducks lose 2 out of 3, Arizona wins the conference
D) If Arizona sweeps and Ducks win 2 out of 3, Arizona wins the conference
I think C is our more realistic scenario but still need help from the Trees.

Re: 2021 Season
Oregon still has to go to Cal next weekend and Stanford stills has to play Oregon St. That said, it will come down to percentage points w Stanford but Oregon will (should) play all 30 games. Oregon is up one on the loss column so we would need to at least tie them in that column to win PAC.EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 7:00 am Didn't see we "mercy ruled" NMSU yesterday.

Cal isn’t a bad team so the ducks have a tough road. Cal beat us once and won two of three from Furd. We win this series and I like our chances

Re: 2021 Season
Yep, because it's all about percentages and if we win 2 out of 3 we will be in good shape because it puts more pressure on Furd and Oregon.
I think if my calculations are correct (even though I screwed up the first time) if we win 2 out of 3 against the Beavs, Stanford would need to go 6 out of 6 in their remaining games, and the Ducks would need to go 5 out of 6 to win the conference and 4 out of 6 to tie us.
